Item type:Item, A novel hob cutter design for the manufacture of spur-typed cutters(2009-01-19) ;Hsieh, Jen-Kuei ;Tseng, Huang-Chi ;Chang, Shinn-Liang ;機械工程學系Department of Mechanical EngineeringSpur-typed cutters with multiple cutting angles are important tools frequently used in the manufacture of many machine elements. Due to their complex geometry, the production of these cutters involves milling and several grinding processes. Such a complex manufacturing process, coupled with the need for expensive manufacturing tools, makes the cutters costly. Undercutting is a phenomenon that causes weakness at the root of a gear. Engineers use shifted gears modified tooth profiles or changes in the pressure an le to overcome,, p g undercutting in gears. However, in this paper, by utilizing the undercutting phenomenon, a novel design of straight-sided hob cutter with multiple pressure angles is proposed for the manufacture of spur-typed cutters. With the simultaneous application of multiple pressure angles, this tool design concept significantly simplifies the manufacturing process. The effects of cutting angles, the degree of undercutting, and the width of the top land of the cutter are studied. The concepts and results proposed in this paper are beneficial as design guidance for tool designers and manufacturers. (C) 2008 Elsevier B.V. The forming limits of clad metal sheets with different thickness combinations (e.g., A1050 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 mm/C1100 1.0 mm) are investigated via forming limits test (punch stretching tests). The true stress-strain curves of Al/Cu clad metal sheets are obtained through tensile tests. Using the experimental forming limit diagrams and the stress-strain curves, the fracture prediction of clad metal sheets are simulated by finite element analysis. Moreover, deep drawing tests are carried out to compare the experimental with the numerical results. These results can verify the accuracy of finite element model. Finally, significant differences in formability are found, and comparisons of the fracture prediction of clad metals with different initial thickness ratios are analyzed both numerically and experimentally.Item type:Item, Experimental and numerical analysis of titanium/aluminum clad metal sheets in sheet hydroforming(2011-04-01) ;Tseng, Huang-Chi ;Hung, Jung-Chung ;Hung, Chinghua ;Lee, Ming-Fu交大名義發表Clad metals are becoming increasingly emphasized in sheet metal applications. In this research, sheet hydroforming process (SHF) was adopted to improve the formability of Ti/Al clad metal sheets and SUS 304 metal sheets used in computer, communication, and consumer product housings. Both finite element simulation and experimental verification were carried out to investigate the deformation of blanks. Several significant process parameters, such as holding force, friction, counter pressure history, and blank dimensions, were discussed for improving the formability of the two metal sheets. In SHF simulation, a virtual film technique was proposed to realistically approach the hydraulic loading condition during SHF. Finally, the deformed shape and thickness distribution of parts manufactured with SHF were compared with the results of simulation. Good agreements were obtained.Item type:Item, INVESTIGATION ON SHEET HYDROFORMING PROCESS OF TITANIUM/ALUMINUM CLAD METAL HOUSING(2011) ;Tseng, Huang-Chi ;Wu, Zong-Chun ;Hung, Chinghua ;Lee, Ming-Hu機械工程學系In this research, the sheet hydroforming process (SHF) was adopted to form a Ti/Al clad metal housing with complex shape. Nowadays, SHF has been widely accepted for the production of components characterized by high surface quality, precise dimensional accuracy together with high drawing ratio. For investigating the formability of the Ti/Al clad metal housing through SHF, the concept of virtual film were developed with explicit finite element method. First, the simulation model was verified by comparing the deformation of the blank obtained from experiments. Through finite element simulations, several significant process parameters such as holding force, tooling geometry, blank dimensions, single-stage (with pre-bulging effect) and multi-stages SHF were analyzed for improving formability of the Ti / Al clad metal housing during SHF.
