Item type:Item, A study forecasting the development tendency of the textile industry in Taiwan(2002) ;Yuan, BJC ;Chang, PC ;科技管理研究所Institute of Management of TechnologyAs the newly emerging technological industry becomes a main axis of the developing economy in Taiwan, the textile industry still plays an important role among traditional industry. Not only has it provided a lot of working opportunities, but it has also brought a huge amount of export surplus. However, since the textile industry still keeps on expanding in some under-developed countries, and in order to maintain the competitiveness of Taiwan textiles in the international market, the Delphi Method is used to make a forecast analysis on the future development of the textile industry in Taiwan. It is hoped that the results obtained will serve as references for the industry, government, and academics in their continuous promotion and research of the textile industry.Item type:Item, An emerging approach for strategy evaluation in fuel cell development(2005) ;Yuan, BJC ;Wang, CP ;Tzeng, GH ;科技管理研究所Institute of Management of TechnologyThis is the first research paper on the topic of Taiwan fuel cell development to combine the two theoretical (AHP and FMCDM) approaches. The conclusion suggests that the priority for Taiwan to develop fuel cell are the fields of 3C electronics, power generation equipment, motorcycles and automobiles. The difficulties the industry has encountered and faced, in turn, are the technology bottlenecks, insufficient R&D investment, high costs, unclear government policy and short supply of R&D professionals. Experts believe the top five strategic actions needed to address the problems are to realise the clean energy policy, establish a national level research programme, increase R&D budget, carefully select the niche products and to plan the operating demonstration or pilot zone. The result will serve as a reference for the government to stipulate relevant industry policy.Item type:Item, An innovative model of multi-project wafer service in the foundry industry(2005) ;Yang, TY ;Tong, LI ;Yuan, BJC ;工業工程與管理學系科技管理研究所The cost of masks is rising rapidly as semiconductor manufacturing technology advances. This increase in cost is a major issue in the development of new products. This study focuses mainly on the business demands of semiconductor design companies who verify the prototypes and produce small-volume wafers, and analyses the constraints on the current Multi-Project Wafer (MPW) model. A new MPW model is proposed to reduce the mask cost and the unit die cost simultaneously. The proposed MPW model allows customers to find the optimal solution to the mask cost and unit die cost according to the chip size and the number of dice required. This study also compares the current model with the proposed MPW model using 0.13 um technology, as an example. For a purchased quantity of dice from a few thousand to less than a hundred thousand, the proposed MPW model yields the lowest sum of the mask cost and the dice cost. Since this ran-e of dice quantities covers more than half of the dice required for semiconductor products, the proposed MPW model can help the semiconductor industry to resolve the conflict between the mask cost and the unit die cost that is caused by the constraints on the current MPW model. When the technology advances to the 90 nm generation, and requested die quantities increased to more than 100,000, the small-volume MPW model proposed in this study will still yield the lowest mask cost and total dice cost.Item type:Item, Analysis on the key factors influencing competitive advantages of DRAM industry in Taiwan(1999) ;Yuan, BJC ;Wang, MY ;科技管理研究所Institute of Management of TechnologyIn view of the great opportunity of future DRAM market and the fact that Taiwan will become a major player in such a market, this paper looks into key factors that influence the competitive advantages of Taiwan DRAM industry. Enterprises should be equipped with speedy and accurate analytical capabilities on business information so that they can foresee the future. For countries such as Taiwan where the majority of the enterprises are small or medium businesses, these enterprises lack the economies of scale and skilled professionals in collecting and analyzing business information in their business environment. External professionals, on the other hand, fit better into their needs. In this case study research, based on organizational buying theory and through questionnaire survey, we try to understand the demand motives, awareness, interest, evaluation items and purchase intention of enterprises for business information in Taiwan. At the end of the case study, we also try to make a few recommendations for information service providers. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. Not only does the Taiwanese opto-electronics industry have a bright future, but huge investments in the area have also boosted the industries of LED (laser emitting diode), scanners, and CD-ROM in Taiwan, which are now ranked in the top three worldwide in terms of their revenues. However, the cost of CD-ROM production cannot be easily reduced due to the high cost of imported key components (e.g. pick-up head and IC components mainly from Japan), which seriously affect the competitiveness of the industry. It is estimated that the opto electronics industry in Taiwan is about 3-4 years behind that of Japan technology-wise with the revenue also far below that of Japan. In recent years, many huge investment projects in Taiwan have attracted attention from domestic and overseas Taiwanese professionals, who have been aggressively devoting themselves into development of new technology. It is therefore easy to be very optimistic about the enormous potential development in the Taiwanese opto-electronic industry which has a solid foundation and is under-developed. This article analyzes the current situation of the opto-electronics industry, using the Delphi method to forecast future developments of the Taiwanese opto-electronic industry up to the year 2010. The simulated results will be a reference to those who are interested in studying the future of the opto-electronics industry in Taiwan. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd.
