Item type:Item, Enhancing ICP with P2P technology: Cost, availability, and reconfiguration(2004-07-01) ;Yeh, PJ ;Chuang, YC ;Yuan, SM ;資訊工程學系Department of Computer ScienceTraditional Web cache servers based on HTTP and ICP infrastructure tend to have higher hardware and management cost, have difficulty in availability, automatic and dynamic reconfiguration, and may have slow links to some users. We find that peer-to-peer technology can help solve these problems. The peer cache service (PCS) we proposed here leverages each peer's local cache, similar access patterns, fully distributed coordination, and fast communication channels to enhance response time, scale of cacheable objects, and availability. Moreover, incorporating goals and strategies such as making the protocol lightweight and mutually compatible with existing cache infrastructure, supporting mobile devices, undertaking dynamic three-level caching, and exchanging cache meta-information further improve the effectiveness and differentiate our work from other similar-at-first-glance P2P Web cache systems.Item type:Item, Mandarin question sentence detection: A preliminary study(2003-01-01) ;Yeh, PJ ;Yuan, SM ;資訊工程學系Department of Computer ScienceDetecting Mandarin question sentences is both interesting and difficult. To tackle this new topic, our strategy is first to try to increase recall and then precision. To achieve higher recall, we not only review relevant linguistic literature but also re-examine relevant issues from a new statistical and corpus point of view, and discover more comprehensive and precise question-related words than before. Next we present our statistical approaches and procedure, and discuss our findings. We achieve good recall and modest precision in the preliminary study, and pioneer the computational study of indefinitives.Item type:Item, Mandarin question sentence detection: A preliminary study(2003-01-01) ;Yeh, PJ ;Yuan, SM ;交大名義發表 ;資訊工程學系National Chiao Tung UniversityDetecting Mandarin question sentences is both interesting and difficult. That is, learners play an active role in their learning process, while instructors are passive oi even invisible. Unable to treat the instructor/learner relationship as a whole causes some problems. Therefore, we introduce a new concept of instructor-oriented navigation control on the Web, and then propose and implement a protocol for it. In this model, an instructor (technically, master) can setup a learning group, and those who wish to be guided distantly (technically, slaves) during the study may have their navigation activities controlled synchronously by joining the group. We believe that instructors will become more active and positive with the help of our proposed model in a WWW-based educational environment.Item type:Item, Two-level web agent for limited accessibility(1997) ;Yeh, PJ ;Yuan, SM ;Lo, W ;交大名義發表資訊工程學系Many problems frustrate WWW users that suffer limited accessibility to WWW resources, and therefore we propose a 2-level agent architecture trying to solve them. The agent consists of 2 parts: the local agent interacts directly with end-users, while the remote agent interacts primarily with the public Internet. They together learn users' preferences, and help users find and filter information more efficiently: economically, and enjoyably. This paper introduces the concept of the 2-level agent, and investigates practical issues involved in further design.
