Item type:Item, Channel graphs of bit permutation networks(2001-07-28) ;Tong, LD ;Wang, FK ;Chang, GJ ;應用數學系Department of Applied MathematicsChannel graphs have been widely used in the study of blocking networks. In this paper, we show that a bit pen-nutation network has a unique channel graph if and only if it is connected, and two connected bit pen-nutation networks are isomorphic if and only if their channel graphs are isomorphic. It was found that the field-emission process dominates the leakage conduction of the device with the conventional structure as the field strength in the drain junction becomes high, and results in the strong gate-induced drain leakage (GIDL) like phenomenon. In contrast, for the device with a field-induced-drain structure, the high-field region is pulled away from the silicided drain. As a result, the field-emission conduction is eliminated, so the GIDL-like leakage current is effectively suppressed. Two thermal-treatment-induced deep levels were observed in the samples thermal-treated above 500 degreesC and shall be attributed to the generation of phosphorus vacancies (V-p) by evaporation of phosphorus from AlInP surface. Examination of these deep levels provided a relatively simple means of understanding the thermal-treatment-induced behavior, thus allowing us to determine an appropriate process for manufacturing AlInP-based products.Item type:Item, 劍橋之柳(外一首)(2001-08-01)管管Item type:Item, Visualization of roll patterns in Rayleigh-Benard convection of air in a rectangular shallow cavity(2001-08-01) ;Lir, JT ;Lin, TF ;機械工程學系Department of Mechanical EngineeringFlow visualization is conducted here to study the vortex flow patterns associated with the Rayleigh-Benard convection in a horizontal shallow cavity of air. The cavity is a rectangular enclosure characterized by the aspect ratios A(x) = 16 and A(z) = 20. Attention is focused on the convection rolls driven at slightly supercritical and subcritical buoyancies. The results show that at slightly subcritical Ra the induced vortex flow is in the form of rectangular rolls along the cavity sides and short straight parallel rolls in the cavity core. At slightly higher Ra near Ra-c proportional to (= 1708) more rectangular rolls appear and the short straight rolls in the cavity core merge together to form a serpentine roll. At slightly supercritical buoyancy with 2000 less than or equal to Ra less than or equal to 3000 the entire cavity is filled with the straight rolls all parallel to the short sides of the cavity. At an even higher Ra of 4000 the vortex rolls become irregular and time dependent. Moreover, the processes through which various vortex flow structures evolve during the transient stage are shown to be rather complicate and the vortex flow patterns during the how formation are significantly affected by the heating rate in raising the buoyancy force. Furthermore, the wavenumber reduction at higher Ra for the parallel vortex roll pattern was noted to mainly result from the splitting of some rectangular rolls into cells and the subsequent merging of the cells into bigger rolls at the intermediate stage of the flow formation. The Si1-xGex RSD layer was selectively grown by ANELVA. SRE-612 ultra-high vacuum chemical vapor deposition (UHVCVD) system, Compared to devices with conventional Si RSD, improved transconductance and specific contact resistance were obtained, and these improvements become even more dramatic with reducing channel length, Well-behaved short channel characteristics with reduced drain-induced barrier lowering (DIBL) and off-state leakage current are demonstrated on devices with 100 nm Si1-xGex RSD, due to the resultant shallow junction and less implantation damage. Moreover, temperature measurements reveal that Si1-xGex RSD devices show more dramatic improvement in device performance at low temperature (-50 degreesC) operation, which can be ascribed to the higher temperature sensitivity of the Si1-xGex sheet resistance.Item type:Item, 管管作品四首(2001-08-01)管管Item type:Item, The enhancement of nitrogen incorporation in RTN2O annealed TEOS oxide fabricated on disilane-based polysilicon films(2001-08-01) ;Lee, JW ;Chen, WD ;Lei, TF ;Lee, CL電子工程學系及電子研究所Disilane-based stacked structures were first proposed to demonstrate that the nitrogen incorporation was enhanced in the RTN2O annealed tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS) oxide fabricated on disilane-based polysilicon films. Compared with the oxide fabricated on the silane-based polysilicon film, the nitrogen incorporation in the disilane-based oxides is six times higher. To study the nitrogen incorporation effects on the RTN2O annealed TEOS oxides, the disilane-based polysilicon stacked on the silane-based polysilicon film structure was proposed. We found that the oxide quality was largely improved by the same surface morphology of bottom polysilicon films. We think the this approach could be used in fabricating dynamic random access memory (DRAM) to have better data retention characteristics and to improve the reliability of DRAM and flash memory devices. Gene encoding, fitness landscape and genetic operations are vital to successfully developing a GA. Cheong and Lai(1) described a novel method, which employed an enhanced genetic algorithm with multiple populations, to optimize a fuzzy controller, and the experimental results revealed that their method was effective in producing a well-formed fuzzy rule-base. However, their encoding method and fitness function appear