The moment-preserving technique can be thought of as an information transformation method which groups the pixels of an image into classes. The variables in the so-called moment-preserving equations are determined iteratively by a recurrent neural network and a connectionist neural network which work cooperatively. Both of the networks are designed in such a way that the sum of square errors between the moments of the input image and those of the output version is minimized. The proposed neural network system is applied to automatic threshold selection. The experimental results show that the system can threshold images successfully. The performance of the proposed method is also compared with those of four other histogram-based multilevel threshold selection methods. The simulation results show that the proposed technique is at least as good as the other methods.Item type:Item, A NEW APPROACH TO ROBOT LOCATION BY HOUSE CORNERS(1986) ;CHOU, HL ;TSAI, WH ;資訊工程學系Department of Computer ScienceItem type:Item, A NEW FAST ONE-PASS THINNING ALGORITHM AND ITS PARALLEL HARDWARE IMPLEMENTATION(1990-07-01) ;CHEN, CS ;TSAI, WH ;資訊科學與工程研究所Institute of Computer Science and EngineeringItem type:Item, A NEW ONE-PASS PARALLEL THINNING ALGORITHM FOR BINARY IMAGES(1992-10-01) ;WU, RY ;TSAI, WH ;資訊工程學系Department of Computer ScienceA new parallel thinning algorithm for binary images is proposed. This algorithm employs template matching to remove the edge points of an object shape in a binary image iteratively. Difficulty of terminating the thinning process without excessive erosion is solved without dividing an iteration into several passes. With a newly designed set of matching templates, the proposed algorithm obtains skeletons with the properties of perfectly 8-connected, noise-insensitive, and topologically equivalent to the original object shape without excessive erosion.Item type:Item, A NEW THINNING ALGORITHM FOR GRAY-SCALE IMAGES BY THE RELAXATION TECHNIQUE(1990) ;YU, SS ;TSAI, WH ;資訊工程學系Department of Computer ScienceItem type:Item, A SYSTEMATIC-APPROACH TO ANALYTIC DETERMINATION OF CAMERA PARAMETERS BY LINE FEATURES(1990) ;CHEN, SY ;TSAI, WH ;資訊工程學系Department of Computer ScienceItem type:Item, ADAPTIVE NAVIGATION OF AUTOMATED VEHICLES BY IMAGE-ANALYSIS TECHNIQUES(1986-09-01) ;TSAI, WH ;CHEN, YC ;資訊工程學系Department of Computer ScienceItem type:Item, ATTRIBUTED STRING MATCHING BY SPLIT-AND-MERGE FOR ONLINE CHINESE CHARACTER-RECOGNITION(1993-02-01) ;TSAY, YT ;TSAI, WH ;資訊工程學系Department of Computer ScienceConsecutive strokes of Chinese characters tend to be connected in fast writing, and this causes a problem for most stroke-based recognition approaches. In this correspondence, we propose a recognition scheme to recognize cursive Chinese characters under the constraint of correct stroke writing orders. The proposed recognition scheme consists of two phases: candidate character selection and detailed matching. In the former phase, an input script with N strokes is used to split the strokes of each reference character into N corresponding parts. In the latter phase, the connected input strokes are broken into multiple strokes under the guidance of candidate characters. In both phases, dynamic programming is employed for stroke or character matching. Good experimental results prove the feasibility of the proposed approach for cursive Chinese character recognition.Item type:Item, ATTRIBUTED STRING MATCHING WITH MERGING FOR SHAPE-RECOGNITION(1985) ;TSAI, WH ;YU, SS ;資訊工程學系Department of Computer ScienceItem type:Item, AUTOMATIC CHINESE SEAL IDENTIFICATION(1984) ;FAN, TJ ;TSAI, WH ;交大名義發表 ;資訊工程學系National Chiao Tung UniversityItem type:Item, AUTOMATIC ROTATIONAL SYMMETRY DETERMINATION FOR SHAPE-ANALYSIS(1987-01-01) ;LEOU, JJ ;TSAI, WH ;資訊工程學系 ;電子工程學系及電子研究所Department of Computer ScienceItem type:Item, AUTOMATIC ROTATIONAL SYMMETRY DETERMINATION FOR SHAPE-ANALYSIS(1987-01-01) ;LEOU, JJ ;TSAI, WH ;資訊工程學系 ;電控工程研究所Department of Computer ScienceItem type:Item, AUTONOMOUS LAND VEHICLE GUIDANCE FOR NAVIGATION IN BUILDINGS BY COMPUTER VISION, RADIO, AND PHOTOELECTRIC SENSING TECHNIQUES(1994-01-01) ;SU, YM ;TSAI, WH ;資訊工程學系Department of Computer ScienceAn integrated approach to vision-based autonomous an vehicle (ALV) guidance for automatic navigation and collision avoidance in building corridors and elevators is proposed. Computer vision techniques are utilized to locate an ALV in building corridors and to control it to enter elevators by the use of multiple corner points on walls. The location principle is based