A vector oriented control structure using integer arithmetic has been developed for the voltage or current regulation of 3-phase PWM inverters. This vector control IC can he used for the voltage or current control of a 3-phase PWM inverter using a vector command with specified amplitude, frequency, and phase. It has four operation modes: voltage or current control in either stationary or synchronous reference frame. This vector control IC is designed as a co-processor for a general-purpose microcontroller used for sc motor control and 3-phase power supplies. This vector control IC is realized with a 10-bit data bus and employs about 40 thousands logic gates of a CPLD (FLEX 10K 100) from Altera eo. The sampling rate can be programmed up to 50 kHz. Simulation and experimental results are given to illustrate the performance of the designed vector control IC.Item type:Item, A novel current-injected sensorless control scheme for squirrel-cage induction motors(2002) ;Lin, SY ;Tzou, YY ;電控工程研究所Institute of Electrical and Control EngineeringThis paper presents a novel sensorless control scheme of squirrel-cage induction motors by using a PWM waveform injection technique for the estimation of rotor dependent stator leakage inductances. To increase the signal-to-noise ratio when operating in low-speed region, the magnitude of the injected signal is adaptively adjusted according to motor operating condition. Practical realization issues of the detection of the reflected signals and estimation of the rotor position have been addressed. The developed sensorless control scheme has been implemented by using a high-performance single-chip DSP controller. Experimental verification of the developed adaptive injection scheme and rotor position estimation scheme has been carried out. Experimental results show the proposed sensorless position control scheme can reach a position control resolution of 0.05 rad with a rated holding torque.Item type:Item, A three-phase PWM AC-DC converter with low switching frequency and high power factor using DSP-based repetitive control technique(1998) ;Jung, SL ;Huang, HS ;Tzou, YY ;電控工程研究所Institute of Electrical and Control EngineeringThis paper presents a novel digital control scheme for PWM AC-DC converters with low switching frequency used in high-power applications. The proposed scheme incorporates an inner current loop with an outer voltage loop to improve input power factor and regulate the output de-link voltage. The inner current loop consists of a predictive controller and a repetitive controller. The outer voltage loop is composed of a digital IPI controller and a load current compensator. A PWM AC-DC converter employing DSP control has been constructed to verify the proposed control scheme. A nearly unit input power factor can be achieved even with a low switching frequency. Experimental results confirm the feasibility and features of the proposed repetitive control scheme for unit power factor regulation.Item type:Item, A transputer-based adaptive speed controller for AC induction motor drives with load torque estimation(1997-03-01) ;Tsai, MF ;Tzou, YY ;交大名義發表 ;電控工程研究所National Chiao Tung UniversityIn this paper, we design and implement an adaptive speed controller that can estimate load torque for ac induction motor drives employing a transputer-based parallel processing technique, The adaptive speed controller, which precedes the held-oriented control loop, consists of a two-degree-of-freedom controller and a feedforward load-torque compensator, The two-degree-of-freedom controller is designed by a pole-placement technique with polynomial manipulations. Its parameters are adjusted adaptively in terms of estimated model parameters, Estimating the model parameters entails a second-order least-squares estimator with constant trace to avoid estimator windup. The design of the feedforward compensator is based on an estimated load-torque model, Estimating the load torque entails a first-order least-squares estimator with variable forgetting factor and covariance resetting, the purposes of which are to detect any slow or sudden changes of torque disturbance, respectively. The resulting adaptive controller is implemented in parallel by IMS T800-20 transputers, Experimental results demonstrate the robustness of the proposed control method in contending with varying load and torque disturbance.Item type:Item, A transputer-based parallel controller for motor control applications(1997-10-01) ;Tsai, MF ;Tzou, YY ;電控工程研究所Institute of Electrical and Control EngineeringThis paper presents the design and implementation of a parallel controller based on the transputers IMS T800-20 for high-performance motor control applications. A unified controller architecture comprising transputer-based parallel computing boards and input/output boards suitable for the real-time control of various types of motor drives is proposed. The system can increase its computing and input/output processing capability by paralleling these boards. A host server based on a personal computer for user interface is also developed. To demonstrate the system's capability, we have applied the system to the fully digital adaptive control of an AC induction servo motor. The control functions can be easily implemented in parallel by using the high-level programming language Occam. The comparison with two existing parallel controllers also shows the performance and architectural features of the system. The designed PWM inverter control IC has been realized using a single FPGA XC4005 from Xilinx, Inc., which can be used as a coprocessor with a general-purpose microprocessor in application of ac-voltage regulation. Owing to the high-speed nature of FPGA, the sampling frequency of the constructed IC can be raised up to the range that cannot be reached using a conventional digital controller based merely on microcontrollers or a digital signal processor (DSP), Experimental results show the designed PWM inverter control IC using the proposed control scheme can achieve good voltage regulation against large load variations.Item type:Item, Design and implementation of an FPGA-based control IC for the single-phase PWM inverter used in an UPS(1997) ;Jung, SL ;Chang, MY ;Jyang, JY ;Huang, HSYeh, LCThis paper presents an FPGA-based multiple-loop control scheme for the regulation of the PWM inverters used in UPS. The developed IC can generate accurate commutation signals for BLDCMs by using a modified back-EMF sensing scheme instead of using Hall-effect sensors. This IC can be also easily interfaced with a microcontroller or a digital signal processor (DSP) to complete the closed-loop control of a BLDCM. The developed sensorless; commutation IC consists of an analog back-EMF processing circuit and a programmable digital commutation control circuit. Since the commutation control is very critical for BLDCM control, the proposed sensorless commutation IC provides a phase compensation circuit to compensate phase error due to low-pass filtering, noise, and nonideal effects of back-EMFs. By using mixed-mode IC design methodology, this IC solution requires less analog compensation circuits compared to other commercially available motor control ICs. Therefore, high maintainability and flexibility can be both achieved. The proposed sensorless commutation IC is integrated in a standard 0.35-mum single-poly four-metal CMOS process, and the realization technique of this mixed-mode IC has been given. The proposed control scheme and developed realization techniques provide illustrative engineering procedures for the system-on-a-chip solution for advanced digital motor control. Simulation and experimental results have been carried out in verification of the proposed control scheme.Item type:Item, Digital control of a single-stage single-switch flyback PFC ac/dc converter with fast dynamic response(2001) ;Feng, YT ;Tsai, GL ;Tzou, YY ;電控工程研究所Institute of Electrical and Control EngineeringThis paper presents the DSP control of single-stage single-switch (S4) flyback ac-dc converter with fast output voltage regulation.
