Item type:Item, A Novel Optical Code-Based Label Switching Architecture for WDM Packet Switched Networks(2010-12-01) ;Wang, Zhao-Wei ;Liang, Man-Gui ;Jia, Wen-Kang ;Chen, Yaw-Chung資訊工程學系To cope with ever-increasing traffic demands in transport networks, all-optical switching is currently perceived as a solution to remove bottlenecks imposed by O/E/O conversions. Optical label switching accomplishes packet switching using the optical-labels. It simplifies the design of switching devices in the optical domain and speeds up packet forwarding significantly. In this paper, we propose a novel design of optical switches, and present a performance analysis to show its in-depth behavior. The analysis results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed switching architecture.Item type:Item, A Novel Optical Code-Based Label Switching Architecture for WDM Packet Switched Networks(2010-12-01) ;Wang, Zhao-Wei ;Liang, Man-Gui ;Jia, Wen-Kang ;Chen, Yaw-Chung資訊工程學系To cope with ever-increasing traffic demands in transport networks, all-optical switching is currently perceived as a solution to remove bottlenecks imposed by O/E/O conversions. Proposed scheme adopts successful factors of existing architecture such as GMPLS, and to construct a high performance, scalable and manageable IP-based AOLS network. Similar to GMPLS, a particular label based on source routing information is attached to IP packets/burst for fast interconnection purpose rather than an option as source-routing in conventional IP framework, thus the scheme requires neither table lookup nor header replacing in the intermediate node, labeled packets will be quickly forwarded through self-routing, and the only operation in switching nodes is to strip off its part of the label which represents the output port, which eliminates the O/E/O conversion as much as possible. The benefits include simple switching process with low packet delay, higher security, and better scalability on next generation optical Internet.Item type:Item, Vector Label Switching (VLS): A High-Performance Switching Architecture for Future Internet(2011) ;Wang, Zhao-Wei ;Liang, Man-Gui ;Jia, Wen-Kang ;Chen, Yaw-Chung資訊工程學系One of the major bottlenecks of high performance IP network is related to the operation of switching nodes beside the link bandwidth. There are obvious drawbacks in packet forwarding of the conventional IP and MPLS networking architecture. In this paper, we propose an innovative concept: Vector Label Switching (VLS) architecture that supports high performance and low cost for the core Internet. Similar to MPLS, a label based on source routing information is attached to packets for fast interconnection purpose rather than an option as source-routing in conventional IP framework. The proposed architecture requires neither table lookup nor header replacing in the router/switch, and labeled packets will be quickly forwarded through Label Stripping algorithm. The packet processing unit can be made simple because the operation for packet forwarding is simple in VLS. As a result, the price and energy consumption of a switch/router can be evidently cut down. The significant performance improvement of the proposed architecture is proven through mathematical analysis and simulation in this paper.
