Item type:Item, A comparison of congestion control and time slot algorithms in Internet transmission performance(2002-02-01) ;Yang, C ;Fu, CH ;資訊管理與財務金融系 註:原資管所+財金所Department of Information Management and FinanceThe characteristics of TCP and UDP lead to different network transmission behaviours. TCP is responsive to network congestion whereas UDP is not. This paper proposes two mechanisms that operate at the source node to regulate TCP and UDP flows and provide a differential service for them. One is the congestion-control mechanism, which uses congestion signal detected by TCP flows to regulate the flows at the source node. Another is the time-slot mechanism, which assigns different number of time slots to flows to control their flow transmission. Based on the priority of each flow, different bandwidth proportions are allocated for each flow and differential services are provided. Simulation results show some insights of these two mechanisms. Moreover, we summarize the factors that may impact the performance of these two mechanisms. To make the subject categorization of Web query terms more efficient and adaptive, an automatic or computer-aided mechanism is needed. The purpose of this paper is therefore to propose a mechanism that carefully integrates human and machine efforts to explore Web users' search interests. The approach is designed to consist of a four-step process including the extraction of core terms, construction of subject taxonomy, automatic subject categorization of query terms, and observation of users' search interests. Some experiments have been conducted, and the preliminary results show that it is possible to categorize query terms into a pre-defined subject taxonomy which helps to explore users' search interests by online monitoring the distribution of subject categories and the composed query terms in real time. The research findings are proved valuable for enhancing Web IR (Information Retrieval) systems and Web content organization.Item type:Item, Improving the spectral sharpness of an apodized fibre grating(2000-09-01) ;Yang, C ;Lai, Y ;光電工程學系Department of PhotonicsWe fabricate a steep skirt fibre Bragg grating (FBG) by employing an apodized phase mask. The ratio of the FBG reflection bandwidth at -0.5 to -20 dB is improved from 0.35-0.55.Item type:Item, Measuring satisfaction with business-to-employee systems(2004-01-01) ;Huang, JH ;Yang, C ;Jin, BH ;Chiu, H管理科學系Marketing the products of other companies within an individual company Intranet can benefit both employees and the company itself. Understanding what constitutes a satisfying experience on the part of the employees is crucial for developing successful business-to-employee systems. While end-user computing satisfaction has been studied extensively, new aspects such as purchasing convenience, product prices in the system and product delivery have to be included. This study develops an instrument for reliably and accurately measuring business-to-employee success. Test-retest reliability and construct validity are examined. The results of this study show that convenience, delivery, interface, accuracy, price and security influence employee assessments of satisfaction. Managers can use the instrument developed here to assess the success of their business-to-employee systems. (C) 2003 Elsevier Ltd. However, most products have several qualitative characteristics or responses of interest. The Taguchi method in itself optimises a single response or performance characteristic, yielding a set of process parameters. This particular setting, however, may not give the desired results for other characteristics of the product. There is a need to obtain a single optimum setting of process parameters that can be used to produce products with optimum or near optimum quality characteristics as a whole. Multi-characteristic response optimisation may be the solution to the above problem. In this report, a case study on thermoforming polypropylene foams, utilising a simplified multi-criterion methodology based on Taguchi's approach and utility concept, is discussed. Key processing factors affecting product quality are identified. It has been shown that the proposed Taguchi approach with the utility concept can provide an appropriate solution to yield a satisfactory product quality for a multi-response process optimisation problem.Item type:Item, Perception difference between users and information professionals: A case study of TaiPower(2003) ;Yang, C ;Wu, CY ;經營管理研究所Institute of Business and ManagementDuring the development of information systems, users and information professionals have lots of interactions such as interviews for information requirements, and discussions on specifications. Effective communications between these two types of people dictate the success of the system development. A more sophisticated factor that affects the success of the system development would be whether there is a perception gap between them. In a development team, users and information professionals may have different perceptions on the role and required skill sets of system analysts. This difference leads to different behavior. Likewise, when there is consistent perception of the users' involvement one can expect the reduction of the resistance to the system development. This research is to report the case of Taiwan Power Company on the perception difference between IT professionals and information systems users. By using multivariate analysis, this study found that there are significant differences regarding "the required skill sets of system analysts," and "the expected role playing of system analysts." However, there is no significant difference regarding the "non-material motivation of system analysts."Item type:Item, Satisfaction with business-to-employee benefit systems and organizational citizenship behavior - An examination of gender differences(2004) ;Huang, JH ;Jin, BH ;Yang, C ;管理科學系經營管理研究所Marketing the Products of other companies within an individual company intranet can benefit both employees and the company itself. This study examines the dimensions of satisfaction with a business-to-employees (B2E) benefit system and the linkages between satisfaction and organizational