Relic density of dark matter in brane world cosmology

We investigate the thermal relic density of cold dark matter in the context of brane world cosmology. Since the expansion law in a high energy regime is modified from the one in the standard cosmology, if the dark matter decouples in such a high energy regime its relic number density is affected by this modified expansion law. We derive analytic formulas for the number density of dark matter. It is found that the resultant relic density is characterized by the "transition temperature" at which the modified expansion law in brane world cosmology is connecting with the standard one, and can be considerably enhanced compared to that in the standard cosmology, if the transition temperature is low enough.
Design of quasi-elliptic function filters with a dual-passband response

Compact miniaturized hairpin resonators are used to design cross-coupled filters with a dual-passband response of elliptic function type. The hairpin resonators are treated as a stepped impedance resonator (SIR) in analysis. In a filter, two different hairpin resonators are used to establish proper couplings required for the two design frequencies. Two filters are fabricated and measured. The results show a good agreement with the simulation.

Low temperature MOSFET technology with Schottky barrier source/drain, high-K gate dielectric and metal gate electrode

Both P- and N-channel MOSFET's with Schottky barrier silicide source/drain (S/D), high-K gate dielectric and metal gate were successfully fabricated using a simplified low temperature process. The highest temperature after the high-K dielectric formation is 420degreesC. PMOSFETs with PtSi S/D show excellent electrical performance of an I-on/I-off similar to 10(7)-10(8) and a subthreshold slope of 66 mV/dec, similar to those formed by a normal process with an optimized sidewall spacer. NMOSFETs with DySi2-x S/D have similar to3 orders of magnitude larger I-off than that of PMOSFETs and show two slopes in the subthreshold region, resulting in the I-on/I-off similar to 10(5) at low drain voltage. It can be attributed to the relatively higher barrier height (Phi(n)) of DySi2-x/n-Si than that of PtSi/p-Si (Phi(p)) and the rougher DySi2-x film. Adding a thin intermediate Ge layer (similar to1nm) between Dy and Si can improve the film morphology significantly. As a result, the improved performance of N-MOSFET is observed. A self-growing probabilistic decision-based neural network with automatic data clustering

In this paper, we propose a new clustering algorithm for a mixture of Gaussian-based neural network and self-growing probabilistic decision-based neural networks (SPDNN). The proposed self-growing cluster learning (SGCL) algorithm is able to find the natural number of prototypes based on a self-growing validity measure, Bayesian information criterion (BIC). The learning process starts from a single prototype randomly initialized in the feature space and grows adaptively during the learning process until most appropriate number of prototypes are found. We have conducted numerical and real-world experiments to demonstrate the effectiveness of the SGCL algorithm. In the results of using SGCL to train the SPDNN for data clustering and speaker identification problems, we have observed a noticeable improvement among various model-based or vector quantization-based classification schemes. In this note, we prove that a graph is of class one if G can be embedded in a surface with positive characteristic and satisfies one of the following conditions: (i) Delta(G) greater than or equal to 3 and g(G) (the girth of G) greater than or equal to 8 (ii) Delta(G) greater than or equal to 4 and g(G) greater than or equal to 5; and (iii) Delta(G) greater than or equal to 5 and g(G) greater than or equal to 4.

Tumor necrosis factor-alpha-308 promoter and p53 codon 72 gene polymorphisms in women with leiomyomas

Objective: Tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), a proinflammatory cytokine, plays an important role in the process of autoimmune diseases. p53 is related to the regulation of cell growth and prevention of carcinogenesis. We propose to investigate whether gene polymorphisms for TNF-alpha-308 promoter and p53 could be used as markers of susceptibility in leiomyomas. Design: Prospective basic study. Setting: Departments of gynecology and genetics in a medical center. Patient(s): Group 1: leiomyoma (n = 159); group 2: non-leiomyoma (n = 13 1). Intervention(s): Genomic DNA was obtained from peripheral leukocyte. The TNF-alpha and p53 gene polymorphisms were amplified by polymerase chain reaction (PCR), enzyme restriction, and electrophoresis. Main Outcome Measure(s): Two gene polymorphisms were identified: [1] the A (cuttable)/G (uncuttable) polymorphisms of the TNF-alpha gene on chromosome 6p2l.3; [2] A (cuttable)/P (uncuttable) polymorphisms of the p53 gene on chromosome 17p. Genotype and allelic frequencies in both groups were compared. Result(s): Genotype distribution and allele frequency of TNF-a gene polymorphism in both groups were significantly different. Proportions of A homozygote/heterozygote/G homozygote for TNF-alpha in both groups were: (group 1) 61%/34.6%/4.4% and (group 2) 81.7%/14.5%/3.8%. Proportions of allele A/G for TNF-alpha in both groups were: (group 1) 78.3%/21.7% and (group 2) 88.9%/11.1%. Distributions of p53 polymorphisms in both groups were not different. The proportions of A homozygotes/heterozygotes/P homozygotes for p53 were (group 1) 32.7%/42.1%/25.2% and (group 2) 28.2%/48.9%/22.9%. Conclusion(s): G homozygote and G allele for TNF-alpha promoter are related to a higher risk of leiomyomas. The p53 codon 72 gene polymorphism is not associated with the susceptibility of leiomyomas. A hybrid routing method for multi-hop wireless local area networks

