Item type:Item, 1.1-Gb/s White-LED-Based Visible Light Communication Employing Carrier-Less Amplitude and Phase Modulation(2012-10-01) ;Wu, Fang-Ming ;Lin, Chun-Ting ;Wei, Chia-Chien ;Chen, Cheng-WeiHuang, Hou-TzuWe demonstrate 1.1-Gb/s visible light communication (VLC) employing carrier-less amplitude and phase modulation (CAP) and a commercially available phosphorescent white light emitting diode (LED). Optical blue filtering, pre-compensation, and decision feedback equalization are used to compensate the frequency response of the phosphor-based white LED. Various modulation orders of CAP signals are investigated to maximize the capacity of the VLC system. The record data rate of 1.1 Gb/s with the bit error rate performance below the FEC limit of 10(-3) is successfully achieved >23-cm air-transmission via a 220-MBaud 32-CAP signal.Item type:Item, 100-GHz DD-OFDM-RoF system over 150-km fiber transmission employing pilot-aided phase noise suppression and bit-loading algorithm(2014-02-24) ;Huang, Hou-Tzu ;Liang, Wan-Ling ;Lin, Chun-Ting ;Wei, Chia-ChienChi, SienThis study extended the transmission distance of a 100-GHz DD-OFDM-RoF system through the reduction of chromatic dispersion-induced phase noise. The implementation of a pilot-aided phase noise suppression (PPNS) scheme enabled the transmission of distance-insensitive 16.97-Gbps QPSK OFDM over 0 similar to 150-km fiber and 2-m air transmission via a DFB laser with linewidth of 1 similar to 10-MHz. We applied a bit-loading algorithm in conjunction with PPNS to maximize spectral efficiency, resulting in a 93% improvement in the data rate from 11.53 to 22.27 Gbps at a fiber transmission of 150 km. With the proposed equalizer employing least mean squares (LMS) algorithm, MIMO channel mixing and I/Q-mismatch can be compensated simultaneously. 16-QAM and 32-QAM OFDM signal transmissions under forward error correction (FEC) threshold (1 x 10(-3)) are demonstrated. A data rate of 76.3 Gb/s can be achieved with a bit-loading algorithm over 25-km fiber transmission and 3.5-m wireless transmission.Item type:Item, 2 x 2 MIMO radio-over-fiber system at 60 GHz employing frequency domain equalization(2012-01-02) ;Lin, Chun-Ting ;Ng'oma, Anthony ;Lee, Wei-Yuan ;Wei, Chia-ChienWang, Chih-YunThis work experimentally demonstrates the efficacy of the 2 x 2 multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technique for capacity improvement of a 60-GHz radio-over-fiber (RoF) system employing single-carrier modulation format. We employ frequency domain equalization (FDE) to estimate the channel response, including frequency response of the 60 GHz RoF system and the MIMO wireless channel. Using FDE and MIMO techniques, we experimentally demonstrate the doubling the of wireless data capacity of a 60 GHz RoF system to 27.15 Gb/s using 16-QAM modulation format, with transmission over 25 km of standard single-mode fiber and 3 m wireless distance. Even though the typical modulation bandwidth of a WRC-FPLD is only similar to 1.25 GHz, using spectrally-efficient 32-QAM OFDM or SC-FDE modulation, 20-Gbps uplink signals can achieve the FEC limit after 25-km dispersion-uncompensated single-mode fiber transmission. Because of the advantage of lower PAPR, the SC-FDE signals outperform the OFDM signals with the fixed 32-QAM format in the proposed system; moreover, SC-FDE scheme can be another promising candidate for uplinks in WDM-PONs, for its simplification to ONUs. The signal at the mode of 1560.7 nm shows similar quality with the signal at the modes of 1545.3 nm and 1574.7 nm, the WRC-FPLD, accordingly, has wide injection wavelength range from at least 1545.3 nm to 1574.7 nm. With the mode spacing of 0.55 nm, consequently, we have demonstrated the applicability of the colorless WRC-FPLD on supporting up to 36 channels in the WDM-PON. The proposed pre-processing method reduces the sampling rate of the ADC to 1/2 similar to 1/32 of the Nyquist sampling rate. The FFT size can be reduced to 1/32 (i.e., from 1024 to 32) due to lower sampling ratio and each user just needs to recover and demodulate their corresponding data without any additional DSP, which greatly reduces the complexity of the receiver. Meanwhile, the proposed TI-FDMA has lower PAPR than traditional localized FDMA (L-FDMA), interleaved FDMA (I-FDMA), and OFDM. Such the PAPR reduction makes TI-FDMA support the modulation format of 1 order higher compared to OFDM, thereby, leading to 12.5% capacity improvement. Employing the proposed scheme, up to 43.63-Gbps PON is experimentally demonstrated, and each of 32 users requires only 0.5-GSample/s ADC.Item type:Item, 43.63-Gbit/s Multiple-User SC-FDMA PON with sub-Nyquist Receiver and PAPR Reduction(2018-01-01) ;Chang, Hao-Hsiang ;Lin, Chi-Hsiang ;Fang, Ruei ;Lin, Chun-TingWei, Chia-ChienWe demonstrate 43.63-Gbps SC-FDMA with 0.5-GSample/s sampling-rate receiver (1/32 Nyquist sampling rate) for each 32-user, which was experimentally demonstrated in commercial optical transmitter and receiver. A brief introduction of traditional SC-FDMA including L-FDMA and I-FDMA is contained. Meanwhile, a PAPR reduction is included in the proposed SC-FDMA system. The method of PAPR reduction makes the PAPR of SC-FDMA be isolated with the number of users and be lower than that of OFDM over 1-dB. Compared to OFDM, such reduction enables SC-FDMA to carry higher-order modulation format, achieving 12.5% capacity improvement (i.e. increases from 37.76 Gbit/s to 43.63 Gbit/s). Moreover, receivers' FFT size will be reduce to 1/32 of that in conventional SC-FDMA. We also compare results with L-FDMA, I-FDMA, and OFDM utilizing high sampling-rate ADC.Item type:Item, 5-bit/s/Hz 50-Gbps W-band Optical/Wireless System Employing Single-Sideband Single-Carrier Modulation(2014-01-01) ;Ho, Chun-Hung ;Cheng, Yu-Hsuan ;Huang, Hou-Tzu ;Lin, Chun-TingWei, Chia-ChienWe experimentally demonstrate W-band radio-over-fiber system employing single-sideband single-carrier modulation with lower PAPR than OFDM. Up to 50-Gbps wireless transmission with the highest spectral efficiency of 5-bit/s/Hz at 103GHz can be achieved over 25-km fiber.Item type:Item, 50-Gbps 100-km EAM-based OFDM-IMDD Transmission Employing Novel SSII Cancellation(2014-01-01) ;Chen, Hsing-Yu ;Wei, Chia-Chien ;Chen, Yu-Chao ;Chu, Hsuan-HaoSong, Cih-YuanWe build a new SSII cancellation technique to compensate both modulator nonlinearity and dispersion-induced nonlinear distortion.
