Item type:Item, A Comparison Analysis between Manufacturing & Service Approaches in the Medical Device Industry(2016-01-01) ;Lin, Kuan-Chung ;Hsueh, Rui-Teng ;Shyu, Joseph Z. ;科技管理研究所Institute of Management of TechnologyMedical device industry is an industry with obviously interdisciplinary characteristics and suitable for manufacturing and service approaches study. A manufacturing approach of industrial portfolio model, and a service approach of HS (innovation intensive service) platform model are used as analytical tools for industrial innovation. From the perspective of manufacturing side, an industry portfolio has been conducted and it consists of two dimensions industrial value chain and technology life cycle. On the other side, the LIS platform has been considered with innovation strategies, externalities and value activities. This research focuses on the industry level of policy making for medical device industry development in oncoming years of Taiwan. The result reveals that the industrial innovation requirements of "Market Information", "Management Skills" and "Financial Resources" should be emphasized for Taiwan's medical device manufacturing. This research also indicates that "connectivity", "receiver competence" and "Nature of Knowledge and Spillover Mechanisms" in the dimension of technological system will he essential; meanwhile, "Factor Conditions", "Demand Conditions" and "Firm Strategy, Structure, and Rivalry" in the dimension of industrial environment arc indispensable. Not only does the conclusion provide a mechanistic comparison of manufacturing and service approaches, it also allows strategic suggestion of resource allocation for medical device industrial development.Item type:Item, A Cross-Strait Comparison of Innovation Policy under Industry 4.0 and Sustainability Development Transition(2017-05-01) ;Lin, Kuan Chung ;Shyu, Joseph Z. ;Ding, Kun ;科技管理研究所Institute of Management of TechnologyWhile the advent of Industry 4.0 is emblematic of national strategy for industrial revitalization, the proliferation of technology has drastically changed the landscape of many major sectors of global industries. Industry 4.0 encompasses multi-dimensional concepts-including computerization, digitization, and intelligentization-of business operations based on cyber-physical-systems (CPS) and the Internet-of-Things (IoTs). The vision of Industry 4.0 will bring about improvements in industrial processes, ranging from engineering, material usage, supply chains, and product lifecycle management, to the horizontal value chain. This research project adopts a descriptive analysis with descriptive statistics under the innovation policy framework proposed by Rothwell and Zegveld. This report also informs a comparative policy analysis across China and Taiwan. From the perspectives of industry coalition and competition, this cross-strait comparison lends itself to being a policy-making reference. Results reveal that China, in terms of policy-making, concentrates on 'political' and 'legal/regulatory' aspects of environmental policy, as well as the theme of 'public service' of the demand-side policy. Taiwan also emphasizes the 'environmental-side' policy like China, whereas Taiwan focuses more on 'education/training' of the supply-side policy.Item type:Item, A Diffusion Model to Growth Phase Forecasting of 3G Industry in Taiwan(2008) ;Lin, Chen-Chun ;Tang, Ying-Hwa ;Shyu, Joseph Z. ;Li, Yi-Ming科技管理研究所This study provides a system dynamics approach on the foundation of BASS diffusion model and constructing model upon the 3G adoption critical factor in the viewpoint of new product development. Particularly, an empirical competition case between Southern and Central Taiwan Science Park (STSP and CTSP) will be adopted in this study to demonstrate the validity of the dynamic approach. The results reveal that the competitive relationship between STSP and CSTP may be a predator-prey interaction type. The existence of STSP and its investment growth will be a positive assistance for developing the latter CTSP area. Contrarily, the growth of CTSP will probably compete with the resource of STSP and inhibit the sustained growth of STSP. In addition, there do not exist an equilibrium point in the competition relationship of these two clusters recently, which the STSP and CTSP area could coexist with a sustained growth in this current short-term stage.Item type:Item, A model analysis of industrial specialization for innovation intensive service: Case of Telematies service industry(2008) ;Yang, Chia-Han ;Chen, Jou-Chen ;Shyu, Joseph Z. ;科技管理研究所Institute of Management of TechnologyThis research focuses on analyzing the specialization models of service industry. Particularly, a correlation between innovation types and specialization strategies will be constructed for the analysis of industrial specialization enabled by the IIS (innovation intensive service) platform model. A case study of Taiwan's Telematics service industry is also used in this research to demonstrate the validity of this specialization model. The IIS platform framework depicts the inter-linkages among six innovation types and eight specialization strategies in accordance with the requirements of value activities and externalities. This model connects firm's core competence, value activities, externalities, and specialization strategy, allowing analysis of needed integration of value activities and externalities based on pre-determined specialization strategy. Results of the empirical study reveal that the optimal specialization strategies of Taiwan's Telematics service industry is the marketing brand & channels specialization based on market innovation, and the network & platform operations specialization based on structural innovation.Item type:Item, A strategic analysis of industrial specialization for new business model of IC design services(2008) ;Yang, Chia-han ;Chen, Chih-Jen ;Shyu, Joseph Z. ;交大名義發表National Chiao Tung UniversityThis research focuses on analyzing the specialization models of emergent high-tech service industry. Particularly, a correlation among six innovation types and eight specialization strategies will be constructed for the analysis of industrial specialization enabled by the service platform model. A new business model of IC design services is also used in this research to demonstrate the validity of this specialization model. Results of the empirical study reveal that the optimal specialization direction for developing Taiwan' s IC design service industry is "marketing brand & channels specialization based on structural innovation", "market diversity specialization based on R&D investment innovation" and "financial strength & investment specialization based on market innovation" with the support of value activities including design, marketing and after service as well as externalities of complementary assets, market and other users.Item type:Item, A Strategic Overview of Blockchain Applications in the Healthcare(2018-01-01) ;Tang, De-long ;Liao, Si-ai ;Ding, Kun ;Shyu, Joseph Z.交大名義發表This thesis focuses on the firm in blockchain applications in healthcare industry and includes a review of the research of blockchain applications in healthcare and market dynamics. However, perfect information security management requires certain factors for complete success. This study aims to collect Key Success Factors (KSFs) for information security management through literature review and design of a questionnaire survey. This comprises four major aspects: (1) External dimension, (2) Internal dimension, (3) Technology dimension, and (4) Execution dimension. Based on these, we proceed with categorization and analysis using Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (Fuzzy AHP or FAHP), which was applied to this study to overcome the seeming failure of general Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) in dealing with respondents' impersonal differences in paired comparison. The ordered ranking of objectives under each aspect is: system, human resource, security function, organization, performance, operation, market, and legislation. The results sifted from the FAHP approach suggest five top key success factors: "Training Plan", "MIS Staffing", "System Structure", "Regulation", and "Maintain Service".Item type:Item, Applying Fuzzy AHP to Study the KSFs of Information Security Management(2011-01-01) ;Wang, Jen-Sheng ;Liu, Che-Hung ;Shyu, Joseph Z. ;Huang, Hsiao-Wen科技管理研究所The launch of the digital era has made information security management a most significant and critical issue. This research applies Fuzzy and AHP theories to survey ITRI's technology transfer strategies over the past three decades and to analyze the future strategy for technology transfer. The authors conclude that a new pattern of technology transfer strategies has served as a means for more balanced innovative capabilities among sectors. Furthermore, the IP business and spin-offs are the most important strategies for future technology transfer when Taiwan evolves toward knowledge economy era. In addition, an open innovation model for future technology transfer is proposed and discussed in this paper.Item type:Item, Configuring the Knowledge Diffusion Policy Portfolio of Higher Education Institutes(2017-08-01) ;Chen, Jou-Chen ;Shyu, Joseph Z. ;Huang, Chi-Yo ;交大名義發表National Chiao Tung UniversityThe research proposes an analytic framework to configure the policy portfolio for diffusing knowledge embedded in higher-education institutes. A modified Delphi method was first proposed to derive the key factors for enabling and enhancing the diffusion mechanism. The influence relationships between these factors were derived using the Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL). The