Item type:Item, Comments on "A computational evolutionary approach to evolving game strategies and cooperation"(2004-06-01) ;Wu, HC ;Sun, CT ;資訊工程學系Department of Computer ScienceAzuaje offers an approach to the co-evolution of competing virtual creatures and a model for the evolution of game strategies and their emerging behaviors [1]. This model can be greatly simplified and optimal solutions can be obtained more quickly and easily by using an analytical approach. We emphasize the importance of performing a model analysis before choosing an evolutionary or analytical approach to a problem. Furthermore, Azuaje's model is derived from the Prisoner's Dilemma, a classical model in game theory; some results have already been discussed in the literature. We discuss his model from the perspective of game theorists.Item type:Item, Effects of JPEG2000 on the information and geometry content of aerial photo compression(2005-02-01) ;Liu, JK ;Wu, HC ;Shih, TY ;土木工程學系Department of Civil EngineeringThe standardization effort of the next ISO standard for compression of the still image, JPEG2000, has recently reached International Standard (IS) status. This wavelet-based standard outperforms the Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) based JPEG in terms of compression ratio, as well as, quality. In this study, the performance of JPEG2000 is evaluated for aerial image compressions. Different compression ratios are applied to scanned aerial photos at the 1:5000 scale. Both the image quality measurements and the accuracy of photogrammetric point determination aspects are examined. The evaluation of image quality is based on visual analysis of the objects in the scene and on the computation of numerical indices, including RMSE, entropy, and Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR). The geometric quality of JPEG2000 with different compression ratios is studied for some photogrammetric operations, including interior orientation, relative orientation, absolute orientation, and DSM generation. The objective of this study is to explore the possibility of JPEG2000 for replacing JPEG as a standard in photogrammetric operations.Item type:Item, What should we do before running a social simulation? The importance of model analysis(2005-06-01) ;Wu, HC ;Sun, CT ;資訊工程學系Department of Computer ScienceBefore running a model simulation, it is important to accumulate as much information about the model as possible. Although an analysis of relations among model components is considered a promising means of accomplishing this task, the social simulation literature offers very little guidance in performing such analyses. We use an analytical framework to demonstrate how model analysis can facilitate the simulation process, with the Iterated Prisoner's Dilemma serving as a primary example. Our results show that the analysis was helpful in identifying important strategies and simulation phenomena, thus reducing the amount of work required for the simulation. We suggest that this framework is applicable to other types of two-person matrix games, and that the methods we use are also suitable for other macro- or agent-based simulation models.
