Item type:Item, An Investigation on 25Gb/s Ultra-Short Cavity Quantum Well Lasers Operated at Elevated Temperatures(2019-01-01) ;Tsai, Yi-Lin ;Chen, Bo-Hong ;Hsu, Shun-Chieh ;Shih, Hsiang-YunLu, Po-YenA Fabry-Perot quantum well laser with ultra-short cavity is designed and fabricated. The emission wavelength is at 1310nm band which is important for data center applications. The shortest cavity length is 25 mu m, and the laser has mW-class output with low threshold currents (4mA in average). At room temperature, an opened eye diagram with 28Gb/s transmission rate can be observed. Clear 25Gb/s eye patterns from 15 degrees C to 65 degrees C are also demonstrated.Item type:Item, An Investigation on Stable and Continuous Operation of Hybrid Perovskite Quantum Dot Light Emitting Diodes(2019-01-01) ;Cho, Yu-Yun ;Hsu, Shun-Chieh ;Huang, Yu-Ming ;Shih, Hsiang-YunLee, Ting-YuTwo different package structures of hybrid perovskite quantum dots light emitting diodes were demonstrated with stable and continuous light emission. With boron nitride nanoparticles, the lifetime of device is expected to be thousands of hours.Item type:Item, Feasibility Study for Double Luminescent Down-shifting Effect in A Dual Junction Solar Cell(2019-01-01) ;Huang, Yu-Ming ;Cho, Yu-Yun ;Hsu, Shun-Chieh ;Kao, Sheng-FengShih, Hsiang-YunIn this work, we discuss the feasibility of two color photons for boosting up the short-circuit current and power conversion efficiency in tandem solar cell. One of them is by luminescent down-shifting (LDS) effect, and the other one is the infrared light emitting diode at 820nm. The CdZnSeS/ZnS quantum dots are used in this study. It can convert ultra-violet photons to visible ones which could be efficiently transformed into electron-hole pairs. The infrared-radiation LED can increase photo-generated carriers of the bottom GaAs solar cell. Finally, short-circuit current would significantly increase from 10.46 mA/cm(2) to 13.81 mA/cm(2), and power conversion efficiency increase from 19.89 to 25.22%. This result shows the possible double-LDS effect for solar cell enhancement in the future.Item type:Item, High performance ultraviolet micro-LED arrays for fine-pitch micro displays(2019-01-01) ;Tsai, Yi-Lin ;Huang, Yu-Ming ;Yang, Shu-Mei ;Kuo, Wei-HungFang, Yen-HsiangHighly efficient ultraviolet micro LED arrays are demonstrated. Small devices (5 microns in size) suitable for high resolution (725 ppi) can be produced with low leakage current and good emission spectra stability. A 10 by 10 array is achieved with passive-matrix driving connection.Item type:Item, High Speed Directly Modulated Fabry-Perot Lasers With an Ultra-Short Cavity Length(2020-05-01) ;Tsai, Yi-Lin ;Wang, Shou-Wei ;Huang, Huang-Hsiung ;Shih, Hsiang-YunLu, Po-YenIn this study, Fabry-Perot quantum well lasers with shortened cavity designs (25 and 50 mu m) were fabricated. The devices had dry-etched and cleaved facets and exhibited an output power of up to 2.36 mW for a cavity length of 25 mu m; good spectral performance was achieved. Single-optical-mode operation with better than 25dB of side mode suppression ratio can be achieved for the fabricated devices with 25- and 50-mu m cavities. The short-cavity devices also exhibited highspeed modulation at elevated temperatures. Moreover, 25 Gb/s eye diagrams could be obtained at 65oC for the 25 mu m device and 55oC for the 50 mu m device. Due to their small area, ultra-shortcavity Fabry-Perot laser can be suitably used in next-generation light sources for optical communication.Item type:Item, Simulation Model of Oxide-Aperture Strain Quantum Well VCSEL(2019-01-01) ;Shih, Hsiang-Yun ;Cho, Yu-Yun ;Hsu, Shun-Chieh ;Huang, Yu-MingWang, Shou-WeiAn oxide aperture strained quantum well VCSEL model was built based on measured results. The indium composition of MQW was changed to maximize the frequency response. The simulation result shows that the bandwidth can be improved and reach 30.88GHz.Item type:Item, The Luminescent Down Shifting Effect of Single-Junction GaAs Solar Cell with Perovskite Quantum Dots(2019-01-01) ;Cho, Yu-Yun ;Huang, Yu -Ming ;Hsu, Shun-Chieh ;Kao, Sheng-FengShih, Hsiang-YunIn this work, we demonstrate the Luminescent Down Shifting (LDS) effect of the single-junction GaAs solar cell with 514 nm Perovskite quantum dots with and without bake treatment. One of results shows that Jsc from 22.22 mA/cm(2) to 23.38 mA/cm(2) and the efficiency from 17.70% to 18.96% as high as 5.22% and 7.12% enhancement. The enhancement includes antireflection and LDS effect, via our calculated the increase J. from LDS effect was 31.65% Further storage lifetime test shows great reliability from these devices can be expected.Item type:Item, Thermal Characteristics of the Three-Section Distributed Feedback Lasers(2019-01-01) ;Huang, Chung-Ping ;Shih, Hsiang-Yun ;Chang, Shu-Hsiu ;Hsu, Shun-ChiehCheng, Yuh-JenThree-section DFB laser was used to compare thermal effect to red shift. Measurement results showed 0.075nm/degrees C. A widely tunable single radio frequency (RF) signal can be detected using optical heterodyning, and the tuning range is from 2 to 45 GHz. The incorporation of the third section provides an opportunity to present the dual RF operation when three emission peaks are near to each other in the wavelength domain. The proposed design provides a 21.3% enhancement in the RF tuning range compared with the range of a two-section laser (35.29 GHz versus 42.81 GHz). The compactness of the proposed device can be useful for future radio-over-fiber applications.