on matching input corner position information with a model using a distance-weighted correlation function. Furthermore, radio equipment is employed to control the elevator operations of lifting up, lifting down, door closing, and door opening so that the ALV can enter elevators automatically. Finally, a photoelectric sensor-based obstacle avoidance system for the ALV is developed. A real ALV was constructed as a testbed. Many successful navigation experiments confirm the effectiveness of the proposed approach.Item type:Item, CAMERA CALIBRATION BY VANISHING LINES FOR 3-D COMPUTER VISION(1991-04-01) ;WANG, LL ;TSAI, WH ;資訊科學與工程研究所Institute of Computer Science and EngineeringA new approach to camera calibration by vanishing lines is proposed. Calibrated parameters include the orientation, the position, and the focal length of a camera. A hexagon is employed as the calibration target to generate a vanishing line of the ground plane from its projected image. It is shown that the vanishing line includes useful geometric hints about the camera orientation parameters and the focal length, from which the orientation parameters can be solved easily and analytically. And the camera position parameters can be calibrated by the use of related geometric projective relationships. The simplicity of the target eliminates the complexity of the environment setup and simplifies the feature extraction in relevant image processing. The calibration formulas are also simple to compute. Experimental results show the feasibility of the proposed approach.Item type:Item, COLLISION AVOIDANCE BY A MODIFIED LEAST-MEAN-SQUARE-ERROR CLASSIFICATION SCHEME FOR INDOOR AUTONOMOUS LAND VEHICLE NAVIGATION(1991-10-01) ;WANG, LL ;TSAI, WH ;資訊工程學系Department of Computer ScienceIn this article, a new collision-avoidance scheme is proposed for autonomous land vehicle (ALV) navigation in indoor corridors. The goal is to conduct indoor collision-free navigation of a three-wheel ALV among static obstacles with no a priori position information as well as moving obstacles with unknown trajectories. Based on the predicted positions of obstacles, a local collision-free path is computed by the use of a modified version of the least-mean-square-error (LMSE) classifier in pattern recognition. Wall and obstacle boundaries are sampled as a set of 2D coordinates, which are then viewed as feature points. Different weights are assigned to different feature points according to the distances of the feature points to the ALV location to reflect the locality of path planning. The trajectory of each obstacle is predicted by a real-time LMSE estimation method. And the maneuvering board technique used for nautical navigation is employed to determine the speed of the ALV for each navigation cycle. Smooth collision-free paths found in the simulation results are presented to show the feasibility of the proposed approach.Item type:Item, COLOR IMAGE COMPRESSION BY MOMENT-PRESERVING AND BLOCK TRUNCATION CODING TECHNIQUES(1994) ;YANG, CK ;LIN, JC ;TSAI, WH ;資訊工程學系Department of Computer ScienceItem type:Item, COLOR IMAGE SHARPENING BY MOMENT-PRESERVING TECHNIQUE(1995-09-01) ;YANG, CK ;WU, TC ;LIN, JC ;TSAI, WH資訊工程學系A new approach to sharpening color images using the moment-preserving technique is proposed, An input image is processed pixel by pixel. By preserving some color moments of the n x n neighborhood of each pixel, analytic formulas are derived to compute two sets of (R, G, B) tristimulus values, and one of them is assigned to the pixel as the sharpening result. Cases with one or more uniform color components in the neighborhood are also treated. The proposed method preserves spatial details, and requires little memory and small computational load, The proposed sharpening operation can also be applied iteratively to the input image to get better sharpening effect. Experimental results show that the proposed approach is effective for color image sharpening.Item type:Item, DETECTING NUMBER OF FOLDS BY A SIMPLE MATHEMATICAL PROPERTY(1994-11-01) ;LIN, JC ;TSAI, WH ;CHEN, JA ;交大名義發表資訊工程學系Based on a simple mathematical property, a simple method is proposed for detecting the number of folds n contained in a given rotationally symmetric shape. Skills to overcome the difficulty caused by sampling and rounding errors are also discussed. Experimental results are included to show the feasibility of this new method. As for shape orientation, it is just a by-product of the proposed method because no extra computation load is needed to get the orientation.
