Item type:Item, FishTalk: An IoT-Based Mini Aquarium System(2019-01-01) ;Lin, Yi-Bing ;Tseng, Hung-Chun ;資訊工程學系Department of Computer ScienceMany people feed the pet fish in the aquarium tanks that need to be properly set up and maintained, or the fish will be destined to an unpleasant and short life. Therefore, it is critical to monitor water conditions closely and improve the water quality for the mini aquarium tanks. Based on an IoT solution called IoTtalk, this paper proposes the FishTalk system that utilizes the aquarium sensors to drive the actuators in real time. We describe the relationship between the aquarium sensors and the actuators and give concrete examples about the threshold setting. Our solution allows the designer to quickly deploy intelligent control for various water conditions. As an example, we implement an intelligent fish feeding mechanism such that the fish is neither over nor under fed, and at the same time, the fish owner can enjoy watching fish feeding remotely. We have also developed the analytic model, simulation, and measurement experiments to investigate the effects of the IoT message delays and loss on water condition control.Item type:Item, LWA Rate Adaption by Enhanced Event-Triggered Reporting(2018-11-01) ;Tin, Yi-Bing ;Shih, Ying-Ju ;Tseng, Hung-Chun ;Chen, Ling Jyh資訊工程學系Unlicensed spectrum has been utilized to open up additional capacity to support long-term evolution (LTE) service. LTE and wireless local area network (WLAN) Aggregation (LWA) is a perfect solution that satisfies this need. In 2017, Taiwan has deployed the first commercial LWA service. The deployed LWA network reuses and is nicely merged with the existing individual LTE and WLAN networks. To provide appropriate WLAN transmission bandwidth, the user equipment periodically measures the WLAN quality and reports the results to the eNB (the LTE base station). The eNB then decides if the transmission rate should be adapted. We investigate the performance of periodical reporting and then propose the enhanced event-triggered reporting to improve the performance of WLAN transmission rate adaption. We suggest how to select appropriate frequency to minimize the network traffic of periodical reporting. We also show that enhanced event-triggered reporting outperforms periodical reporting. Our solution utilizes the standard 3GPP protocols and does not modify the mobile phone's software.Item type:Item, NB-IoTtalk: A Service Platform for Fast Development of NB-IoT Applications(2019-02-01) ;Lin, Yi-Bing ;Tseng, Hung-Chun ;Lin, Yun-Wei ;Chen, Ling-Jyh資訊工程學系Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) is considered as a promising wireless communications technology for Internet of Things (IoT) especially for the outdoor environment. Many outdoor IoT applications involve large numbers of homogeneous NB-IoT devices. It is tedious to specify and accommodate these devices during application development. To resolve this issue, this paper proposes a service platform for fast development of NB-IoT applications called NB-IoTtalk. This platform utilizes a tag mechanism to provide an easy-to-manipulate graphical user interface to accommodate a large number of NB-IoT devices in an application and transparently show them in a visual map. Our approach automatically creates and parses the device profile used to interpret the payload of an NB-IoT message. We then use a smart parking lot application as an example to investigate the event-triggered reporting of NB-IoT in terms of the time-to-live (TTL) report frequency and the outage detection accuracy. This paper provides the guidelines to set the TTL interval for event-triggered NB-IoT applications.Item type:Item, Performance of Splitting LTE-WLAN Aggregation(2019-10-01) ;Lin, Yi-Bing ;Tseng, Hung-Chun ;Wang, Li-Chang ;Chen, Ling-Jyh資訊工程學系LTE-WLAN aggregation (LWA) combines the radio resources of LTE and WLAN to take advantage of Wi-Fi's high availability and indoor coverage, which provides better usage of both WLAN and LTE. In LWA, a user data radio bearer (DRB) is split if its packets are delivered through both LTE and Wi-Fi. For a split DRB, it is important to determine the LTE-to-WLAN ratio (LWR) or the ratio of packets delivered by LTE over WLAN. Based on WLAN's Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI), we propose a simple LWR selection rule. Using this rule, we describe a user plane implementation for LWA, where the adaptive LWA routing procedure can be easily implemented in the Radio Resource Management (RRM) and the Packet Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP) layer at the LTE eNB. In our implementation, the maximum LWA throughput is 99.14 percent of the optimal cases, and the packet loss rates are less than 0.0042 percent.
