Item type:Item, ANALYSIS OF CYCLIC FIXED-BED SORPTION PROCESSES FOR 2ND-ORDER IRREVERSIBLE KINETICS(1994-04-01) ;TAN, HKS ;交大名義發表 ;應用化學系 ;National Chiao Tung UniversityDepartment of Applied ChemistryAnalysis of a cyclic fixed bed sorption process based on second-order irreversible kinetics is undertaken. Cyclic steady-state solutions are obtained in closed form for both cocurrent and countercurrent regeneration. By converting two integral equations to two simultaneous differential equations, the solutions can also be evaluated numerically. In two special cases explicit analytic solutions are also derived. The performance of the cyclic process is evaluated based on sorption effectiveness and is shown to be dependent on four cyclic design parameters. Calculated results indicate that cyclic sorption effectiveness is independent of the direction of regeneration.Item type:Item, CONTINUOUS COCURRENT PROCESSES IN THE NONSTEADY STATE(1994-02-01) ;TAN, HKS ;交大名義發表 ;應用化學系 ;National Chiao Tung UniversityDepartment of Applied ChemistryItem type:Item, DETERMINATION OF THE NMR MONOMER SHIFT AND DIMERIZATION CONSTANT IN A SELF-ASSOCIATING SYSTEM BY DIRECT APPLICATION OF THE LEAST-SQUARES METHOD(1994-12-07) ;TAN, HKS ;交大名義發表 ;應用化學系 ;National Chiao Tung UniversityDepartment of Applied ChemistryThe monomer shift and dimerization constant of a self-associating system have been determined directly by applying the least-squares method to the NMR experimental data. Equations have been obtained in which two analytic methods can be applied. In the first method, a value of the dimerization constant is assumed and by linear regression the error sum of squares (ESS) is calculated. The minimum ESS is located by a five-point searching algorithm. In the second method, non-linear regression analysis of the model equation with the least-squares method results in a single equation of unknown K. A conventional root finding method is then applied from which the values of monomer shift and dimerization constant are determined. The numerical procedures proposed in this paper have been illustrated with an example using previously published experimental NMR data. Results of calculations are discussed.Item type:Item, GENERAL-SOLUTIONS OF 2ND-ORDER KINETICS FOR FIXED-BED SORPTION PROCESSES(1989) ;TAN, HKS ;交大名義發表 ;應用化學系 ;National Chiao Tung UniversityDepartment of Applied ChemistryItem type:Item, MULTICOMPONENT ION-EXCHANGE COLUMN DYNAMICS(1994-04-01) ;TAN, HKS ;SPINNER, IH ;應用化學系Department of Applied ChemistrySimple model equations which consider different rate control mechanisms are formulated for fixed bed multicomponent ion exchange processes. Efficient and accurate numerical methods are developed for solving these equations for liquid phase, solid phase or combined phase control. The algorithms are applicable to both ion exchange and liquid adsorption and are shown to be extendable to a general form of isotherms. The accuracy of the numerical algorithm is evidenced by the fact that the asymptotic limiting equilibrium solutions are closely approached as the dimensionless length parameter is increased, regardless of the rate control mechanism. Numerical examples for ion exchange applications are presented. These examples included multicomponent elution and purification problems. The effect of mass transfer resistance was also examined. Other examples examine the validity of a model reduction assumption and the comparison of equilibrium theory with the results obtained using the present finite mass transfer rate model.
