Item type:Item, An Intelligent Patent Summary System Deploying Natural Language Processing and Machining Learning(2018-01-01) ;Trappey, A. J. C. ;Trappey, C. V. ;Wang, J. W. -C. ;Wu, J. -L.管理科學系With the growing awareness of the fourth industrial revolution and its implication, there are increasing applications of artificial intelligence to secure the value of intellectual property (IP), to develop competitive products, and to license IP. Natural language processing based on artificial intelligence methods have not been sufficiently developed and there remain many obstacles for current researchers to interpret the meaning of large numbers of intellectual property documents. The means to explain the related intellectual property documents (e.g. products in a given domain) and summarize sets of remain a significant challenge. In this research, we develop an intelligent patent summarization system based on artificial intelligence approaches that include Recurrent Neural Network (RNN), Word Embedding, and Attention Mechanisms. The aim of this system is to automatically summarize technical documents in a specific patent domain and identify potential opportunities or liabilities for R & D engineers, lawyers, and managers. The AI-based experiment-based solution for summarization is used to capture the key technique keywords, popular technical terms, and new technical terms. The compression ratios and the retention ratios are used to evaluate the density and consistency of critical information for the proposed summarization system and to measure the quality of the summary system output.Item type:Item, Business and logistics hub integration to facilitate global supply chain linkage(2007-07-01) ;Trappey, C. V. ;Trappey, A. J. C. ;Lin, G. Y. P. ;Liu, C. S.Lee, W. T.With the development and integration of the global supply chain, manufacturing industries are rapidly adjusting their modes of operation within and between enterprises. Existing manufacturing processes are being improved to meet the requirements of lean and agile manufacturing, and suppliers are given additional responsibilities to provide parts and services dynamically. An enterprise must strategically re-engineer its operations model to face the rapid changes of the global market place. This paper identifies prevailing challenges and highlights a future vision of the global logistics management framework for the automotive industry. An integrated business and logistics hub (IBLH) model integrating information flows (via the business hub) and material flows (via the logistics hub) is presented. This research uses the case of a Taiwan automobile parts and assembly manufacturer to analyse the processes of the IBLH. The goals of the case are to shorten supply chain processes, reduce inventory costs, and ensure information transparency during material flow and product distribution. Finally, this research provides suggestions to depict the case company's current limitations and deficiencies, and presents a future plan for e-logistics services.Item type:Item, Developing silicon intellectual property E-trade mechanisms for system on chip design and integration(2007) ;Trappey, C. V. ;Trappey, A. J. C. ;Lin, F. T. L. ;管理科學系Department of Management ScienceThe integration of IC design and manufacturing (IDM) is a major trend in the modern management paradigm of the semiconductor supply chain. In order to shorten the time-to-market for complex system-on-chips (SoC), the trade and reuse of silicon intellectual properties (SIPs) for fast IC design becomes a critical success factor for semiconductor IDM. In this research, intelligent mobile agents and fuzzy evaluation models are built into a knowledge services and trade platform (KSTP). The mobile agent behaviour model is used for knowledge acquisition and negotiations between sites of SIP providers, buyers and intermediators. The agent- based KSTP considers time, cost and precision of acquiring SIP information needed for SoC design and fabrication. For trade partner matching, fuzzy evaluation models are developed to consistently suggest suitable partners for trades under di. erent circumstances. The ultimate goal of the research is to enable autonomous, dynamic and collaborative SIP exchanges and trades in the global value chain of semiconductor industry.Item type:Item, Mining the Customer's Voice and Patent Data for Strategic Product Quality Function Deployment(2017-01-01) ;Trappey, A. J. C. ;Trappey, C. V. ;Fan, C. Y. ;Lee, I. J. Y.管理科學系The goal of research and development for new product and service development is to satisfy customers. A company that satisfies customers with short life cycle products like smartphones that match or exceed expectations builds brand equity and a global competitive advantage. Companies are challenged with the task of identifying the market demand that evolves with technological innovations. Since many of the short product life cycle communications products are continuously changing, capturing and measuring the satisfaction of customers is increasingly difficult. One approach to accurately identify market demand and customer satisfaction with the functions of products is to listen to what is said among social networks. The Internet has empowered customers to express their opinions, attitudes, beliefs, and purchase intentions about products using community platforms, social media, customer blogs, and other networks. The words, expressed on these platforms, represent the voice of customers and provide collective and dynamic intelligence about the users' purchase intentions as well as experience using the products. Patent documents disclose the technological evolutions of a domain, and contribute to the features and characteristics of products that differentiate between brands and build customer expectations and loyalty. This research proposes a systematic methodology to combine collective intelligence using Internet web crawling and text mining to access the voice of customers. Patent information (retrieved from global patent search engines and analytic function mining of the patent content) provides critical information for planning strategic product repositioning and improvements that match the voice of customers and increase brand loyalty. The systematic extended QFD approach provides intelligent and dynamic demand-compliant strategies for developing new products and services.Item type:Item, National R&D Project Evaluation and Key Performance Indicator Reengineering(2018-01-01) ;Trappey, C. V. ;Trappey, A. J. C. ;Lin, B. H. -L ;Lin, S. C. -C.Chen, P. P. -JTaiwan industries are largely divided among Original Equipment Manufacturers ( OEM) and Original Design Manufacturers ( ODM). In order to improving economic development, Taiwan industries hope to shift their business models towards enhancing global brand equity, i.e., transforming their companies into Original Brand Manufacturers ( OBM). Increasing competitiveness and successfully pursuing sustainable businesses requires government funding agencies for industrial development to monitor the performances of companies, receiving government funding, with a set of carefully designed Key Performance Indicators ( KPIs). This research develops a set of improved KPIs for repositioning enterprises that enhance their competitiveness across the aspects of OEM, ODM and OBM. The research evaluates the validity of currently used industry performance indicators and measurement methods. Case companies from both manufacturing and service industries including precision machinery, chip design and manufacturing. The questionnaire results are analyzed and the suggestions are made to help enterprises improve their project performance and corporate transformation.Item type:Item, Omni-Channel Sales and Smart Logistic Service Framework - As-Is and To-Be Paradigms(2017-01-01) ;Trappey, A. J. C. ;Trappey, C. V. ;Wang, J. W-C. ;Lee, W. T.管理科學系E-commerce (EC) has fundamentally changed retail business models. Mobile devices (or m-commerce) and social networks drive retail innovations by better enabling data transfer and communications between EC participants (buyers, sellers, intermediaries). Many suppliers or intermediaries have invested in building virtual channels. Omni-channel sales integrate resources of different channels and provide consistent and satisfactory shopping experiences to potential customers. This research analyzes the retail industry's as-is omni-channel sales across social, legal, economic, policy, and technological (S.L.E.P.T) views. The research presents the to-be model of smart logistic services for omni-channel sales and distribution. The Internet-of-Things (IoT) enabled solutions supporting smart logistic services for omni-channel sales are the focus of the research. Finally, the as-is and to-be logistic process models are benchmarked with respect to their performance indices including operating costs, times, and required human resources.
