Item type:Item, A robust transform image coder over noisy channel(1998) ;Su, CH ;Hang, HM ;Wei, CH ;電子工程學系及電子研究所Department of Electronics Engineering and Institute of ElectronicsIn this paper, we propose a robust quantizer design for image coding. Because the bits representing the reconstruction levels are transmitted directly to the channel, the proposed quantizer can be viewed as a compound of a quantizer, a VLC coder, and a channel coder. The conventional combined source/channel design produces a source coder designed for a channel with a specific channel noise. Our proposed quantizer is designed within a noise range. In comparison with the ordinary JPEG coder, simulation results show that our proposed scheme has a much more graceful distortion behavior within the designed noise range.Item type:Item, An empirical study of the Taiwan National Quality Award causal model(2003-10-01) ;Su, CT ;Li, SC ;Su, CH ;工業工程與管理學系Department of Industrial Engineering and ManagementIn this study, the Taiwan National Quality Award (TNQA) is discussed in terms of a modelling approach for the first time since it was founded in 1990. A survey instrument involving 105 questions extracted from the 2001 TNQA criteria serves to measure the content of the TNQA. A causal model is proposed to reveal the relationships among TNQA categories. Structural equation modelling (SEM) is used to analyse the model and estimate path coefficients among TNQA categories. The statistical results show that many of the hypothesized causal relationships in the TNQA model are statistically significant. From path coefficients, the category of Leadership has a strong influence on that of Information Management. Simultaneously, Information Management has impacts on other TNQA system categories. Information Management is confirmed as an internal driver of TNQA system categories. Both Leadership and Innovation and Strategic Management show direct influence on Business Results. Generally, several conclusions are made as follows. First, the assumption that the TNQA model is recursive is supported by statistical results. Secondly, the prior theory of this causal model that Leadership is a driver of the system, which creates results is confirmed. Thirdly, the final causal model also represents an excellent model of business performance, which can predict expected results through system paths. Other conclusions and findings are discussed in the study.Item type:Item, Combined quantizer and linear error control code design for noisy channels(1996) ;Su, CH ;Hang, HM ;電子工程學系及電子研究所Department of Electronics Engineering and Institute of ElectronicsItem type:Item, Global motion parameter extraction and deformable block motion estimation(1999-08-01) ;Su, CH ;Hang, HM ;Lin, DW ;電子工程學系及電子研究所Department of Electronics Engineering and Institute of ElectronicsA global motion parameter estimation method is proposed. The method can be used to segment an image sequence into regions of different moving objects. For any tao pixels belonging to the same moving object, their associated global motion components have a fixed relationship from the projection geometry of camera imaging. Therefore, by examining the measured motion vectors we are able to group pixels into objects and, at the same time, identify some global motion information. In the presence of camera zoom, the object shape is distorted and conventional translational motion estimation may not yield accurate motion modeling. A deformable block motion estimation scheme is thus proposed to estimate the local motion of an object in this situation. Some simulation results are reported. For an artificially generated sequence containing only zoom activity, we find that the maximum estimation error in the zoom factor is about 2.8%. Rather good moving object segmentation results are obtained using the proposed object local motion estimation method after zoom extraction. The deformable block motion compensation is also Seen to outperform conventional translational block motion compensation for video material containing zoom activity.Item type:Item, Identification of Atractylodes plants in Chinese herbs and formulations by random amplified polymorphic DNA(2001-06-01) ;Chen, KT ;Su, YC ;Lin, JG ;Hsin, LHSu, YPAIM: An efficient, precise, and sensitive method for identifying Atractylodes plants has been established and will contribute significantly to quality control and scientific analysis in Chinese traditional medicine. METHODS: Twenty primers were applied for setting up the RAPD (randomly amplified polymorphic DNA) markers of Atractylodes plants, Atractylodes lancea DC (A lancea MG:), Atractylodes japonica Koidz (A japonica K), and Atractylodes ovata DC (A ovata DC). The primer OPF03, OPF05, and OPF14 could discriminate them successfully. The results were also able to apply on the Chinese formulations with Atractylodes purchased from local markets. RESULTS: RAPD was used to investigate phylogenetic relationships among and within closely related species. RAPD analysis reflects heritable changes in the nucleotides sequence in both the coding and noncoding regions, because it is conducted directly from the DNA level. This work first conducted RAPD analysis of Atractylodes plants to establish their RAPD makers. CONCLUSION: The RAPD markers could be applied extensively in the Chinese herbal formulations.Item type:Item, Implementation of a customer satisfaction program: a case study(2002) ;Chien, TK ;Su, CH ;Su, CT ;工業工程與管理學系Department of Industrial Engineering and ManagementFor an enterprise striving to implement total quality management (TQM), customer satisfaction (CS) is an important objective to achieve. The success of CS is not only closely related to a company's TQM performance but it also has permanent effects on the company's future. However, many corporations still fail to implement CS due to lack of experience, or not being able to keep up with the continuous implementation of CS. This study takes a look at one large Taiwanese multi-product manufacturing company with nine years of CS implementation experience. The implementation steps developed over nine years of CS implementation would be used as the foundation in building the CS implementation framework so that the possibility of actual performance failure would be minimized.
