Item type:Item, A dynamic model of mutual inductance for the compensation of current control utilizing the optimum searching strategy for switched reluctance motor drives(2004) ;Huang, WN ;Teng, CC ;Fang, CH ;Chen, CH電控工程研究所A methodology to design the dynamic model taking the mutual inductance into account for the switched reluctance motor (SRM) drives is proposed in this paper. The overall consideration is focus on the current control compensation strategy that related to the practically existing unmodeled parameter, the mutual inductance, to improve the drives performance. A mutual inductance related expression is discussed and then an optimum searching method, chosen for ease-of-applying, is utilized for solving the key parameter owning on-line computational procedures potentials. By the presented model based on the motor characteristics analytical opinion, the relationship between the compensation current command and the neglected effect of the drives output can be established. The effectiveness of this model is demonstrated by the comparison with/without the dynamic model being involved.Item type:Item, A fuzzy neural network based extended Kalman filter(1996-03-01) ;Chao, CT ;Teng, CC ;交大名義發表 ;電控工程研究所National Chiao Tung UniversityIn this paper we construct a discrete extended Kalman filter by using fuzzy neural networks. The constructed filter makes it possible to estimate the states of a nonlinear dynamic system with unknown plant model. The unknown plant is identified by a fuzzy neural network that avoids the occurrence of divergence in state estimation. A computer simulation is presented to illustrate the performance and application of the proposed filter.Item type:Item, A PD-like self-tuning fuzzy controller without steady-state error(1997-04-16) ;Chao, CT ;Teng, CC ;電控工程研究所Institute of Electrical and Control EngineeringThis paper presents a PD-like self-tuning fuzzy controller (STFC) based on the tuning of scaling factors. A two-stage tuning method including a direct tuning stage and indirect tuning stage is proposed. For most linear controlled plants, application of the direct tuning stage alone is enough to yield satisfactory system responses. The proposed STFC can automatically detect the operating ranges of input variables and then adjust the scaling factors. In the indirect tuning stage the back-propagation algorithm can be directly applied to fine-tune the scaling factors when a more complicated plant is controlled. Furthermore, a simple but efficient method for fully compensating for steady-state error, which is the main problem in a PD-like fuzzy logic control system, is proposed so that tuning for fuzzy logic rule bases is unnecessary. Simulation results with linear time-invariant systems and a nonlinear unstable system as the controlled plants show that the proposed technique yields zero steady-state error responses very quickly without overshoot or oscillatory behavior. This concept is realized by programming the ratio of current command to phase voltage, and to utilize the time-dependent derivatives of equivalent magnetic inductance obtained from reluctance-related opinion. The algorithms and computational procedures are derived and completed taking equivalent magnetic inductance into consideration. A velocity controller is first designed for the kinematic steering system to make the tracking error approaching to zero asympotically. Then, a computed torque controller is designed such that the true mobile robot velocity converges to the desired velocity controller. In each step, the controllers are designed independently, and this will simplify the design of controllers. A novel stability analysis involving the estimation of some differential inequalities is also given to guarantee the stability of the closed-loop system. Moreover, the regulation problem and the tracking problem will be treated using the proposed controller. In particular, the mobile robots can globally follow any path such as a straight-line, a circle and the path approaching to the origin. Furthermore, the problems of back-into-garage parking and the parallel parking problem can also be solved using the proposed controller. Some interesting simulation results are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed tracking control law.Item type:Item, An efficient algorithm for finding the D-stability bound of discrete singularly perturbed systems with multiple time delays(1999-01-10) ;Hsiao, FH ;Pan, ST ;Teng, CC ;電控工程研究所Institute of Electrical and Control EngineeringIn this paper, we present an original work on the D-stabilization problem of discrete singularly perturbed systems with multiple time delays. A new robust D-stability criterion in terms of stability radius is first derived to guarantee that all poles of the discrete multiple time-delay systems remain inside the specific disk D(alpha, r) in the presence of parametric uncertainties. Then, by using the technique of time-scale separation, we derive the corresponding slow and fast subsystems of a discrete multiple time-delay singularly perturbed system. The state feedback controls for the D-stabilization of the slow and the fast subsystems are separately designed and a composite state feedback control for the original system is subsequently synthesized from these state feedback controls. Thereafter, we derive a frequency domain epsilon-dependent D-stability criterion for the original discrete multiple time-delay singularly perturbed system under the composite state feedback control. If any