citizenship behavior (OCB). Structural equation modeling of data shows that convenience, delivery, interface accuracy, prince and security are factors that affect employee satisfaction with the B2E benefit system. Price is more important to the satisfaction of males than females. Significant, positive relationships were found between satisfaction and OCB. Perceived organizational support plays a stronger mediating role in leading to OCB for females than it does for males.Item type:Item, Strategies for technology platforms(2006-05-01) ;Yang, C ;Jiang, S ;經營管理研究所Institute of Business and ManagementThis management framework permits integrating positioning, competencies and acquisitions in the context of a dynamic process of platform strategy. The integration method suggested is the platform-market matrix, which can be used to capture the market dynamics and the platform dynamics simultaneously. In addition, with the proposed framework a company can quickly choose the action ,odes or platform strategies in an appropriate setting, along with their supporting strategies.Item type:Item, Subject categorization of query terms for exploring Web users' search interests(2002-06-01) ;Pu, HT ;Chuang, SL ;Yang, C ;資訊管理與財務金融系 註:原資管所+財金所Department of Information Management and FinanceSubject content analysis of Web query terms is essential to understand Web searching interests. Such analysis includes exploring search topics and observing changes in their frequency distributions with time. To provide a basis for in-depth analysis of users' search interests on a larger scale, this article presents a query categorization approach to automatically classifying Web query terms into broad subject categories. Because a query is short in length and simple in structure, its intended subject(s) of search is difficult to judge. Our approach, therefore, combines the search processes of real-world search engines to obtain highly ranked Web documents based on each unknown query term. These documents are used to extract cooccurring terms and to create a feature set. An effective ranking function has also been developed to find the most appropriate categories. Three search engine logs in Taiwan were collected and tested. They contained over 5 million queries from different periods of time. The achieved performance is quite encouraging compared with that of human categorization. The experimental results demonstrate that the approach is efficient in dealing with large numbers of queries and adaptable to the dynamic Web environment. Through good integration of human and machine efforts, the frequency distributions of subject categories in response to changes in users' search interests can be systematically observed in real time. The approach has also shown potential for use in various information retrieval applications, and provides a basis for further Web searching studies.Item type:Item, The management of science and technology projects in Taiwan(1997-01-01) ;Yang, C ;Tarng, MY ;Hsu, FM ;交大名義發表管理科學系Since 1982, in order to raise the global technology competitiveness, the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) in Taiwan, ROC has offend about five hundred million US dollars each year to support applied research in technology development through a program called 'Science and Technology Projects (STP)'. This research reports an operational model called IPRCE (Input-Process-Result-Channel-Effect) for management and performance evaluation. To achieve operational effectiveness and efficiency of the STP, this research conducts three forums among members of industry, government, Legislative Yuan, and academia. In the first forum, the evaluation criteria and items in IPRCE are evaluated and approved. In the second forum, the weighting system for IPRCE criteria is determined for reference in actual STP evaluation. From the weights of the five stages in IPRCE, it is found that the professionals focus on the effectiveness rather than efficiency. In the third forum, the processes of STP operation are investigated thoroughly and comprehensive suggestions induced. According to the suggestions of professionals, the MOEA plans to do some milestone changes: 1. to change proposal operation from bottom-up to top-down, 2, to open the STP to industries, 3. to reduce the proposing process from 18 months to 6 months.Item type:Item, The management of science and technology projects in Taiwan(1997-01-01) ;Yang, C ;Tarng, MY ;Hsu, FM ;管理科學系Department of Management ScienceSince 1982, in order to raise the global technology competitiveness, the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) in Taiwan, ROC has offend about five hundred million US dollars each year to support applied research in technology development through a program called 'Science and Technology Projects (STP)'. Through this programme, the government offers over 10 billion NT dollars per year to support technological research and development. Furthermore, the STP is executed by statutory bodies (non-profit research institutes) funded by the MOEA. For the purposes of budget allocation and control, an annual performance evaluation of STP is needed, though it is a difficult task. Although the MOEA has established a system of performance evaluation and has practised it for years, there is no consensus on the fairness of this system among research institutes and other interested parties competing for funds. A more elegant evaluation system is needed. The purpose of this research is to establish a reliable system of performance indicators for the STP. Our study reviewed the whole performance indicators system of R&D projects and proposed a feasible revision. The system of performance indicators can be further divided into three subsystems: (1) indicators for research results, (2) indicators for industrial co-operation, (3) indicators for technology diffusion.Item type:Item, The performance indicators for science and technology projects in Taiwan(1997-01-01) ;Yang, C ;Tarng, MY ;Lai, CS ;Lin, ZB管理科學系To help the Taiwanese private sector to compete globally, the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) in Taiwan initiated a programme called the 'Science and Technology Project (STP)' in 1982.
