Item type:Item, An efficient optimum design procedure for bicycle rear derailleurs(1996) ;Hou, YC ;Su, SH ;Tseng, CH ;Fong, ZH交大名義發表The rear derailleur on a multi-speed bicycle guides the running chain rapidly and precisely to a selected freewheel sprocket position without disengagement from the freewheel assembly. Therefore, the design of rear derailleurs is most important for designers. An efficient optimum design procedure for rear derailleurs is presented in this paper. Based on an established mathematical model, a series of optimum design sub-problems derived from the original optimum design problem are formulated and solved to meet all design requirements. The advantage of dividing the original design problem into several sub-problems is that it makes the upper/lower bounds of design variables in each sub-problem easier to determine. This reduces the trial-and-error efforts during iterative searching for optimum solutions. Thus, the design procedure becomes more rapid and efficient. It is worth emphasizing that the design procedure proposed herein is applicable to most known types of rear derailleurs.Item type:Item, Generating conjugate shapes using piecewise cubic spline functions(2000) ;Su, SH ;Tseng, CH ;機械工程學系Department of Mechanical EngineeringThis paper proposes a method called "piecewise generation" for generating conjugate shapes from sets of data points on original cutters using cubic spline functions to fit the points. The differences between conventional generation methods and piecewise generation are presented. The main advantage of this method is that the analytical form of the cutter need not be provided. Therefore, only sets of data points on the cutter either derived from analytical form or measured with coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) are necessary for the conjugate shape to be derived using this method. It provides a practical and useful tool for conjugate-pair design verification and reverse engineering applications. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science S.A. Both ''original generating curves'' and "generated curves" are distributed on each rotor profile, and all the geometric parameters of these curves can be determined with satisfying the conditions of continuity in tangency by given only several specific parameter values. The contact lines on rotor surfaces and the blowhole area calculation are also presented Three cases of optimization problems are shown in this paper and both contact-line length and blowhole area are reduced when letting the contact-line length be the object function with a constraint of blowhole area.