one of the conditions of this criterion is fulfilled, D-stability of the original closed-loop system is thus investigated by establishing that of its corresponding slow and fast closed-loop subsystems. Finally, an efficient algorithm is proposed to obtain a less conservative D-stability bound of the singular perturbation parameter and to reduce the computation time.Item type:Item, Calculation of PID controller parameters by using a fuzzy neural network(2003-07-01) ;Lee, CH ;Teng, CC ;電控工程研究所Institute of Electrical and Control EngineeringIn this paper, we use the fuzzy neural network (FNN) to develop a formula for designing the proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller. This PID controller satisfies the criteria of minimum integrated absolute error (IAE) and maximum of sensitivity (M-s). The FNN system is used to identify the relationship between plant model and controller parameters based, on IAE, and M-s. To derive the tuning rule, the dominant pole assignment method is a applied. to simplify our optimization processes. Therefore, the FNN system is used to automatically tune the PID controller for different system parameters so that neither theoretical methods not numerical methods need be used. Moreover; the FNN-based formula can modify the controller to meet our specification when the system model changes. A simulation result for applying to the motor position control problem is given to demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach. An upper hound of the singular perturbation parameters is then derived such that the D-stability of the reduced systems implies that of the original systems, provided that the singular perturbation parameters are small enough to be within this bound. This fact enables us to investigate D-stability of the original systems by establishing that of their corresponding reduced systems.Item type:Item, Derivation of the Glover-Doyle algorithms for general H-infinity control problems(1996-04-01) ;Hong, JL ;Teng, CC ;電控工程研究所Institute of Electrical and Control EngineeringWe show that the Glover-Doyle algorithm can be formulated simply by using the (J,J')-lossless factorization method and chain scattering matrix description. This algorithm was first stated by Glover and Doyle in 1988. Because the corresponding diagonal block of the (J,J')lossless matrix in the general 4-block H-infinity control problem of the Glover-Doyle algorithm is not square, a new type of chain scattering matrix description is developed. With this description in hand, we obtain two types of state-space solution, which are similar to each other. Thus a similarity transformation between these solutions in the 4-block H-infinity control problem can also be obtained. The main idea of the solution is illustrated by means of block diagrams.Item type:Item, Design of sampled-data systems with large plant uncertainty using quantitative feedback theory(2001-03-01) ;Lin, TC ;Wang, CH ;Teng, CC ;Lee, TT電控工程研究所This paper proposes a new quantitative feedback theory (QFT) design framework for dealing, with sampled-data systems with large plant uncertainty. After the QFT-based design in the continuous-time domain is completed, the analogue controller can he transformed directly into a rational discrete-time transfer function via approximate Z transform with the sampling time as a free parameter. The sampling time can therefore be adjusted to make the uncertain sampled-data system robustly stable. In comparison with other approaches, our approach is much more systematic without the solvability problem and yet significant enough to guide the designer to realize the physical controller in which the plant transfer function has prescribed bounds on its parameters. Several examples are used to illustrate the proposed approach and excellent results are obtained.Item type:Item, Detection of coherent signals using weighted subspace smoothing(1996-02-01) ;Ma, CW ;Teng, CC ;交大名義發表 ;電控工程研究所National Chiao Tung UniversityA new approach to detecting the number of coherent signals incident upon a uniformly-spaced linear array is presented. The approach combines a modified spatial smoothing scheme and a modified MDL criterion. The modified spatial smoothing scheme, referred to as ''weighted subspace smoothing,'' is actually a generalization of the ''post-smoothing'' approach proposed by Krim and Proakis in 1994. It is shown that the noise eigenvalues obtained with weighted subspace smoothing are more accurate than those obtained with the original spatial smoothing. We thus attempt to improve detection performance using these more accurate eigenvalues. A novel modification of the minimum description length (MDL) criterion is proposed to accomplish this. Computer simulations are presented to study the performance improvement of this new approach.Item type:Item, Direct adaptive iterative learning control of nonlinear systems using an output-recurrent fuzzy neural network(2004-06-01) ;Wang, YC ;Chien, CJ ;Teng, CC ;電控工程研究所Institute of Electrical and Control EngineeringIn this paper, a direct adaptive iterative learning control (DAILC) based on a new output-recurrent fuzzy neural network (ORFNN) is presented for a class of repeatable nonlinear systems with unknown nonlinearities and variable initial resetting errors. In order to overcome the design difficulty due to initial state errors at the beginning of each iteration, a concept of time-varying boundary layer is employed to construct an error equation. The learning controller is then designed by using