A strategic analysis of industrial specialization for new business model of IC design services

This research focuses on analyzing the specialization models of emergent high-tech service industry. Particularly, a correlation among six innovation types and eight specialization strategies will be constructed for the analysis of industrial specialization enabled by the service platform model. A new business model of IC design services is also used in this research to demonstrate the validity of this specialization model. Results of the empirical study reveal that the optimal specialization direction for developing Taiwan' s IC design service industry is "marketing brand & channels specialization based on structural innovation", "market diversity specialization based on R&D investment innovation" and "financial strength & investment specialization based on market innovation" with the support of value activities including design, marketing and after service as well as externalities of complementary assets, market and other users.
Innovation Intermediary for Creating Regional Knowledge Capabilities in Knowledge Cluster

This research aims to analyze the role of innovation intermediaries in regional knowledge clusters. Particularly, a service approach of innovation strategy, namely, the intermediary platform, is used as an analytical model to explain the business operation of innovation intermediaries and their interaction with knowledge clusters in regional innovation system. In this model, the concepts of industrial environment and technological system were adopted to represent the building blocks of knowledge cluster. Accordingly, the correlation between the firm-level operational resources of innovation intermediaries and industrial environment as well as technological system, would be constructed to discuss the necessary support of sectoral innovation system for fostering the development of innovation intermediaries The result reveals that the regional innovation intermediaries could integrate their value activities and externalities effectively with the support of specific industrial environment and technological system, thereby facilitating the knowledge spillover and creating the regional knowledge capabilities in the sectoral innovation system.
Perturbation On-time (POT) Control and Inhibit Time Control (ITC) in Suppression of THD of Power Factor Correction (PFC) Design

The paper presented the perturbation on-time (POT) control technique to suppress the total harmonic distortion (THD) to improve the performance of the power factor correction (PFC) in the AC-DC converter. Simultaneously, it can improve the efficiency through the proposed inhibit time control (ITC) mechanism at low AC input voltage. The test circuit fabricated in TSMC 800V UHV process can show the highly-integrated PFC controller. Experimental results demonstrate low THD of 8%, which results in high PF of 99%. Besides, high efficiency of 95% can be ensured at the output power of 90W.
