Item type:Item, 200nA Low Quiescent Current Deep-Standby Mode in 28nm DC-DC Buck Converter for Active Implantable Medical Devices(2015) ;Chu, Li-Cheng ;Yang, Te-Fu ;Huang, Ru-Yu ;Su, Yi-PingLin, Chiun-Hethe proposed deep-standby mode (DSM) is used in 28nm power management unit (PMU) for long-term usage in active implantable medical devices (AIMD). The PMU can upgrade its normal mode with the proposed embedded auto-cancellation (EAC) technique in order to have high accuracy even if the battery is aging and the PVT variations occur. The test chip fabricated in 28nm CMOS process features low quiescent current of 200nA and output voltage accuracy of 98%. Seamless transition among the DSM and the accurate mode demonstrates both low quiescent current and high accuracy can be achieved in the proposed PMU.Item type:Item, 90% Peak Efficiency Single-Inductor-Multiple-Output DC-DC Buck Converter with Output Independent Gate Drive Control(2015-01-01) ;Su, Yi-Ping ;Lin, Chiun-He ;Peng, Shen-Yu ;Huang, Ru-YuYang, Te-FuItem type:Item, A 97% Maximum Efficiency Fully Automated Control Turbo Boost Topology for Battery Chargers(2019-11-01) ;Muniandi, Balakumar ;Huang, Chao-Jen ;Kuo, Chun-Chieh ;Yang, Te-FuChen, Ke-HorngIn this paper, the proposed topology of a fully automated control (FAC) battery charger that provides turbo-boost operation and fully automated detection without any feedback from the system is discussed. It uses closed-loop control for automatic system load detection and automatically adjusts the battery discharge current. The advantages include shortened battery discharge time and maximum power provided by the adapter. Therefore, the FAC technique is flexible for any load system that is limited to battery chargers with the turbo boost mode support. In addition, to avoid over discharge, a battery protection circuitry is also included. The test chip is fabricated using a 0.25- $\mu \text{m}$ CMOS process, with a maximum efficiency of 94.58 & x0025; when the charger operates in the turbo boost mode, and achieves 97 & x0025; maximum efficiency when the charger operates in buck charge mode.Item type:Item, CCM/GM Relative Skip Energy Control and Bidirectional Dynamic Slope Compensation in a Single-Inductor Multiple-Output DC-DC Converter for Wearable Device Power Solution(2016-08) ;Su, Yi-Ping ;Lin, Chiun-He ;Yang, Te-Fu ;Huang, Ru-YuChen, Wei-ChungCompact size wearable devices require multiple supplies with relative large loading difference, which causes serious cross regulation, large ripple, and oscillation in single-inductor multiple-output (SIMO) DC-DC converter. Thus, a continuous conduction mode/green mode (CCM/GM) relative skip energy control (RSEC) in SIMO is proposed for wearable device power solution. Different from the conventional absolute skip method, the RSEC eliminates unnecessary skip-induced voltage ripple and cross regulation with well regulation performance over wide load and voltage ranges. Optimization between efficiency and voltage ripple achieves low noise supply and reduced switching loss. In addition, smooth transition between CCM and GM provides high power and longer usage time in wearable devices. Furthermore, bidirectional dynamic slope compensation conquers subharmonic oscillation and avoids invalid pulses in the energy delivery operation of current-mode SIMO DC-DC converters. The test chip fabricated in the 0.18 mu m CMOS process occupies 2.24 mm(2) active area. Maximum output ripple, overshoot/undershoot, and cross regulation are kept below 40 mV, 27 mV, and 0.0432 mV/mA, respectively.Item type:Item, CCM/GM Relative Skip Energy Control in Single-inductor Multiple-output DC-DC Converter for Wearable Device Power Solution(2014) ;Su, Yi-Ping ;Lin, Chiun-He ;Yang, Te-Fu ;Huang, Ru-YuChen, Wei-ChungCompact size wearable devices require multiple supplies with relative large loading difference, which causes serious cross regulation, large ripple and oscillation in single-inductor multiple-output (SIMO) DC-DC converter. For 10-year usage, high accuracy supply voltage is essential with the unavoidable aging of the power system to achieve near-natural beat rhythm. A Self-Calibration DC-DC Buck converter (SC-Buck) is proposed to achieve high output voltage accuracy by eliminating offset caused by mismatch of process, voltage and temperature (PVT). Furthermore, the discontinuity which affects transient performance in conventional offset cancellation is also overcome. Large area occupation, which is required to decrease mismatch in conventional operational amplifier, can be largely decreased according to Monte Carlo analysis. Without trimming process, the proposed SC-Buck technique achieves high accuracy for long-term usage (years) and low cost. The test chip fabricated in UMC 28nm CMOS process proves the output voltage accuracy of 97% since the mismatch of error amplifier can be suppressed from 122% to 1%.