unnatural and inefficient. This study proposes an alternative method of concise genetic encoding and fitness design.Item type:Item, Beam-propagation-dominant instability in an axially pumped solid-state laser near degenerate resonator configurations(2001-08-01) ;Chen, CH ;Wei, MD ;Hsieh, WF ;光電工程學系Department of PhotonicsPropagation-dominant instabilities and chaos were found under so-called good-cavity conditions in an axially pumped solid-state laser operated near the 1/3-degenerate cavity configuration that had not previously been studied numerically. By using the generalized Huygens integral together with rate equations, we obtained a V-shaped configuration that depends on a quasi-periodic threshold. We call the propagation dominant because the laser behaves as a conservative system governed by beam propagation. Although it had previously been predicted that chaos would be impossible under nearly degenerate conditions, we have recognized that the laser is transformed into chaos as a result of the interplay of beam propagation and gain dynamics as the cavity is tuned close to degeneracy. Fuzzy classification Systems are capable of handling perceptual uncertainties, such as the vagueness and ambiguity involved in classification problems. The most important task to accomplish a fuzzy classification system is to rnd a set of fuzzy rules suitable for a specific classification problem. In this article, we present a new method for generating fuzzy rules from numerical data for handling fuzzy classification problems based on the fuzzy subsethood values between decisions to be made and terms of attributes by using the level threshold value alpha and the applicability threshold value beta, where alpha is an element of [0, 1] and beta is an element of [0, 1]. We apply the proposed method to deal with the "Saturday Morning Problem,'' where the proposed method has a higher classification accuracy rate and generates fewer fuzzy rules than the existing methods.Item type:Item, A networked peer assessment system based on a Vee heuristic(2001-08-01) ;Tsai, CC ;Liu, EZF ;Lin, SSJ ;Yuan, SM師資培育中心This study implements a networked peer assessment system based on the use of a Vee heuristic. Using this system, students submit their homework (relating to designing science activities) via the underlying network facility. They then assess each other's homework by offering suggestions - again, through the network. Students then modify their original designs based on the suggestions that they receive. This procedure is repeated for two or three consecutive rounds. In this process, each student functions as an author, a reviewer, and an adapter. This learning model allows students to further develop their critical thinking skills. Preliminary peer assessment results revealed that the networked peer-assessment model and Vee heuristic facilitated pre-service science teachers to continuously progress when designing science activities.Item type:Item, Web-based peer review: The learner as both adapter and reviewer(2001-08-01) ;Liu, EZF ;Lin, SSJ ;Chiu, CH ;Yuan, SM師資培育中心This study describes an effective web-based learning strategy, peer review, used by 143 computer science undergraduate students in an Operating Systems class at a Taiwanese university. Peer review, based on social constructivism, can be easily implemented via the authors' well-developed web-based peer review (WPR) system. Through peer review, the authors hope to form an authentic learning environment similar to an academic society in which a researcher submits a paper to a journal and receives reviews from society members before publication. Students using this learning strategy are expected to develop higher level thinking skills. The WPR system functioned in the following roles in this study: 1) an information distribution channel and management center for assignment submissions and peer review; 2) a forum for peer interaction and knowledge construction; and 3) storage for knowledge construction procedures. An evaluation of learning effects and students' perceptions about peer review during the spring of 1998 revealed that students not only performed better under peer review, but also displayed higher level thinking skills, i.e., critical thinking, planning, monitoring, and regulation. Students perceived peer review as an effective strategy that promoted their learning motivation. However, merely being an effective reviewer or an effective author may not excel in a peer review environment. The most effective individual appears to be the strategic adapter who effectively constructs a project, adjusts to peers' comments, and serves as a critical reviewer as well.Item type:Item, Cross-reference maximum likelihood reconstruction for positron emission tomography with empiric studies(2001-08-01) ;Chen, J ;Tu, K ;Chen, T ;Lu, HLiu, RItem type:Item, A diode-pumped high power Q-switched and self-mode-locked Nd : YVO4 laser with a LiF : F-2(-) saturable absorber(2001-08-01) ;Chen, YF ;Tsai, SW ;Wang, SC ;Chen, J電子物理學系Simultaneous mode-locking and Q-switching has been accomplished in a diode-pumped Nd:YVO4/LiF:F-2(-) laser. At an absorbed pump power of 23.6 W, the average output power was 6.0W and the repetition rate of the Q-switched pulse was 260 kHz. A depth of mode-locking of 100% was obtained and there was no satellite pulse between mode-locked pulse trains. The mode-locked pulse inside the Q-switched pulse had a repetition rate of approximately 148 MHz and its average duration was estimated to be around 75 ps.