A multi-hop wireless local area network (LAN) is an adhoc wireless network that connects to the Internet backbone via an access point. Routing paths between mobile hosts and a fixed host can be divided into two sub-paths, wireless and wired. In this paper, we apply the Hierarchical Routing Tree (HRT) concept to finding wireless sub-paths. That is, by constructing an HRT. each mobile host can find a routing path to an access point (i.e.. the HRT root) quickly and thus gain the access to Internet. In addition, we choose the Ad-hoc On-demand Distance Vector (AODV) routing protocol as a point-to-point routing method for sources and destinations located in the same ad-hoc network in order to improve upon a weakness in the HRT method. Numerical experiments are given to show the effectiveness of the hybrid routing method.
人力資源管理制度之執行－四大產業之實證研究

優秀的人力資源是企業營運的重要因素之一，健全的人力資源管理制度更是企業具競爭力且永續經營的不二法門。製造業中的兩大產業－資訊電子工業及機械工業（91年1月至11月之生產總價值分別為2662793百萬元及330108百萬元）；服務業中的兩大產業－通訊業及銀行業（91年前三季之生產毛額分別為204764百萬元及182893百萬元），由其生產價值之高，可見該四大產業對台灣經濟之影響是具舉足輕重的。因此，本文分別提出資訊電子工業、機械工業、通訊業、銀行業等四大產業執行人力資源管理時之重要制度，俾可提供該四大產業之公司從事人力資源的規劃與管理，並調查該四大產業對各項人力資源管理制度之重視程度、滿意程度，及分析各人力資源管理制度被執行的結果是否具顯著差距，俾可分別提供各產業中的公司瞭解其執行人力資源管理之情形，甚而修正、改善公司的人力資源管理內涵與政策。以各項人口統計變數（如：性別、年齡、教育程度、職位、薪資等）與本研究所建構出來的人力資源管理制度間的關聯性分析，可以提供不同產業中不同的人力資源應著重於何種人力資源管理制度，而達到不同性質的人力資源於其企業內可以發揮最佳之效益。
On-chip ESD protection design with substrate-triggered technique for mixed-voltage I/O circuits in subquarter-micrometer CMOS process

A new electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection design, by using the substrate-triggered stacked-nMOS device, is proposed to protect the mixed-voltage I/O circuits of CMOS ICs. The substrate-triggered technique is applied to lower the trigger voltage of the stacked-nMOS device to ensure effective ESD protection for the mixed-voltage I/O circuits. The proposed ESD protection circuit with the substrate-triggered technique is fully compatible to general CMOS process without causing the gate-oxide reliability problem. Without using the thick gate oxide, the new proposed design has been fabricated and verified for 2.5/3.3-V tolerant mixed-voltage I/O circuit in a 0.25-mum salicided CMOS process. The experimental results have confirmed that the human-body-model ESD level of the mixed-voltage I/O buffers can be successfully improved from the original 3.4 to 5.6 kV by using this new proposed ESD protection circuit.

Efficient key distribution schemes for secure media delivery in pay-TV systems

To provide secure media delivery in pay-TV systems, a large number of messages are exchanged for key updates in the conventional key distribution schemes. This is inefficient and costly when the client side (set-top box) uses a smart card with limited computing power. In this paper, we present three key distribution schemes for channel protection and secure media delivery in pay-TV systems. With the proposed schemes, encryption keys of the subscribed programs can be efficiently and securely distributed to the authorized subscribers. Only one message is needed to renew key in the key distribution schemes for subscription channel protection. In addition, we use simpler computation functions, including one-way hash function and exclusive-OR operation, for key updates to reduce the computation cost. With our key distribution schemes, only authorized subscribers can watch the subscribed programs correctly. Unauthorized subscribers have no information to retrieve the correct programs over the networks. Thus, service providers can charge their subscribers according to their subscriptions, and the illegal access of the media and video programs from networks can be prevented, based on the proposed schemes.

Supercooled vortex liquid and quantitative theory of melting of the flux-line lattice in type-II superconductors

A metastable homogeneous state exists down to zero temperature in systems of repelling vortices. A zero- "fluctuation-temperature" liquid state therefore serves as a (pseudo) "fixed point" controlling the properties of vortex liquid below and even around melting point. Based on this picture for the vortex phase we apply the Borel-Pade resummation technique to develop a quantitative theory of the vortex liquid for the lowest-Landau-level Ginzburg-Landau model in type-II superconductors. While on the solid phase, there exists a superheat solid phase which ends at the spinodal line. The picture for the vortex phase is supported by an exactly solvable large N Ginzburg-Landau model in a magnetic field and has been recently confirmed by the experiments. The applicability of the lowest-Landau-level model is discussed and corrections due to higher levels are calculated. The melting line is located based on the quantitative theory for the description of the vortex solid and the vortex liquid. Magnetization, entropy, and specific heat jumps along the melting line are calculated. The theoretical results explain quantitatively very well the experimental data on the high-T-c cuprates YBa2Cu3O7, DyBCO, low-T-c material (K, Ba) BiO3, and also Monte Carlo simulation results.

As in the predecessor [Numerical range of a normal compression, Linear and Multilinear Algebra, in press] of this paper, we consider properties of matrices of the form V*NV, where N = diag(a(1),..., a(n+1)) is a diagonal matrix with distinct eigenvalues a(j)s such that each of them is a corner of the convex hull they generate, and V is an (n + 1)-by-n matrix with V*V = I-n such that any nonzero vector orthogonal to the range space of V has all its components nonzero. We obtain that such a matrix A is determined by its eigenvalues up to unitary equivalence, is irreducible and cyclic, and the boundary of its numerical range is a differentiable curve which contains no line segment. We also consider the condition for the existence of another matrix of the above type which dilates to A such that their numerical ranges share some common points with the boundary of the (n + 1)-gon a(1) (...) a(n+1).
