The compact computer-generated-hologram system using a spatial light modulator was employed to offer the dynamic image, where the probe beam for the hologram reconstruction is a convergent wave, and the DC term of the diffraction wave can be blocked by a barrier. The wedge-shaped holographic waveguide element was used as the combiner of the HMD system to generate a compact structure. A wedge with a polished surface was designed for in-coupling the image into the waveguide, and a reflection-type holographic optical element (HOE) was used for out-coupling the image from the waveguide. The astigmatism aberration and deformation of the diffraction images at various distances are analyzed and then are compensated. Finally, the virtual image can be obtained without aberration with experimental verification. The light field can be predicted by the modified convolution formulation of Fresnel diffraction when the information of light passes through the astigmatism causing element. Then the astigmatism can be corrected. The theory was experimentally proved by the system with a phase-only SLM and a diffraction planar waveguide. Furthermore, the image quality of astigmatism corrected phase-type CGHs can be improved via the iteration process. Since the coherence of light source was employed, the temporal averaging method was utilized to avoid speckle noise. With high-stability polymer-dispersed-liquid-crystals (PDLC) being the holographic materials, holographic grating is utilized as a full-color beam splitter to split left and right field of views (FOVs) of a stereoscopic display. When CHBS is attached, the experimental results show that the correct left/right FOVs images could be successfully obtained at the preset observing distance of 25 cm. Moreover, the diffraction efficiency of the red, green and blue (RGB) left/right FOVs of the PDLC materials remained at 30.0% on average. Apparently, the brightness efficiency of the proposed CHBS stereo-displays is better than the traditional stereo-displays with a parallax barrier (22.4%). In addition, a crosstalk contrast with 95.0% indicates the crosstalk problem is almost avoided in the proposed technique.Item type:Item, Reduction of speckles and distortion in projection system by using a rotating diffuser(2012-11-01) ;Chen, Chien-Yue ;Su, Wei-Chia ;Lin, Ching-Huang ;Ke, Ming-DeDeng, Qing-LongA head up display (HUD) with laser backlight unit has two principle problems; one is laser speckles and the other is distortion. In this study, we propose that a rotating diffuser set at the intermediate image plane of the HUD projection system can simultaneously solve these problems. The conditions of speckle reduction and de-distortion are also estimated in this paper.Item type:Item, Security optical data storage in Fourier holograms(2012-03-20) ;Su, Wei-Chia ;Chen, Yu-Wen ;Chen, Yu-Jen ;Lin, Shiuan-HueiWang, Li-KarnWe have proposed and demonstrated a holographic security storage system that is implemented with a shift multiplexing technique. The security function of this storage system is achieved by using a micro-diffuser (MD) for random phase encoding of the reference beams. The apparatus of random phase encoding in this system offers an additional and flexible function during the recording processes. The system can generate holographic security memory or nonsecurity holographic memory via using the MD or not. The storage capacity and the average signal-to-noise value of the security storage system are 16 bits/mu m(2) and 3.5, respectively. Lateral shifting selectivity in this holographic security storage system is theoretically analyzed and experimentally investigated. The display system offers 2-D images via the traditional display technology and offers 3-D images via the computer-generated hologram (CGH) technology. In this system, 2-D and 3-D images are generated from the same amplitude-modulated spatial light modulator (SLM). In the 2-D display mode, the panel displays an amplitude-modulated image and the 2-D image is projected on a polarization-dependent diffuser (PD) screen. In the 3-D display mode, the SLM panel displays CGHs to generate 3-D images. The zero-order diffraction of the amplitude-type CGH will be blocked by a spatial filter (SF), which is designed by a polarizer. Furthermore, a liquid crystal element was employed to modulate the polarization state of the reconstructed light to let the 3-D image quality not to be reduced by the PD. Finally, the proposed system can offer 2-D and 3-D images both clearly. The system suppresses the zero-order diffraction noise of the amplitude-type CGH system successfully.
