Item type:Item, Complementary carbon nanotube-gated carbon nanotube thin-film transistor(2006-02-27) ;Chen, BH ;Lin, HC ;Huang, TY ;Wei, JHWang, HHWe introduce, a complementary carbon nanotube (CNT)-gated CNT thin-film field effect transistor (FET). By using two perpendicularly crossed single-wall CNT (SWNT) bundles as the gate and the channel interchangeably, a sub-50 nm complementary CNT-FET is demonstrated. It is found that the new CNT-FET shows acceptable FET characteristics by interchanging the roles of the gate and the channel. The unique dual functionality of the device will open up a new possibility and flexibility in the design of future complementary CNT electronic circuits. In order to synthesize single wall carbon nanotubes (SWNT) for the fabrication of a field-effect transistor (FET), the cobalt-mix-tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) (CMT) solution is proposed. The CMT solution has the unique property of dispersing the cobalt (Co) catalyst well and uniformly embedding it in a predetermined location after the CMT solution has solidified. The lateral growth of bundle-SWNT could be formed in atmospheric chemical vapor deposition (APCVD) with ethanol. The ratio value of I-on/I-off is as high as 10(4), indicating the presence of a semiconducting channel. A passivation layer over the source/drain electrode greatly suppresses the liquid-gate leakage by about three orders of magnitude. The channel currents are noticeably distinct between two liquid samples: distilled water and aqueous solution (1x10(-4) M NaCl). This biological sensing ability is attributed to the different electrical double-layer capacitances with respect to the bulk part of the channel. The corresponding theoretical calculation is carried out in detail. The options being considered are fuel alternatives, energy conservation, reduced peak production, improved electric efficiency and CO2 capture technologies. The results indicate that energy conservation can significantly reduce CO2 emissions only when combined with reduced peak production and improved electric efficiency. The cost effectiveness of installing CO2 capture and disposal devices was compared to that of fuel alternative plan. It is concluded that the installation of CO2 capture and disposal devices can be an effective and economic option.
