Item type:Item, Electrophosphorescent polyfluorenes containing osmium complexes in the conjugated backbone(2008-05-09) ;Chien, Chen-Han ;Liao, Song-Fu ;Wu, Chen-Hao ;Shu, Ching-FongChang, Sheng-YuanElectrophosphorescent copolymers have been synthesized by covalent bonding of a red-emitting osmium complex Os(bpftz), which contains two 3-trifluoromethyl-5-(4-tert-butyl-2-pyridyl)triazolate (bpftz) cyclometalated ligands, into the backbone of a bipolar polyfluorene (PF) copolymer. Employing these copolymers, a highly efficient red polymer light-emitting diode has been realised that has an external quantum efficiency of 18.0%, a maximum brightness of 38000 cd m(-2), and an emission centered at 618 nm. In addition, after incorporating appropriate amounts of green-emitting benzothiadiazole (BT) and the aforementioned Os(bpftz) into the bipolar PF, an efficient white-light electroluminescent polymer is obtained that displays simultaneous blue, green, and red emissions.Item type:Item, Jug measuring: Algorithms and complexity(2008-05-10) ;Shieh, Min-Zheng ;Tsai, Shi-Chun ;資訊工程學系Department of Computer ScienceWe study the hardness of the optimal jug measuring problem. By proving tight lower and upper bounds on the minimum number of measuring steps required, we reduce an inapproximable NP-hard problem (i.e., the shortest GCD multiplier problem [G. Havas, J.-P. Seifert, The Complexity of the Extended GCD Problem, in: LNCS, vol. 1672, Springer, 1999]) to it. It follows that the optimal jug measuring problem is NP-hard and so is the problem of approximating the minimum number of measuring steps within a constant factor. Along the way, we give a polynomial-time approximation algorithm with an exponential error based on the well-known LLL basis reduction algorithm. (C) 2008 Elsevier B.V. The optical images of the light extraction patterns from the guided photoluminescence light are obtained with laser excitation in the center of the annual structure made on GaN multilayer. For increasing lattice constant, symmetric patterns with varying number of petals according to the symmetry of the PhC are observed. The appearance and disappearance of the petals can be explained using the Ewald construction in the reciprocal space. The dependence of light extraction on the lattice constant and orientation, and incident angle are investigated. S. ;Wang, S. Y. ;Lee, C. P. ;Lo, M. C.電子工程學系及電子研究所We demonstrate the high quantum efficiency InAs/In(0.15)Ga(0.85)As dots-in-a-well (DWELL) quantum dot infrared photodetectors (QDIPs). A thin Al(0.3)Ga(0.7)As layer was inserted on top of the InAs quantum dots (QDs) to enhance the confinement of QD states in the DWELL structure. The better confinement of the electronic states increases the oscillation strength of the infrared absorption. The higher excited state energy also improves the escape probability of the photoelectrons. Compared with the conventional DWELL QDIPs, the quantum efficiency increases more than 20 times and the detectivity is about an order of magnitude higher at 77 K.
