Item type:Item, Cooling Stimulation on Cerebral Cortex for Epilepsy Suppression with Integration of Micro-Invasive Electrodes and TE Coolers(2013) ;Chiou, Jin-Chern ;Chou, Lei-Chun ;Tsai, Shang-Wei ;Hou, Kuan-ChouChang, Chih-WeiEpilepsy suppression with cooling stimulation is the primary purpose for this study. In this dissertation, cooling stimulation was implemented and demonstrated on cerebral cortex of rats. Electrodes with needle structure was designed and fabricated by using MEMS technology to minimize the size of device. A TE cooler was used to create cooling source and it can be control via electrical current. A cooler component was integrated with an electrode and a TE cooler, in addition, a thermal sensor was also combined with it to detect temperature variation, which was affected by cooling cerebral cortex. The cooler components were implanted on surface of cerebral with deep brain stimulation and the thermal sensors were penetrated into cortex to measure temperature variation which can verify the functions of cooler components. In our experimental results, electrodes with needle structure can improve efficiency of epilepsy suppression due to the particular structure. Duration, frequency and average single time of epileptic waveforms were used to identify to performance of suppression.Item type:Item, Development of absolutely radiant flux measurements with electrical calibrated microbolometer(2011) ;Hou, Kuan-Chou ;Ou-Yang, Mang ;Chiou, Jin-Chern ;交大名義發表National Chiao Tung UniversityAbsolutely flux radiometer measurements was developed with a microbolometer by using MEMS technology including lithography and etching. The radiometer is calibrated with electrical energy and adopted for absolute power and temperature drift, the sensor is called electric calibrated micro bolometer (EC mu B). Platinum is utilized to be a heater and a sensor at different layer, other electric isolation layers were used to separate signal from those two platinum layers. Those layers were integrated and constructed in a membrane which was formed by using TMAH etching solution. Accuracy of radiometer was identified that is proportional to ratio of electrical substitution power and radiant flux was measured with development of EC mu B.Item type:Item, Miniaturized Cortex Cooling Device and System for Hypothermia Therapy Application on Freely Moving Rat(2012) ;Chang, Chih-Wei ;Hou, Kuan-Chou ;Chou, Lei-Chun ;Chiou, Jin-ChernChiou, Jin-ChernThis paper presents a miniaturized brain cortex cooling device and system using thermoelectric (TE) cooler for hypothermia therapy application on freely moving rat. Two type of cooling electrodes including planar and micro-needle structures are fabricated and studied by EEG recording. Comparing to prior arts, our approach can be applied under freely moving behavior. The cooling temperature is designed as 2 degrees C to avoid permanent injury in brain. Packaged planar or needle electrode with TE cooler consumes only 2x2mm2. EEG recording electrodes and thermocouple are implanted for observation as well. Simulation result shows that TE-cooler with needle type electrode behaves deeper effective cooling depth and faster cooling response in rodent cortex range (similar to 2mm deep). Long term EEG monitoring on freely moving rat also presents no extra side effects with continuously cooling.Item type:Item, Optimising the performance of optical data storage drives based on a novel seesaw-swivel actuator for a holographic module(2011-07-01) ;Lin, Yu-Cheng ;Chou, Po-Chien ;Hou, Kuan-Chou ;Cheng, StoneChiou, Jin-ChernThis Letter presents an optical module with a holographic optical element (HOE) for the small-form-factor pickup head. The proposed module is mounted on a novel seesaw swivel-drive mechanism with unique features, including a rotary actuator for track-following; in addition, a seesaw arm nutates along a pivot for laser focusing. Additionally, the actuating force is increased within the limit of actuator size constraints by using a Halbach-magnet-array in biaxial voice coil motors. Experimental assessment of the holographic module and actuator reveals that the HOE module ensures the optical performance and stability of the system, together with a performance superior to a classic hinge-type swing arm actuator, as attributed to enhanced durability and higher robustness.Item type:Item, Verification of a Small-Form-Factor Optical Head With Micro Holographic Optical Element(2011-03-01) ;Hou, Kuan-Chou ;Chiou, Jin-Chern ;交大名義發表National Chiao Tung UniversityA small-form-factor (SFF) pickup head with a holographic optical element (HOE) is fabricated. The system employs a finite-conjugate object lens to focus a light beam. A holographic optical element is used to simplify the optical configuration. It provides a better means of alignment of fabrication and reduces the size of system relative to reflective light route. Thermal analysis was utilized to prove that temperature of LD is under an acceptable range. The pickup head system based on discrete components and a flip chip bonder with highly accurate alignment was to integrate it. Focusing error signal (FES) of pickup head was measured and presented. The optical system is demonstrated and proved that it is a feasible system.Item type:Item, Wireless powering electronics and spiral coils for implant microsystem toward nanomedicine diagnosis and therapy in free-behavior animal(2012-11-01) ;Chang, Chih-Wei ;Hou, Kuan-Chou ;Shieh, Li-Jung ;Hung, Sheng-HsinChiou, Jin-ChernIn this paper, we present a wireless RF-powering electronics system approach for batteryless implantable biomedical microsystem with versatile sensors/actuators on laboratory animals toward diagnosis and therapy applications. Miniaturized spiral coils as a wireless power module with low-dropout (LDO) linear regulator circuit convert RF signal into DC voltage, provide a batteryless implantation for truly free-behavior monitoring without wire dragging. Presented design achieves low quiescent-current and Line/Load Regulation, high antenna/current efficiency with safety considerations including temperature and electromagnetic absorption issues to avoid damage to the implanted target volume of tissue. Related system performance measurements have been successfully completed to demonstrate the wireless powering capabilities in desired implantable microsystems. (c) 2012 Elsevier Ltd.
