Item type:Item, 210-km Bidirectional transmission system with a novel four-port interleaver to facilitate unidirectional amplification(2006-01-01) ;Huang, MF ;Chen, J ;Feng, KM ;Wei, CCLai, CYA novel bidirectional transmission system is proposed and experimentally demonstrated using a four-port interleaver to enable unidirectional amplification. Following bidirectional transmission through 210 km of standard single-mode fibers, sensitivity variations of less than 0.2 dB, with a bit-error rate level of 10(-9) at 10 Gb/s, were observed between bidirectional and unidirectional transmissions.Item type:Item, Critical length of electromigration for eutectic SnPb solder stripe(2006-05-01) ;Wei, CC ;Chen, C ;材料科學與工程學系Department of Materials Science and EngineeringThe critical length of eutectic SnPb solder was investigated using solder stripes. By employing focus ion beam, solder stripes of various lengths, including 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 100, and 200 mu m, can be fabricated. Length-dependent electromigration behavior was observed, which implies that there may be back stress under stressing. The critical length was determined to be between 10 and 15 mu m under stressing by 2x10(4) A/cm(2) at 100 degrees C, and the corresponding critical product was between 20 and 30 A/cm. Both values show good agreement with their theoretical values. Simulation and experimental results confirm that the predicted performance is enhanced. Using the proposed scheme improves rise time by over 300 %, reduces timing jitter by 50 %, and increases extinction ratio by 9 %.Item type:Item, Improved SPM tolerance and cost-effective phase-modulation duobinary transmission over 230-km standard single-mode fiber using a single Mach-Zehnder modulator(2005-12-01) ;Lu, YC ;Chen, J ;Feng, KM ;Yeh, PCHuang, TYThis letter proposes and experimentally demonstrates a cost-effective phase-modulation duobinary modulation scheme for improving self-phase modulation tolerance using a single modulator. Successful transmission over 230 km of standard single-mode fiber was achieved.Item type:Item, Metro add-drop network applications of cascaded dispersion-compensated interleaver pairs using a recirculating loop(2005-06-01) ;Feng, KM ;Huang, MF ;Wei, CC ;Lai, CYLin, TYA 50-GHz channel spaced dispersion-compensated interleaver pair for a metro add-drop network application was demonstrated using a recirculating loop. After five cascaded nodes (ten interleavers), a 2.5-dB sensitivity differential at bit-error-rate level around 10(-9) was observed between the compensated and uncompensated pairs within a +/- 10-GHz detuning frequency window.Item type:Item, Small perturbation analysis of diffracted holographic gratings(1996-04-15) ;Hwang, RB ;Wei, CC ;電信工程研究所Institute of Communications EngineeringPlane-wave scattering by a holographic grating is presented. The grating layer can be considered as a perturbation imposed on the uniform medium. Based on the perturbation analysis, this perturbation becomes the source of a diffraction wave and the boundary-value problem can be translated into the equivalent transmission-line equations with distributed current source; therefore, the Green function technique is utilized here to calculate the fields in the grating layer. The numerical examples are carefully compared and found to agree quite well with exact results obtained by rigorous treatment.Item type:Item, Small perturbation analysis of diffracted holographic gratings(1996-04-15) ;Hwang, RB ;Wei, CC ;電信工程研究所Institute of Communications EngineeringPlane-wave scattering by a holographic grating is presented. Considering the electrocardiogram (ECG) and blood pressure wave (BPW) as the input and output signals of the system, we aim to quantify the spectral behavior of blood circulation from the viewpoint of resonance. First, the power spectrum of the ECG coincides well with that of the BPW for healthy subjects, but deviates significantly front the BPW's for vascular patients. Second, bispectral analysis demonstrates a strong phase coupling between ECG and BPW in healthy Subjects and a weaker coupling for subjects with vascular problems. Third, the transfer function for healthy subjects exhibits a flatter magnitude than that for patients. In addition, we propose a resonance circuit model of the spectral domain to represent blood circulation. The quality factor also exhibits better resonance characteristics for the healthy group than for the patient group.Item type:Item, Study of differential cross-polarization modulation in a semiconductor optical amplifier(2005-10-17) ;Wei, CC ;Chen, J ;光電工程學系Department of PhotonicsDifferential cross-polarization modulation (DXPoM) wavelength conversion using a semiconductor optical amplifier has been proposed to outperform substantially traditional cross-polarization modulation (XPoM). This work presents analytical small-signal models of XPoM and DXPoM. The transfer function of DXPoM is used to elucidate the significant improvement in bandwidth and the relationships among the modulation bandwidth, the delay, the operating points and other device parameters of a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA). The coherent oscillation between the driving signal and the vibration of the cardiovascular system is investigated by coherence function and the perturbations of the system are found. In addition, we develop a mathematical equation to describe the phenomenon. The average peak coherence value S for the first live harmonics is utilized as an index to quantify the power coherence effect. The evaluated p-value (< 0.01) reveals that the distinction of power coherence between the healthy subjects and cardiovascular patients is significant. Consequently, we conclude that if the S approaches a value close to one, the output is almost completely attributed to input and fewer perturbation signals influence the system: therefore, the cardiovascular system stays in a better condition. Conversely, if S approaches a value less than one, larger perturbations will worsen the cardiovascular system condition.Item type:Item, Using a novel four-port interleaver to enable unidirectional amplification in a 210-km bidirectional transmission system(2005) ;Huang, MF ;Lai, CY ;Chen, J ;Feng, KMWei, CCWe proposed and experimentally demonstrated a bidirectional transmission system by using a novel four-port inlerleaver to enable unidirectional amplification. After 210-km transmission. less than 0.2-dB sensitivity variations were observed between bidirectional and unidirectional transmissions.Item type:Item, Wavelength-interleaving bidirectional transmission system using unidirectional amplification in a 5 x 100 km recirculating loop(2006-05-01) ;Huang, MF ;Feng, KM ;Chen, JJ ;Lin, TYWei, CCThis investigation presents a novel 50-GHz interleaved bidirectional transmission system with eight wavelengths that uses four-port interleavers in a bidirectional recirculating loop. This bidirectional configuration shares optical components in the fiber network and an interleaver is utilized to enable unidirectional amplification in an erbium-doped fiber amplifier to block noise associated with Rayleigh backscattering. After bidirectional transmission through 500-km LEAF fibers in the recirculating loop, power penalties of less than 2.5 dB, were achieved at 10 Gb/s for all channels.
