Item type:Item, An Investigation on 25Gb/s Ultra-Short Cavity Quantum Well Lasers Operated at Elevated Temperatures(2019-01-01) ;Tsai, Yi-Lin ;Chen, Bo-Hong ;Hsu, Shun-Chieh ;Shih, Hsiang-YunLu, Po-YenA Fabry-Perot quantum well laser with ultra-short cavity is designed and fabricated. The emission wavelength is at 1310nm band which is important for data center applications. The shortest cavity length is 25 mu m, and the laser has mW-class output with low threshold currents (4mA in average). At room temperature, an opened eye diagram with 28Gb/s transmission rate can be observed. Clear 25Gb/s eye patterns from 15 degrees C to 65 degrees C are also demonstrated.Item type:Item, High performance ultraviolet micro-LED arrays for fine-pitch micro displays(2019-01-01) ;Tsai, Yi-Lin ;Huang, Yu-Ming ;Yang, Shu-Mei ;Kuo, Wei-HungFang, Yen-HsiangHighly efficient ultraviolet micro LED arrays are demonstrated. Small devices (5 microns in size) suitable for high resolution (725 ppi) can be produced with low leakage current and good emission spectra stability. A 10 by 10 array is achieved with passive-matrix driving connection.Item type:Item, High Speed Directly Modulated Fabry-Perot Lasers With an Ultra-Short Cavity Length(2020-05-01) ;Tsai, Yi-Lin ;Wang, Shou-Wei ;Huang, Huang-Hsiung ;Shih, Hsiang-YunLu, Po-YenIn this study, Fabry-Perot quantum well lasers with shortened cavity designs (25 and 50 mu m) were fabricated. The devices had dry-etched and cleaved facets and exhibited an output power of up to 2.36 mW for a cavity length of 25 mu m; good spectral performance was achieved. Single-optical-mode operation with better than 25dB of side mode suppression ratio can be achieved for the fabricated devices with 25- and 50-mu m cavities. The short-cavity devices also exhibited highspeed modulation at elevated temperatures. Moreover, 25 Gb/s eye diagrams could be obtained at 65oC for the 25 mu m device and 55oC for the 50 mu m device. Due to their small area, ultra-shortcavity Fabry-Perot laser can be suitably used in next-generation light sources for optical communication.Item type:Item, Intelligent agent for real-world applications on robotic edutainment and humanized co-learning(2020-08-01) ;Lee, Chang-Shing ;Wang, Mei-Hui ;Tsai, Yi-Lin ;Ko, Li-WeiTsai, Bo-YuDynamic assessment with an intelligent agent can differentiate the capabilities and proficiency of students. It can therefore be advocated as an interactive approach to conduct assessments on students in learning systems. Facebook AI Research proposed ELF OpenGo, an open-source reimplementation of the AlphaZero algorithm. They also developed Darkforest, which displays the competence and skills of high-level amateur Go players. To enable these open-source AI bots to assist humans at different levels in learning Go, this paper proposes an intelligent agent for real-world applications in robotic edutainment and humanized co-learning. To achieve this, we successfully constructed an OpenGo Darkforest (OGD) cloud platform using these AI bots and further combined the brain computer interface with the OGD cloud platform to observe the relationship between the brainwaves and win rates of human Go players. The intelligent agent also converted human brainwaves into physiological indices and reflected these in the robot to express human feelings or emotions in real-time. For future educational applications, this paper also presents intelligent robot teachers learning together with students in Taiwan and Japan. More than 200 students have been co-learning with intelligent robot teachers in Tainan, Kaohsiung, Taipei, and Tokyo from 2018 to 2019. The learning performance and feedback from students and teachers has been extremely positive, especially from remedial students.Item type:Item, Overexpression of an Outer Membrane Protein Associated with Decreased Susceptibility to Carbapenems in Proteus mirabilis(2015-03-10) ;Tsai, Yi-Lin ;Wang, Min-Cheng ;Hsueh, Po-Ren ;Liu, Ming-CheHu, Rouh-MeiProteus mirabilis isolates commonly have decreased susceptibility to imipenem. Previously, we found P. mirabilis hfq mutant was more resistant to imipenem and an outer membrane protein (OMP) could be involved. Therefore, we investigated the role of this OMP in carbapenem susceptibility. By SDS-PAGE we found this OMP (named ImpR) was increased in hfq mutant and LC-MS/MS revealed it to be the homologue of Salmonella YbfM, which is a porin for chitobiose and subject to MicM (a small RNA) regulation. We demonstrated that ImpR overexpression resulted in increased carbapenem MICs in the laboratory strain and clinical isolates. Chitobiose induced expression of chb (a chitobiose utilization operon). Real-time RT-PCR and SDS-PAGE were performed to elucidate the relationship of hfq, impR, chb and MicM in P. mirabilis. We found MicM RNA was decreased in hfq mutant and chbBC-intergenic region (chbBC-IGR) overexpression strain (chbIGRov), while impR mRNA was increased in hfq mutant, micM mutant and chbIGRov strain. In addition, mutation of hfq or micM and overexpression of chbBC-IGR increased ImpR protein level. Accordingly, chitobiose made wild-type have higher levels of ImpR protein and are more resistant to carbapenems. Hfq- and MicM-complemented strains restored wild-type MICs. Mutation of both impR and hfq eliminated the increase in carbapenem MICs observed in hfq mutant and ImpR-complementation of hfq/impR double mutant resulted in MICs as hfq mutant, indicating that the ImpR-dependent decreased carbapenem susceptibility of hfq mutant. These indicate MicM was antisense to impR mRNA and was negatively-regulated by chbBC-IGR. Together, overexpression of ImpR contributed to the decreased carbapenem susceptibility in P. mirabilis.
