Item type:Item, Admittance spectroscopy of the electric properties of 1,4-bis[N-(1-naphthyl)-N '-phenylamino]-4,4 ' diamine doped with tungsten oxide(2006) ;Hsieh, M. T. ;Chang, C. C. ;Hu, C. A. ;Huang, Y. T.Yang, S. L.We report an efficient p-type doping of NPB layer using WO(3) as a p-dopant. We find that increasing the WO(3) volume percentage can reduce the activation energy of the NPB layer and increase the hole concentration in NPB layer. As a result, the hole-injection can be improved via tunneling through a narrow depletion region due to the increasing band bending which corresponds to the difference of Fermi level position between the ITO and the NPB layer.Item type:Item, Assessment of liquefaction potential for a silty sand in Central Western Taiwan(2005) ;Huang, A. B. ;Huang, Y. T. ;Ho, F. J. ;土木工程學系Department of Civil EngineeringThe Chi Chi earthquake of September 21, 1999 triggered extensive soil liquefaction in silty sand deposits in Central Western Taiwan. The post Chi Chi earthquake studies indicated that the fines content adjustments according to the simplified procedure could cause rather inconsistent results amongst various assessment methods. The authors performed a series of cone penetration chamber calibration tests and cyclic triaxial tests on remolded Mai Liao Sand (MLS) specimens, with various fines contents and densities. The triaxial cell was equipped with bender elements and shear wave velocity (V-s) was measured prior to the cyclic shearing test. With these data, the authors were able to calibrate the correlations among CRR, cone tip resistance (q(c)) and V-s for MLS. A test site was developed in Yuan Lin County where standard penetration test (SPT), seismic piezocone and field V-s measurements were performed and low disturbance silty sand samples using a Laval sampler were taken. A series of cyclic triaxial tests were conducted on the Laval samples with V-s measurements using bender elements. These field and laboratory test results were used to validate the correlations among CRR, q(c), and V-s from calibration tests and the simplified procedure typically used in liquefaction potential assessment. This paper describes the laboratory calibration tests on MLS, results from Yuan Lin test site studies and discusses their implications in the assessment of liquefaction potential for the silty sand in this region.Item type:Item, Influence of Hydrogen on the Germanium Incorporation in a-Si1-xGex:H for Thin-Film Solar Cell Application(2010-01-01) ;Wang, C. M. ;Huang, Y. T. ;Yen, K. H. ;Hsu, H. J.Hsu, C. H.In this work, we examined the Ge incorporation and the accompanied defect formation during PECVD deposition of hydrogenated amorphous silicon-germanium alloys (a-Si1-xGex:H). In particular, we studied the effect of hydrogen on film growth, defect formation, Ge and Si incorporation efficiencies, and the H-bonding configuration. Our results indicate that hydrogen has a strong effect on improving the a-Si1-xGex:H film quality and the Ge incorporation in a-Si1-xGex:H. With adequate hydrogen dilution, the a-Si1-xGex:H thin-film quality significantly improved. However, excessive hydrogen dilution degraded the film properties. A number of analytical tools were employed, including FTIR, XPS, UV-Visible spectroscopy, photoconductivity, etc. The a-Si1-xGex:H material having 24% Ge content and a bangap of 1.61ev produced the solar cell with a conversion efficiency of 7.07%.Item type:Item, Investigation of Cat-CVD amorphous silicon film properties under high catalyzer temperature(2010) ;Yen, K. H. ;Nishizaki, S. ;Ohdaira, K. ;Matsumura, H.Huang, Y. T.In this study, we investigated the a-Si films which were deposited by Cat-CVD in the higher catalyzer temperature (T(cat)) regime. We studied the influence of high T(cat) on amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) thin-film properties. The information on a-Si-H bonding configuration was obtained by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). The film defect density was investigated by the electron spin resonance (ESR) as a function of T(cat), the distance between catalyzer and substrate (D(cs)), and the deposition pressure (P). J. ;Cheng, P. H.Wang, C. M.This paper focuses on the optimization of the absorber layers in single-junction a-Si:H and a-Si1-xGex:H solar cells. For a-Si:H thin-film solar cells, we have found the electrode-to-substrate (E/S) spacing is an important parameter. By optimizing the E/S spacing, the cell effi-ciency was improved from 7.62% to 8.70% due to an improvement in material quality and JSC. For a-Si1-xGex:H solar cells, by optimizing the Ge-content, the microstructure parameter and the graded bandgap, we were able to improve the cell efficiency to 8.15%. T. ;土木工程學系Department of Civil EngineeringThe effects of plastic or nonplastic fines on the static and cyclic strength of sand have been a subject of laboratory studies for many decades. These studies have not lead to a consensus as to how fines can