Item type:Item, Capacity and capability enhancements of FBG sensor system by utilizing intensity and WDM detection technique(2017-03-01) ;Yeh, Chien-Hung ;Zhuang, Yuan-Hong ;Tsai, Ning ;Chow, Chi-Wai光電工程學系In this paper, we demonstrate a multipoint fiber Bragg grating (FBG)-based sensor system by using intensity and wavelength-division-multiplexing (I-WDM) technique to enhance the sensing capacity and capability. In the proposed multipoint sensor system, a three output port optical splitter with different output ratios of 50%, 35% and 15% is proposed to connect each intensity coding FBG sensor for strain and temperature sensing simultaneously. Different output ratios of connected ports can produce different intensity-coding for I-WDM application. Nine FBGs with different Bragg wavelengths are employed for demonstration. The proposed FBG sensor system not only can sense the strain and temperature simultaneously, but also can increase the capacity and capability.Item type:Item, Fault Self-Detection Technique in Fiber Bragg Grating-Based Passive Sensor Network(2016-11-15) ;Yeh, Chien-Hung ;Tsai, Ning ;Zhuang, Yuan-Hong ;Chow, Chi-WaiLiu, Wen-FengIn this paper, we propose and experimentally investigate a fault self-detection technique in fiber Bragg grating (FBG)-based passive sensor network. Here, once a fault occurs on connecting fiber or FBG sensor, it can be detected directly by the proposed sensing network. Moreover, in the proposed FBG sensor system, the multiple wavelength-division-multiplexing FBG sensor numbers can be reduced significantly and also increase the sensing capability for sensing temperature and strain simultaneously. In the measurement, when the temperature variation is from 20 degrees C to 75 degrees C, the measured Bragg wavelength shift of tension is nearly 0.74 nm. While the strain shift of 0.3 mm is applied on FBG, the Bragg wavelength shift of nearly 1.88 nm is observed.Item type:Item, Smart architecture for stable multipoint fiber Bragg grating sensor system(2017-12-01) ;Yeh, Chien-Hung ;Tsai, Ning ;Zhuang, Yuan-Hong ;Huang, Tzu-JungChow, Chi-WaiIn this work, we propose and investigate an intelligent fiber Bragg grating (FBG)-based sensor system in which the proposed stabilized and wavelength-tunable single-longitudinal-mode erbium-doped fiber laser can improve the sensing accuracy of wavelength-division-multiplexing multiple FBG sensors in a longer fiber transmission distance. Moreover, we also demonstrate the proposed sensor architecture to enhance the FBG capacity for sensing strain and temperature, simultaneously.Item type:Item, Stabilized and tunable single-longitudinal-mode erbium fiber laser employing ytterbium-doped fiber based interference filter(2017-02) ;Yeh, Chien-Hung ;Tsai, Ning ;Zhuang, Yuan-Hong ;Chow, Chi-WaiChen, Jing-HengIn this demonstration, to achieve stabilized and wavelength-selectable single-longitudinal-mode (SLM) erbium doped fiber (EDF) laser, a short length of ytterbium-doped fiber (YDF) is utilized to serve as a spatial multi mode interference (MMI) inside a fiber cavity for suppressing multi-longitudinal-mode (MLM) significantly. In the measurement, the output powers and optical signal to noise ratios (OSNRs) of proposed EDF ring laser are measured between 9.85 and 5.71 dBm; and 38.03 and 47.95 dB, respectively, in the tuning range of 1530.0-1560.0 nm. In addition, the output SLM and stability performance are also analyzed and discussed experimentally.Item type:Item, Stable and wavelength-selectable C plus L band fiber ring laser with single- longitudinal-mode by utilizing C-band erbium fiber amplifier(2017-09-04) ;Yeh, Chien-Hung ;Zhuang, Yuan-Hong ;Tsai, Ning ;Chow, Chi-Wai光電工程學系In the investigation, we propose and demonstrate a wavelength-selectable C-plus L-band erbium-doped fiber (EDF) ring laser with single-longitudinal-mode (SLM) output. Here, a C-band erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) is utilized to serve as gain medium together with proposed multi-cross-ring (MCR) scheme to extend the wavelength tunability to L-band range. Besides, the MCR can also suppress the multi-longitudinal-mode (MLM) significantly. Therefore, the measured output power and optical signal to noise ratio (OSNR) of each lasing wavelength are between -10.1 and -2.7 dBm, and 26.4 and 35.0 dB/0.06 nm, respectively in the wavelength range from 1530.0 to 1584.0 nm. In addition, the output stabilities of power and wavelength in the proposed EDF MCR laser have been also analyzed experimentally. (C) 2017 Optical Society of AmericaItem type:Item, Use of proper cavity loss for a stable single-longitudinal-mode erbium fiber laser(2017-06-01) ;Yeh, Chien-Hung ;Zhuang, Yuan-Hong ;Tsai, Ning ;Chow, Chi-WaiChen, Jing-HengA stable and selectable erbium-doped fiber (EDF) ring laser configuration with single-longitudinal-mode (SLM) output is proposed and demonstrated in this paper. In the proposed laser scheme, a proper cavity loss is utilized for significant suppression of the side mode. In the experiment, the different coupling ratios required to produce various cavity losses in the proposed fiber laser are analyzed. Here, to reach the wavelength selection, several fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) and an optical tunable bandpass filter (OTBF) in the C-band range are employed for demonstration. In addition, the output performance with respect to stability and SLM in the proposed EDF ring laser are also investigated simultaneously.Item type:Item, Utilizing dual-pass composite-ring architecture for a stabilized and wavelength-selectable single-longitudinal-mode erbium-doped fiber laser(2016-10) ;Yeh, Chien-Hung ;Zhuang, Yuan-Hong ;Tsai, Ning ;Chen, Jing-HengChow, Chi-WaiIn this paper, we propose using a dual-pass composite-ring construction for a stable and wavelength-tunable erbium-doped fiber (EDF) laser with a single-longitudinal-mode (SLM) output. According to the proposed laser architecture, a flattened output power spectrum within a 0.57 dB power variation can be obtained in the tuning range of 1530 to 1560 nm. In addition, the measured optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) of each output wavelength can be larger than 62.1 dB. Furthermore, a stable and tunable dual-wavelength output of the proposed EDF laser scheme can also be achieved in the same operation range by using two optical filters inside a ring cavity. Here, the maximum and minimum mode spacing of dual-wavelength lasing in the proposed EDF laser are 28.01 and 1.04 nm, respectively. In this measurement, the SLM performance and output stability of the proposed EDF laser are analyzed and discussed experimentally.
