Item type:Item, A Complete System for Analysis of Video Lecture Based on Eye Tracking(2018-01-01) ;Zhang, Xuebai ;Yuan, Shyan-Ming ;Chen, Ming-Dao ;Liu, Xiaolong資訊工程學系An eye tracking technology provides a faster and more intuitive interface to explore the learner psychology. In this paper, with the aim of assisting researcher to expand the knowledge of video lectures, we present an efficient system named VLEYE based on eye tracking. The system allows gathering the dynamic areas of interest (AOIs) and combining them with eye movement data. There are mainly three modules in the proposed system, including "eye movement recorder," "dynamic AOI module," and "video analyzer." The "eye movement recorder" records the eye movement data by eye tracking device, where mouse cursor control function is applied to support the use of low-cost devices. The AOIs could be drawn manually or detected and tracked by the provided algorithm automatically in the "dynamic AOI module." The "video analyzer" provides various visualization modes to view and compare the eye movement information for single or multiple subject, as well as statistical charts and detail fixation information. In addition to performance testing, a case study was conducted to verify the applicability of the proposed system. We demonstrate that this system works well and is an essential step forward in efficiently helping studies to better understand learner cognitive processes for dynamic stimuli within video.Item type:Item, A CUSTOMIZED AND PORTABLE COMPONENT-BASED FRAMEWORK FOR INTELLIGENT HOMECARE SYSTEM DESIGN WITH VIDEO AND PHYSIOLOGICAL MONITORING MACHINERIES(2011-10-01) ;Chen, Yen-Lin ;Chiang, Chuan-Yen ;Yu, Chao-Wei ;Yuan, Shyan-MingHong, Zeng-WeiThis study proposes a customized and reusable component-based design framework based on the UML modeling process for intelligent home healthcare systems. All the proposed functional components are reusable, replaceable, and extensible for the system developers to implement customized home healthcare systems addressing different demands of patients and caregivers from healthcare monitoring aspects. The prototype design of the intelligent healthcare system based on these proposed components can provide the following features: (1) monitoring and recording videos of rehabilitation situations and patient behavior using multiple CCD cameras, which can be stored accordingly in an archive; (2) recording the patient's physiological data and corresponding treatment plan, which can be stored in an XML archiving database for caregivers' review; (3) automatically alerting patients to remind them of medication schedules or treatment plans, while recording the patient's treatment situations; (4) caregivers monitoring videos and physiological records of the patient's rehabilitation using handheld mobile devices via the Internet or wireless communication networks; and (5) caregivers and patients establishing alert mechanisms for the patients' physiological warning states. If the patient's physiological state suddenly deteriorates, the module would immediately alert caregivers by sending notification messages to their remote mobile devices or web browsers.Item type:Item, A fault-tolerant ONVIF protocol extension for seamless surveillance video stream recording(2018-01-01) ;Lin, Chia-Feng ;Chiao, Hsin-Ta ;Sheu, Ruey-Kai ;Chang, Yue-ShanYuan, Shyan-MingONVIF (Open Network Video Interface Forum) is an importance industrial standard for the video surveillance field. There are over 8000 ONVIF-compliant IP cameras (i.e., ONVIF NVT) and network video recorders (i.e., ONVIF NVS) from various vendors listed on the ONVIF official website. However, because the current ONVIF specifications do not support any fault-tolerant functions to handle NVS failure, in this paper we propose a fault tolerant solution for ONVIF NVS and try to minimize the modifications to the current ONVIF specifications in the proposed design. Besides, we also propose an extension to the ONVIF NVT for preventing the loss of captured NVT video data during the failover procedure triggered by NVS failure. Finally, we evaluate the following four performance metrics of the proposed fault-tolerant ONVIF surveillance system: the maximal video local cache time supported by an NVT, the response time for accessing an ONVIF web service, the interrupt duration of video recording due to NVS failure, and the live video black out time observed by a video management system. Since the experimental results are all within the acceptable range for a real fault-tolerant video surveillance system in the real world, the experiences provided by this paper is a good reference for improving the fault-tolerant capabilities of the ONVIF video surveillance systems. Since ONVIF specifications do not provide fault-tolerant functions to deal with NVT (Network Video Transmitter) or NVS (Network Video Storage) failure, we propose a fault-tolerant solution for both ONVIF NVT and NVS in this paper. The proposed fault-tolerant extension is also possible to be deployed over cloud-based environments, such as IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) platforms. The proposed solution is evaluated by the following three performance metrics: the access response time for ONVIF web services, the video recording interrupt duration due to NVS failure, and the video black out time of the surveillance video monitoring system. The experimental results show that all the metrics are within the acceptable range for a real world video surveillance system.Item type:Item, A file-deduplicated private cloud storage service with CDMI standard(2016-02-01) ;Liu, Xiao-Long ;Sheu, Ruey-Kai ;Yuan, Shyan-Ming ;Wang, Yu-Ning資訊工程學系The emergence of cloud environments makes users convenient to synchronize files across platform and devices. However, the data security and privacy are still critical issues in public cloud environments. In this paper, a private cloud storage service with the potential for security and performance concerns is proposed. A data deduplication scheme is designed in the proposed private cloud storage system to reduce cost and increase the storage efficiency. Moreover, the Cloud Data Management Interface (CDMI) standard is implemented in the proposed system to increase the interoperability. By Comparing to other P2P libraries and platforms, our framework achieves a great success on providing a flexible and extensible development platform.Item type:Item, A Hadoop based Web log Analysis System(2014-01-01) ;Wang, Chen-Hau ;Tsai, Ching-Tsorng ;Fan, Chia-Chen ;Yuan, Shyan-Ming資訊工程學系In recent years, cloud computing has been an important issue in the Field of research. Cloud computing employs distributed storage and distributed computing technology to achieve a large number of stored data, as well as fast data analysis and processing. As the rapid development of Internet technology, digital data showing explosive growth, the face of massive data processing, the traditional text software and relational database technology has been facing a bottleneck, presented the results are not very satisfactory. For this problem, the concept of cloud computing is a more appropriate choice. In this paper, based on the architecture of Hadoop with HDFS (Hadoop Distributed File System) and Hadoop NlapRecluce software framework and Pig Latin language, we design and implement an enterprise Web log analysis system. Experimental results, by analyzing daily Web log records, we get Application Server traffic trends, performance of program statistical reports, and performance reports of different intervals and different actions of program by user request. The main purpose of this system is to assist system administrators to quickly capture and analyze data hidden in the massive potential value, thus providing an important basis for business decisions.Item type:Item, A low-cost, high-availability P2P storage scheme with regenerating code that combines caching methods(2012) ;Chen, Yu-Liang ;Yuan, Shyan-Ming ;資訊工程學系Department of Computer SciencePeer-to-peer (P2P) storage systems are expected to be fast, fault-tolerant, scalable, and reliable. Thus, high data availability is an essential feature of P2P storage systems. In this article, we present a scheme that utilizes a regenerating code (RC) with caching to improve the performance of content services provided by P2P storage systems. Erasure coding is commonly employed to support high availability, but this technique requires the original file to produce redundant data. In contrast, RC solves the problem by collecting the encoded information. However, RC requires more peers to decode the blocks, which is difficult in a P2P environment because more peers must simultaneously remain active to hold the file blocks. Based on the RC, we store the information for a peer that has recently accessed blocks and utilized the data in the peer's LRU cache to increase the access performance and reduce the encoding cost. We carried out a series of experiments with different cache sizes under various levels of P2P availability. The results show that our scheme can outperform the traditional RC system in terms of access performance, allowing access at least 83% of the time, while also achieving a lower cost.Item type:Item, A MOM-based home automation platform(2007) ;Chen, Chun-Yuan ;Chiu, Chi-Huang ;Yuan, Shyan-Ming ;資訊工程學系Department of Computer ScienceWhile there have been many home networking technologies such as UPnP and INSTEON, appliances supporting different home networking technologies cannot collaborate to finish Home Automation (HA). Although many studies of interoperability among home networking technologies have been done, researches on further HA in heterogeneous environments are still lacking. This paper proposes the MOM-based Home Automation Platform (MHAP), which accomplishes event-driven HA in incompatible home networks. MHAP is independent of any home networking technology and integrates home networking technologies in the home gateway. For users, MHAP provides the easy-to-use and standardized way to configure complex HA scenarios by rules. Through introducing Message Oriented Middleware (MOM) and Open Service Gateway Initiative (OSGi), MHAP offers reliable automatic operations, fault tolerant and reconfigurable HA, high extensibility and large scalable collaboration among appliances, other MHAP gateways and Internet services.Item type:Item, A New Cloud Storage Support and Facebook Enabled Moodle Module(2014-01-01) ;Daraghmi, Eman Yasser ;Hsiao, Cheng-Hsun ;Yuan, Shyan-Ming ;資訊科學與工程研究所Institute of Computer Science and EngineeringWith Moodle a web based interface supporting a wide range of activities including forums, contents, and assignments is provided to assist both the teachers and the students. However, limitations of the file-size acceptable for uploads, weakness in the assessment procedure, complicated task of replacing an existing file, and the lowest visiting rate of the traditional discussion module are some major deficiencies in the traditional Moodle module. Thus, we propose a new Moodle module integrating both the cloud storage services and Facebook with the traditional Moodle module to cover the mentioned shortcomings. The module provides a straightforward uploading-function to allow, with only few seconds, uploading several large-size files