affect the behavior of sand. Earlier studies have mostly been limited to tests on reconstituted specimens. Some of the controversies stem from the concerns that reconstituted specimens may not be able to duplicate the soil fabric in the field. The authors used Laval sampler to retrieve high quality samples in silty sand in Central Western Taiwan, following the procedures reported earlier. A test site was developed in Yuan Lin County where standard penetration test (SPT), seismic piezocone (SCPTU) and field V, measurements were performed in addition to Laval sampling. A series of monotonic and cyclic triaxial tests were conducted on natural and reconstituted Sand specimens. Laboratory V-s measurements were taken on the triaxial specimens using bender elements. With these data, the authors were able to evaluate the static and cyclic characteristics of YLS. This paper describes the results from Yuan Lin test site studies and discusses their implications in the assessment of liquefaction potential for the silty sand in this region.Item type:Item, Study of Crystallinity in mu c-Si: H Films Deposited by Cat-CVD for Thin Film Solar Cell Applications(2010-01-01) ;Hsu, C. H. ;Hsu, Y. P. ;Yao, F. H. ;Huang, Y. T.Tsai, C. C.The crystallinity of the hydrogenated microcrystalline silicon (mu c-Si:H) film was known to influence the solar cell efficiency greatly. Also hydrogen was found to play a critical role in controlling the crystallinity. Instead of employing conventional plasma deposition techniques, this work focused on using catalytic chemical vapor deposition (Cat-CVD) to study the effect of hydrogen dilution and the filament-to-substrate distance on the crystallinity, deposition rate, microstructure factor and electrical property of the mu c-Si: H film. We found that the substrate material and structure can affect the crystallinity of the mu c-Si: H film and the incubation effect. Comparing bare glass, TCO-coated glass, a-Si: H-coated glass and mu c-Si: H-coated glass, the microcrystalline phase grows the fastest onto mu c-Si: H surface, but the slowest onto a-Si: H surface. Surprisingly, the template effect lasted for more than a thousand atomic layers of silicon.Item type:Item, Tertiary nitrogen nitrogen removal using simultaneous partial nitrification, anammox and denitrification (SNAD) process in packed bed reactor(2017-05-01) ;Chen, W. H. ;Chiang, Y. A. ;Huang, Y. T. ;Chen, S. Y.Sung, S.The study aimed to polish wastewater effluent from an activated treatment system for nitrogen removal by a packed bed bioreactor (PBR). The nitrogen removal via simultaneous partial nitrification, anammox and denitrification (SNAD) process was investigated with different hydraulic retention times (HRTs). The results show that both effluent ammonia-and nitrate-nitrogen concentrations approached to 0 mg/L at the HRT as low as 3 h. The total nitrogen removal efficiency decreased from an average of 84% at both 18- and 24-h HRTs to 38% at 3-h HRT. This low nitrogen removal efficiency was due to the presence of incomplete degradation of organic nitrogen at shorter HRTs. The analysis using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction resolves that the ratio of ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB) to the domain Eubacteria changed limited in the range between 2.8 and 4.0% during the continuous operation. Meanwhile, the nitrite-oxidizing bacteria (NOB) increased from 0.0 to 2.9% when the HRT was gradually reduced to 3 h. The anammox bacteria accounting for 30.5% of microbial consortia dominated the AOB and the NOB at the 3-h HRT. In sum, inorganic form of nitrogen in a typical wastewater plant effluent could be efficiently polished via SNAD process in the PBR. (C) 2017 Elsevier Ltd. T. ;土木工程學系Department of Civil EngineeringThe effects of plastic or non-plastic fines on the static and cyclic strength of sand have been a subject of laboratory studies for many decades. These studies have not lead to a concensus as to how fines can affect the behavior of sand. Earlier studies have mostly been limited to tests on reconstituted specimens. Some of the controversies stem from the concerns that reconstituted specimens may not be able to duplicate the soil fabric in the field. The authors used Laval sampler to retrieve high quality samples with a wide range of fines contents in Central Western Taiwan. A test site was developed in Yuan Lin Township where standard penetration test (SPT), seismic piezocone (SCPTU) and field shear wave velocity (V-s) measurements were performed in addition to Laval sampling. A series of monotonic and cyclic triaxial tests with V-s measurements were conducted on natural and reconstituted Yuan Lin Soil (YLS) specimens with fines contents ranging from 18 to 89%. While the study confirmed some of the earlier findings which indicated that fines tend to weaken the soil specimens, the results also showed that the effects of fines may be exaggerated according to tests on reconstituted specimens.
