Item type:Item, A low-cost, portable and easy-operated salivary urea sensor for point-of-care application(2019-05-01) ;Wang, Kuan-Hsun ;Hsieh, Ju-Chun ;Chen, Chang-Chiang ;Zan, Hsiao-WenMeng, Hsin-FeiSalivary urea was reported to be a useful biomarker to reflect the blood urea nitrogen in chronic kidney disease patients. However, as a new biomarker, enormous clinical trials are required to define the intended-use and to verify the specification. In this report, we demonstrated a low-cost easy-operated real-time sensing system (optical fiber-urea-sensing, OFUS, system) to detect salivary urea. We aim to make the system easily reproduced by the community to stimulate abundant clinical tests worldwide. The OFUS system is composed of a simple three-dimensional printed tank to link with two optical fibers, one connecting with a commercial light-emitting diode to deliver the input light signal, the other connecting with a commercial cadmium sulfide photo-conductive cell to detect the sensing signal. To allow on-site detection without any sample pretreatment, only 1 mu l saliva is needed to be mixed with 10 mu l urease solution and 90 mu l pH indicator solution in the reaction tank and the detection time is only 20 s. A stable and reproducible calibration curve can be easily built with a detection range as 24-300 mg/dL. The OFUS system successfully detected saliva with added synthetic urea and samples from chronic kidney disease patients. A good agreement between the OFUS system and the commercial kit was obtained. A good correlation between salivary urea and the blood urea nitrogen was also confirmed.Item type:Item, Accurate real-time sensing tip for aqueous NO with optical fibers embedded in active hydrogel waveguide(2018-02-01) ;Chung, Chieh-Wen ;Tsai, May-Jywan ;Lin, Peng-Wei ;Huang, Ding-WenWang, Kuan-HsunA NO sensing tip is made by inserting two parallel optical fibers inside a poly 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (PolyHEMA) hydrogel waveguide mixed with the probe molecule 1, 2-Diaminoanthraquinone (DAQ). There is a length difference of 1 mm between the two fibers, and the light has to propagate through the difference from the short fiber to the long fiber. The total cross section area of the active hydrogel waveguide embedded with the fibers is only 3mm x 1.2 mm. For practical use the tip is housed in a needle for mechanical protection and the sensing tip is able to detect aqueous NO concentration around 1 mu M with time resolution about 5 minutes. Such a sensing tip can be used to monitor the medical conditions inside the brain after a stroke or a brain injury. The directional DUV laser beam avoids the substrate heating and suppresses the diffraction effect. A IGZO precursor solution was also developed to fulfill the requirements for direct photopatterning and for achieving semi-conducting properties with thermal annealing at moderate temperature. The DUV-induced crosslinking of the starting material allows direct write of semi-conducting channels in thin-film transistors but also it improves the field-effect mobility and surface roughness. Material analysis has been carried out by XPS, FTIR, spectroscopic ellipsometry and AFM and the effect of DUV on the final material structure is discussed. The DUV irradiation step results in photolysis and a partial condensation of the inorganic network that freezes the sol-gel layer in a homogeneous distribution, lowering possibilities of thermally induced reorganization at the atomic scale. Laser irradiation allows high-resolution photopatterning and high-enough field-effect mobility, which enables the easy fabrication of oxide nanowires for applications in solar cell, display, flexible electronics, and biomedical sensors.Item type:Item, High-resolution proximity sensor using flexible semi-transparent organic photo detector(2017-10-01) ;Chen, Chao-Hsuan ;Lin, Ching-Fu ;Wang, Kuan-Hsun ;Liu, Hung-ChuanZan, Hsiao-WenWe propose a flexible proximity sensor to detect sub-centimeter distance with an ultra-high displacement resolution. The proximity sensor is realized by integrating a semi-transparent organic photo detector with a transparent top electrode and a finger-type bottom electrode. By placing the semitransparent finger-type photodetector on a light source, such as a light-emitting diode (LED), the photodetector can detect the light reflected from an object on top of the sensor. With the highly compact structure, the detecting range is from 1 mm to 30 mm. From 1 mm to 10 mm, the sensor is particularly sensitive and delivers a resolution of 1 mm. The air-stable photodetector can also be fabricated on a flexible substrate without encapsulation, enabling the integration with arbitrary light sources. After 1000 times bending, the flexible photodetector shows no obvious degradation. (C) 2017 Elsevier B.V. Compared with a conventional IZO TFT with a silicon nitride dielectric, a fluoropolymer dielectric effectively reduces the operation voltage to less than 3V and greatly increases the effective mobility 40-fold. We suggest that the dipole layer formed at the dielectric surface facilitates electron accumulation and induces the electric double-layer effect. The dipole-induced hysteresis effect is also investigated. This work investigates a cheap and compact short-range proximity sensor based on an organic photo detector combined with a commercial LED. Low-cost solution-processed organic materials are used, and low process temperatures at 140 degrees C also facilitate future integration on, e.g., plastic substrates. In particular, to avoid damage of the organic layer during the patterning process, a new organic photo detector with a semi-transparent organic active layer and a transparent silver nanowire top electrode was designed. The proposed sensor can be realized by using only one shadow mask to pattern the opaque bottom electrode layer. The opaque finger-type bottom electrode not only partly shields the light emitted from below the device, but also defines the active regions with vertical electric field to generate and collect photo current. In the experiments conducted in this paper, the maximum detection distance was found to be 2 cm, whereas the lower end of the measurement range was 0.2 cm.Item type:Item, The zinc-loss effect and mobility enhancement of DUV-patterned sol-gel IGZO thin-film transistors(2018-03-01) ;Wang, Kuan-Hsun ;Zan, Hsiao-Wen ;Soppera, Olivier ;光電工程學系Department of PhotonicsWe investigate the composition of the DUV-patterned sol-gel indium gallium zinc oxide (IGZO) thin-film transistors (TFTs) and observe a significant zinc loss effect during developing when the DUV exposure is insufficient. The zinc loss, however, is beneficial for increasing the mobility. Reducing zinc to indium composition ratio from 0.5 to 0.02 can effectively increase mobility from 0.27 to 7.30 cm(2) V-1 s (-1) when the gallium to indium ratio is fixed as 0.25 and the post annealing process is fixed as 300 degrees C for 2 h. On the other hand, an IGO TFT fails to deliver a uniform film and a reproducible TFT performance, revealing the critical role of zinc in forming homogeneous IGZO TFTs.