simultaneously without any restriction on the files-size. The new module also offers an assessment-function that supports the web browsing of the files being uploaded to assist teachers, without the need to download and save each assignment separately, in checking and grading the submitted assignments directly via any web browser. The proposed module also integrates the Moodle with Facebook to increase the visiting rate of the traditional discussion Moodle module; hence, increasing the students\' motivation to ask questions and the interaction among the students. The performance and the usability of the new module was evaluated and promising results were obtained.Item type:Item, A novel reversible data hiding scheme based on AMBTC compression technique(2015-06-01) ;Lin, Chia-Chen ;Liu, Xiao-Long ;Tai, Wei-Liang ;Yuan, Shyan-Ming資訊工程學系Data hiding encompasses a wide range of applications for embedding messages in content. However, hiding data inevitably destroys the host image, even though the distortion is imperceptible. To enhance the hiding capacity and maintain the quality of the host image after embedding hidden data, in this paper, we present a high payload reversible data hiding scheme that is based on the absolute moment block truncation coding (AMBTC) compression domain. We explore the redundancy in a block of AMBTC-compressed images to determine if a block is embeddable or non-embeddable. Next, we create four disjoint sets for embeddable blocks to embed data using different combinations of the mean value and the standard deviation. Performance comparisons with other BTC-based schemes are provided to demonstrate the superiority of the proposed scheme.Item type:Item, A P2P Auto-Recover Method for the Factory Data of Cable Modem over the HFC Network(2012) ;Chen, Yu-Liang ;Luo, Guo-Heng ;Chang, Yi-Ming ;Yuan, Shyan-Ming資訊工程學系With the popularization of the Data-OverCable Service Interface Specifications (DOCSIS) product, many devices have been installed in client sides. The issue of how to maintain the quality while providing quick repair becomes more and more important. In some practical circumstances, the cable modem may lose the factory data which include the calibration table and the digital certificates. These data are unique and vital for the regular operations of cable modem. The traditional way of handling the malfunction product is to ship back the product to the maintenance branch and replaces a working device for the customer. In this paper we will present a solution which is based on network coding over peer to peer (P2P) network to fix the problem automatically online, named Cable modem Auto-Recovery (CAROL).Item type:Item, A P2P Blog System with OpenID Integration(2008) ;Lin, Chen-Pu ;Kao, Yung-Wei ;Yuan, Shyan-Ming ;資訊科學與工程研究所Institute of Computer Science and EngineeringBlog services become popular in recently years. Web users can post their articles through the services. On the other hand, the users do not have full control of the articles after posted while the services are built with client/server model. Therefore, we propose to use peer-to-peer (P2P) technology to establish blog services. However, the anonymous feature disables the P2P technology to conduct user identification. The OpenID provides secure and unified authentication mechanism to improve the anonymity. In addition, the OpenID has the single sign on procedure to reduce redundant, multiple accounts and passwords. The paper presents a blog service platform which integrates the P2P networks and the OpenID authentication mechanism together. Therefore, users can establish their own blogs easily with full control. The platform can be utilized for other Internet applications as well.Item type:Item, A parallel Bees Algorithm implementation on GPU(2014-03-01) ;Luo, Guo-Heng ;Huang, Sheng-Kai ;Chang, Yue-Shan ;Yuan, Shyan-Ming資訊科學與工程研究所Bees Algorithm is a population-based method that is a computational bound algorithm whose inspired by the natural behavior of honey bees to finds a near-optimal solution for the search problem. However, how to maximize the value of the overall marketing budget is one of the most concerning issues of all enterprises. The content of the Facebook photo post needs to be analyzed effectively so that the social media companies and managers can concentrate on handling their fan pages. This research aimed to use text mining techniques to find the audience accurately. Therefore, we built a topic model recommendation system (TMRS) to analyze Facebook posts by sorting the target posts according to the recommended scores. The TMRS includes six stages, such as data preprocessing, Chinese word segmentation, word refinement, TF-IDF word vector conversion, creating model via Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI), or Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA), and calculating the recommendation score. In addition to automatically selecting posts to create advertisements, this model is more effective in using marketing budgets and getting more engagements. Based on the recommendation results, it is verified that the TMRS can increase the engagement rate compared to the traditional engagement rate recommended method (ERRM). Ultimately, advertisers can have the chance to create ads for the post with potentially high engagements under a limited budget.Item type:Item, A Project-based Curriculum for Teaching C plus plus Object-Oriented Programming(2012) ;Chen, Yen-Lin ;Chiang, Chuan-Yen ;Huang, Yo-Ping ;Yuan, Shyan-Ming資訊工程學系This paper presented a project-based remedial curriculum for teaching the C++ programming language and object-oriented programming (OOP) skills and concepts.