analytic network process (ANP) derived weights associated with the key factors. Finally, the Grey Relational Analysis (GRA) was used to derive the policy instruments based on the Grey Relationships between the key factors and the policy instruments. An empirical study based on Taiwanese higher-education institutes also/then verified the feasibility of the proposed analytic framework. These findings suggest that research and development activities, publications, and networks of academic exchange play primary roles in knowledge diffusion in higher-education institutions. Motivation, human resources, and investment are the most important policy instruments to use for improving knowledge diffusion in the higher-education system.Item type:Item, Cross-national and cross-industrial comparison of two strategy approaches for global industrial evolution(2009-01-01) ;Yang, Chia-Han ;Shyu, Joseph Z. ;科技管理研究所Institute of Management of TechnologyThis research focuses on analyzing the two prime science and technology (S&T) strategy approaches for industrial evolution based on the concept of S&T gap, namely, the optimist and pragmatist approaches. Particularly. the cases of global IC, pharmaceutical, and computer industries, are used to make cross-national and cross-industrial comparison of these two approaches. The optimist approach is developed based on the product life cycle theory which envisions technology transcending everyday limitations. With this perspective, market demand is the most critical factor in selecting the S&T strategy approaches. The pragmatist approach is formed based on the new trade theory which recognizes the power of science and technology but seeks to fit it into structures that already exist, and government must manage resources pouring into science and technology. Case studies of global IC, pharmaceutical, and computer industries during the 2nd half of the 20th century are used as research targets to reflect policy impacts on the technological evolution. The results of this study reveal that, strategy approaches have to be adapted and turned to the specific stage, technology level, and market segment that have been selected for intervention. This result of comparison also offers the criteria of strategy selection for developing different industry based on distinct national base. (C) 2008 Elsevier Inc. As a social capital for innovations, crowdfunding has led to the creations of new funding models and business logic for startups. Currently, the major types of crowdfunding models encompass rewards, donation, equity, and debt/leading models. The boom of crowdfunding could be attributed to the emergence of the collaborative economy. Despite its popularity in practice, crowdfunding needs further academic research to fill its research gap. Hence, this paper conducts a cross-national comparison of the equity crowdfunding mechanisms and focuses on regulatory environments by analyzing several equity crowdfunding platforms respectively in the U.S., the U.K., Israel, China, and Taiwan. Through secondary qualitative study, the result reveals that three of the five countries we study (the U.K., Israel, and Taiwan) authenticate the equity crowdfunding to the general public whereas this type of investment is still limited only to accredited investors in the U.S. and China. It is concluded that equity crowdfunding is an alternative capital raising model that will grow and is beneficial for social innovation in the future.Item type:Item, Evaluating and selecting the biometrics in network security(2015-03-25) ;Liu, Che-Hung ;Wang, Jen-Sheng ;Peng, Chih-Chiang ;Shyu, Joseph Z.科技管理研究所Since Apple merged with AuthenTec, a leading fingerprint recognition company, in 2012, biometrics has widely been considered to strengthen security and privacy in the network security field. Although biometrics has been applied in specific areas for decades, it has gradually proliferated in customer and mobile electronic products to enhance security and privacy. This study aims to evaluate biometrics through conventional technology assessment considerations combined with viewpoints on the specifics of biometric technologies and then to provide suggestions for selection. To conduct the biometric technology assessment, the fuzzy analytic hierarchy process and non-fuzzy best performance approaches are used. Although the outcomes first indicate that technology assessment should be the key object in selecting biometric technologies, that object is followed by biometric competence and key elements of biometrics. The outcomes also indicate that features of the target technologies should be considered when evaluating them. Additionally, fingerprint recognition, iris recognition, and face recognition are the preferred biometrics in evaluation and selection. Copyright (c) 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
