Item type:Item, Architecture and method for fine granularity scalable video coding(2007-04-10) ;Huang ;Hsiang-Chun ;Wang ;Chung-NengChiangA robust fine granularity scalability video encoding includes a base layer encoder and an enhancement layer encoder in which motion compensated difference images are generated by comparing an original image to predicted images at base layer and enhancement layer with motion compensation. Based on leaky and partial predictions, a high quality reference image is constructed at the enhancement layer to improve temporal prediction. In the construction of the high quality reference image, one parameter β controls the number of bitplanes of the enhancement layer difference coefficients used and another parameter α controls the amount of predictive leak. A spatial scalability module allows the processed pictures at the base layer and the enhancement layer to have identical or different spatial resolutions.Item type:Item, Architecture and method for fine granularity scalable video coding(2006-07-04) ;Huang ;Hsiang-Chun ;Wang ;Chung-NengChiangA robust fine granularity scalability video encoding includes a base layer encoder and an enhancement layer encoder in which motion compensated difference images are generated by comparing an original image to predicted images at base layer and enhancement layer with motion compensation. The display material layer is disposed between the first electrode and the second electrode. The display material layer of the invented display includes a solution and a plurality of first micro beads, wherein each of the first micro beads further has a plurality of different axis lengths in different axis directions, and the axis length in at least an axis direction is different from the axis lengths in the rest axis directions so that the first micro beads present different arrangement densities in different driving frequencies under the influence of polarized self-arrangement effect.Item type:Item, Fast motion estimation using N-queen pixel decimation(2006-04-11) ;Wang ;Chung-Neng ;Yang ;Shin-WeiLiuThe present invention proposes a fast motion estimation using N-queen pixel decimation, whereby after a reference block and a block to be processed are selected in a video sequence, an N×N queens pattern is used for pixel decimation to perform block match, thereby obtaining a good enough block difference value. The present invention combines pixel decimation with fast motion estimation for search points reduction to achieve the object of simplifying computational complexity of motion estimation. Therefore, the present invention can sieve out sufficiently representative pixels and will not increase extra computational complexity.Item type:Item, Method and apparatus for motion estimation with all binary representation(2006-03-28) ;Luo ;Jeng-Hung ;Lee ;Gen-MingWangA method of motion estimation for video encoding constructs a binary pyramid structure having three binary layers. A state update module registers and updates repeat occurrence of final motion vectors and a static-state checking module determines if the method is in a static mode or a normal mode based on the repeat occurrence. In a normal mode, the first binary layer is searched within a ±3 pixel refinement window to determine a first level motion vector. In the second binary layer, a search range is computed based on six motion vector candidates. By checking every point within in the search range, a second binary layer search generates a second level motion vector. Finally, a third binary layer search within a ±2 pixel refinement window generates a final motion vector according to the second level motion vector. In a static mode, a fine tuning module performs search within a ±1 pixel refinement window and generates a final motion vector.Item type:Item, Method of enhancing spatial resolution for distributed temperature measurement(2004-11-16) ;Chi ;Sien ;Lee ;Chien-ChungChiangA method that utilizes a short sampling interval and a long-pulsewidth laser source to obtain the long sensing range and employs a signal processing technique of decomposing Brillouin spectrum to achieve high spatial resolution, high temperature resolution of the distributed temperature measurement is disclosed. The present method includes the steps of measuring the Brillouin spectra of an optical pulse applying to a sensing fiber and a overlapped area thereof, determining the length that the pulse enters according to the measured Brillouin spectra and a weighting factor and then determining a real Brillouin spectrum profile and a temperature distribution according to Brillouin frequency shifts thereof. For a 9500-m sensing range of standard single-mode fiber and a 100-ns pulsewidth laser source, spatial and positon resolutions of 20 cm and a temperature resolution of 1.degree. C. are simultaneously achieved by using this signal processing method.Item type:Item, Method of utilizing a fiber for simultaneously measuring distributed strain and temperature(2004-03-02) ;Chi ;Sien ;Lee ;Chien-ChungChiangA method that utilizes a dispersion-shifted fiber having compound compositions with different temperature coefficients in core to simultaneously measure the distributed strain and temperature based on Brillouin frequency shift is disclosed. The present method includes the steps of obtaining mean two peak frequencies in a multi-peak Brillouin spectrum of the dispersion-shifted fiber, determining a temperature change according to the formula of a Brillouin frequency shift of the peak relating to strain and temperature conditions of the fiber, and determining a strain change through the formula. In a 3682-m sensing length of Large-Effective-Area NZ-DS fiber, a temperature resolution of 5.degree. C., a strain resolution of 60 .mu..epsilon. and a spatial resolution of 2 m are achieve simultaneously.
