Photonic band structure for a superconductor-dielectric superlattice

The photonic band structure in the transversal electric mode for a one-dimensional superconductor-dielectric superlattice is theoretically calculated. By using the Abeles theory for a stratified medium, we first calculate the transmittance spectrum from which all the possible bands can be directly seen. Then we calculate the real photonic band structure based oil the transcendental equation derived from the transfer matrix method and Bloch theorem. The band structure is shown to be strongly consistent with the transmittance spectrum. We finally study the three lowest band gaps as a function of penetration of superconductor, permittivity of dielectric, and angle of incidence, respectively. The optical properties in a superconductor-dielectric superlattice thus are well disclosed. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
Prediction of disulfide connectivity from protein sequences

The difficulties in predicting disulfide connectivity from protein sequences lie in the nonlocal properties of the disulfide bridges that involve cysteine pairs at large sequence separation. Though some progress has been recently made in the prediction of disulfide connectivity, the current methods predict less than half of the disulfide patterns for the data set sharing less than 30% sequence identity. In this report, we use the support vector machines based on sequence features such as the coupling between the local sequence environments of cysteine pair, the cysteines sequence separations, and the global sequence descriptor, such as amino acid content. Our approach is able to predict 55% of the disulfide patterns of proteins with two to five disulfide bridges, which is 11-26% higher than other methods in the literature. Proteins 2005;61:507-512. No-loss bent light pipe with an equiangular spiral

Bending a light pipe and maintaining the required volume and size, while at the same time preserving source energy and minimizing bend losses, is the basic criterion for designing a light pipe. An important requirement is the design of a light pipe that is capable of being bent without loss of light and with no limitations on acceptance angle. It is shown that in theory such a light pipe does exist, in a form corresponding to the so-called golden rectangle. Numerical simulations with six different no-loss light pipes with multiple bends are provided as a demonstration. (c) 2005 Optical Society of America
Effect of annealing atmosphere on physical characteristics and photoluminescence properties of nitrogen-implanted ZnO thin films

ZnO films were pre-treated with nitrogen implantation in the range from 5 x 10(12) to 5 x 10(15) cm(-2). Effect of nitrogen concentration on structural crystallinity and photoluminescence properties of nitrogen-implanted ZnO films under different atmospheres and annealing treatments was investigated. It was found that there exists a solubility issue of nitrogen in ZnO films at 850 degrees C via secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS). It was found that the peak intensity of near band-edge (NBE) emission remarkably decreases with the increase of concentration of implanted nitrogen if annealed in nitrogen atmosphere due to the increased oxygen vacancies. However, when the ZnO was implanted with 5 x 10(12) cm(-2) and annealed in oxygen atmosphere, the optical properties are improved probably because the effective incorporation of O atom diminishes those donor levels (oxygen vacancies) and the crystallinity is also improved due to implanted nitrogen. However, excess nitrogen would reduce the crystallinity and promote the formation of the deep-level emission due to high amount of intrinsic and structure defects. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. Comment on traceability on RSA-based partially signature with low computation

Recently, Chien et al. proposed RSA-based partially blind signature with low computation for mobile and smart-card applications. Hwang et al. claimed that Chien et al.'s scheme cannot meet the untraceability property of the blind signature later. In this paper, we show that Hwang et al.'s claim is incorrect and Chien et al.'s scheme is still satisfy the untraceability property. (c) 2005 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
Photon-number fluctuation and correlation of bound soliton pairs in mode-locked fiber lasers

Quantum photon-number fluctuation and correlation of bound soliton pairs in mode-locked fiber lasers are studied on the basis of the complex Ginzburg-Landau equation model. We find that, depending on their phase difference, the total photon-number noise of the bound soliton pair can be larger or smaller than that of a single soliton, and the two solitons in the soliton pair have a corresponding positive or negative photon-number correlation. It is predicted for the first time to our knowledge that out-of-phase soliton pairs can exhibit less noise as a result of negative correlation. (c) 2005 Optical Society of America.

隨著科技發展，人與人之間的距離也越來遙遠。近年來，常見社會批評現在的大學生態度冷漠、缺乏對社會的關懷，但是在陽明的校園內，正有一批大學一年級的學生願意付出他們的時間和精神，在醫療院所為病人服務。對大部分民眾而言，物理治療仍然是一個陌生的專業。因此，物理治療系特為大一的學生開設了「物理治療導論」及「物理治療臨床服務」兩門課程，以期大一學生儘早接觸臨床環境，了解物理治療師的專業角色。其中，「物理治療臨床服務」是一門生動的課程，系上會安排選修的學生每個星期進行兩個小時的臨床服務，服務地點包括：「振興復健醫學中心」、「台北榮民總醫院」及「創世基金會」。

Cyclic redundancy check modification for message length detection and error detection

In a method for a variable-length communications system including encoding a message and decoding a data bit stream, the message includes a plurality of message blocks. A message block of the message is encoded by generating a parity check bit stream, flipping the parity check bit stream, and appending the flipped parity check bit stream to the end of the message block. When a data bit stream is received, a guessed message block and a guessed flipped parity check bit stream are extracted based on a guessed message block length. A parity check bit stream is generated for the guessed message block and then flipped. If the flipped parity check bit stream is the same as the guessed flipped parity check bit stream, the message block has been identified. Otherwise, the guessed message block length is increased by 1 and the above step is repeated.