the given ORFNN to approximate an optimal equivalent controller. Some auxiliary control components are applied to eliminate approximation error and ensure learning convergence. Since the optimal ORFNN parameters for a best approximation are generally unavailable, an adaptive algorithm with projection mechanism is derived to update all the consequent, premise, and recurrent parameters during iteration processes. Only one network is required to design the ORFNN-based DAILC and the plant nonlinearities, especially the nonlinear input gain, are allowed to be totally unknown. Based on a Lyapunov-like analysis, we show that all adjustable parameters and internal signals remain bounded for all iterations. Furthermore, the norm of state tracking error vector will asymptotically converge to a tunable residual set as iteration goes to infinity. Finally, iterative learning control of two nonlinear systems, inverted pendulum system and Chua's chaotic circuit, are performed to verify the tracking performance of the proposed learning scheme.Item type:Item, Dynamic output feedback control of nonlinear singularly perturbed systems(1996-11-01) ;Pan, ST ;Hsiao, FH ;Teng, CC ;電控工程研究所Institute of Electrical and Control EngineeringIn this paper, the stabilization problem of two classes of nonlinear singularly perturbed systems via dynamic output feedback is investigated. First, we consider the nonlinear singularly perturbed systems in which the nonlinearities are continuously differentiable. The theoretical result demonstrates that, using the factorization approach, the dynamic output feedback controller designed for the reduced-order model of the linearized system is a stabilizing compensator for the original nonlinear singularly perturbed system, provided that epsilon is sufficiently small. Second, the nonlinear singularly perturbed systems in which the nonlinearities are not necessarily continuously differentiable but satisfy the global Lipschtz condition are examined. Combining the dynamic output feedback controller that stabilizes the reduced-order model of the linear part of the nonlinear singularly perturbed system with the quasi-stability result of Persidskii, a two-step compensating scheme is proposed to stabilize the original nonlinear singularly perturbed system under consideration fora sufficiently small epsilon. Five conversion models, including one energy-delivery state, two resonances, one energy-holding state, and one transition state etc., are explored and analyzed. Interestingly, the transition inductor is dominant only for the energy-transition period in the H-loop and the other four dynamics are mainly subject to the output inductor when the turns-ratio of the main transformer is greater than two. Design consideration for estimating the mentioned inductors is conducted and implemented by a 1-KW ZVS-PWM FB converter to assess the predicted dynamics.Item type:Item, Fuzzy neural network (FNN)-based model analysis techniques for enhancing the development evaluation for switched reluctance motor (SRM) drives(2004) ;Huang, WN ;Teng, CC ;Chen, CH ;電控工程研究所Institute of Electrical and Control Engineeringin this paper, an analytical methodology utilizing fuzzy neural network (FNN) that improves evaluation capabilities for switched reluctance motor (SRM) drives is presented. Firstly, a FNN is applied to establish the mapping relation among the driving current, rotor angle, and equivalent inductance by the information obtained from the SRM characteristics measurements. Then two FNNs, which own the competence to do partial derivative computation, are constructed herein to complete this FNN-based analysis model. The computation results under different speed commands and load conditions respectively verify the proposed analysis opinions.Item type:Item, Fuzzy neural network approach for 2-D direction finding in multipath environments(1999-04-01) ;Ma, CW ;Teng, CC ;電控工程研究所Institute of Electrical and Control EngineeringA fuzzy neural network (FNN) approach for estimating the two-dimensional (2-D) direction of a radiating source in coherent multipath environments via a 2-D passive sensor array is presented. Outputs of the array are preprocessed by a judiciously constructed reference-point preprocessing scheme to produce proper inputs for an FNN. The FNN then uses these preprocessed outputs to produce the estimate of the source direction. Since the preprocessed outputs preserve enough information about the source direction and the FNN maps the preprocessed outputs into the source direction with high accuracy, the FNN approach exhibits good estimation performance. By computer simulations, it is found that the FNN approach drastically outperforms the spatial smoothing 2-D MUSIC algorithm.Item type:Item, Global exponential stabilization for a class of nonlinear singularly perturbed systems(1996-11-01) ;Pan, ST ;Teng, CC ;電控工程研究所Institute of Electrical and Control EngineeringA globally exponentially (asymptotically) stabilizing composite feedback control is proposed in this paper for a general class of nonlinear multiple time-delay singularly perturbed systems in which the slow subsystem is exponentially stable in the absence of the fast states. The chosen design manifold under this composite feedback control becomes an exact integral manifold and the trajectories of the closed-loop systems are steered globally along the integral manifold to the origin exponentially, with some guaranteed convergence rate, for all sufficiently small singular perturbation parameter E.
