Using intensity and wavelength division multiplexing for fiber Bragg grating sensor system

The present invention provides a fiber Bragg grating sensor system, which comprises a light-division device having receiving-sending terminals and sensing terminals, a light generating device and a photo detector coupled with receiving-sending terminal of a light-division device, sensing fibers coupled with the sensing terminals, said sensing fiber comprising a fiber Bragg grating, a information processor connecting with said photo detector. The light-division device distribute different optical energy ratio from said receiving-sending terminals to said sensing terminals. The intensity and wavelength division multiplexing can make different intensity for the information addressed of different sensing fiber on the same optical channel to enhance the sensing capacity of fiber Bragg grating sensor system.
Adjusting mechanism for flying pickup head in data storage device

The present invention provides a tuning mechanism for flying pickup heads in data storage devices. The pickup device includes a coil, a pivot, a suspension, and a piezoelectric bender. The piezoelectric bender made by a bi-layer or a multi-layer piezoelectric material is formed on one end of the suspension, and proper voltages applied to the piezoelectric bender via wires enable the piezoelectric bender to undergo both neutral axis displacement and bending deflection. A pickup head is attached to the free end of the piezoelectric bender opposite to the coil, and via the piezoelectric bender, focusing and tracking motion of the pickup head can be tuned at the same time. Furthermore, since the characteristic of the piezoelectric bender is similar to bimetallic elements, the bender can undergo large bending deflection to compensate large deformation of rotating optical disks, so that the flying height of the pickup head can be tuned to maintain a constant focusing distance in reading/writing data.

Proposed is a MOS current-mode analogue-to-digital converter with sub-nA sensitivity. Its inherent low-voltage low-power and small-size capabilities are ideal for portable chemi- or biosensor applications.

The invention discloses a two-dimensional array waveguide structure implemented with multi-layer process or monolithic integrated circuit process. The structure includes a first metal layer, a second metal layer and a dielectric layer. The dielectric layer lain between the first and the second metal layer is for isolating the first metal layer from the second metal layer. The first metal layer and the second metal layer respectively formed from a plurality of first unit cells and second unit cells arranged in rows and columns create the two-dimensional array waveguide structure. The first metal layer consists of a main body and a plurality of connecting arms, whereas the second metal layer consists of a metal wire loop. The second metal layer is located below the first metal layer, and each second unit cell corresponds to each first unit cell in a one-on-one manner to further build a complete unit cell. While the main body of each unit cell corresponds to an inductance element, the connecting arms of each unit cell linking the adjacent unit cells correspond to a capacitance element; therefore, a two-dimensional L-C array is formed.

4月7日上午，台北市文化局樹木保護丈量人員來校與筆者會勘本校符合 [ 台北市樹木保護自治條例 ] 規範的喬木時，在中餐廳附近大花咸豐草叢發現一隻紫斑蝶，筆者拍下這隻紫斑蝶影，經比對確認為斯氏紫斑蝶，此蝶正式宣告紫斑蝶從台灣南部越冬紫斑蝶谷往北遷徙已經來到陽明山區，也就是目前認知中的紫斑蝶最北分布區.....

Measurements of polarization-dependent soft x-ray absorption reveal that the electronic states determining the low-energy excitations of NaxCoO2 have predominantly a(1g) symmetry with significant O 2p character. In contrast to the prediction of band theory, doping-dependent O 1s x-ray absorption shows a large transfer of spectral weight, providing spectral evidence for strong electron correlations of the layered cobaltates. We also found that NaxCoO2 exhibits a charge-transfer electronic character rather than a Mott-Hubbard character.

Synchronization of chaos for a two-degree-of-freedom heavy symmetric gyroscope system are studied in this paper. Because of the nonlinear terms of the system, the system exhibits both regular and chaotic motions. By Lyapunov stability theory with control terms, by adaptive control and by random optimization method, the synchronization of two identical systems and tracking of the parameter of the systems are Studied. Efficient UV photoluminescence from monodispersed secondary ZnO colloidal spheres synthesized by sol-gel method

ZnO colloidal spheres were synthesized by sol-gel method with a narrow size distribution. We controlled the size of the spheres during the secondary reaction with various amounts of primary reaction supernatant. The optimized condition of ZnO powders with an average diameter of 185 nm was obtained for structure analysis and study of optical properties. Transmission electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction reveal that the spheres are polycrystalline in the pure wurtzite phase. Markedly enhanced near-band-edge ultraviolet pbotoluminescence and significantly reduced defect-related visible emission were also observed. We attribute this observation to the localized bound excitons with high density of defect states. In addition, broad yellow emission and green emission were observed when the powders were post-annealed at 500 degrees C in air ambience. The origins of the defect-induced visible emissions are attributed to oxygen interstitials and oxygen vacancies. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
