Item type:Item, A hybrid immune-estimation distribution of algorithm for mining thyroid gland data(2010-03-15) ;Chang, Wei-Wen ;Yeh, Wei-Chang ;Huang, Pei-Chiao ;工業工程與管理學系Department of Industrial Engineering and ManagementIn this paper we combine the main concepts of estimation of distribution algorithms (EDAs) and immune algorithms (IAs) to be a hybrid algorithm called immune-estimation of distribution algorithms (IEDA). Both EDAs and IAs are extended from genetic algorithms (GAs). EDAs eliminate the genetic operation including crossover and mutation from the GAs and places more emphasis on the relation between gene loci. It adopts the distribution of selected individuals in search space and models the probability distributions to generate the next population. However, the primary gap of EDAs is lock of diversity between individuals. Hence, we introduce the IAs that is a new branch in computational intelligence. The main concepts of IAs are suppression and hypermutation that make the individuals be more diversity. Moreover, the primary gap of IAs is to pay no attention to the relation between individuals. Therefore, we combine the main concepts of two algorithms to improve the gaps each other. The classification risk of data mining is applied by this paper and compares the results between IEDA and general GAs in the experiments. We adopt the thyroid gland data set from LICI databases. Based on the obtained results, our research absolute is better than general GAs including accuracy, type I error and type 11 error. The results show not only the excellence of accuracy but also the robustness of the proposed algorithm. In this paper we have got high quality results which can be used as reference for hospital decision making and research workers. (C) 2009 Elsevier Ltd. T. ;資訊管理與財務金融系 註:原資管所+財金所Department of Information Management and FinanceWe consider a new model of time-dependent scheduling. A set of deteriorating jobs has to be processed on a single machine which is available starting from a non-zero time. The processing times of some jobs from this set are constant, while other ones are either proportional or linear functions of the job starting times. The applied criteria of schedule optimality include the maximum completion time, the total completion time, the total weighted completion time, the maximum lateness and the number of tardy jobs. We delineate a sharp boundary between computationally easy and difficult problems, showing polynomially solvable and NP-hard cases. (C) 2010 Elsevier Inc. At present, the full-scale bioreactor is treating an average leachate flow of 304 m(3) d(-1) with a sludge retention time between 12 and 18 d. The average COD, NH(4)(+)-N and NO(3)(-)-N concentrations at the upstream end of the bioreactor. i.e., influent, are 554, 634 and 3 mg L(-1), respectively; whereas no NO(2)(-)-N is detected in the influent. The percentage removals of COD and NH(4)(+)-N in the bioreactor were 28% and 80%, respectively. A nitrogen mass balance approach was adopted to analyze the performance of SNAD in the full-scale bioreactor. The total nitrogen (TN) removal by combined partial nitrification and anaerobic ammonium oxidation is 68% and the heterotrophic denitrification contributes to 8% and 23% of TN and COD removals, respectively. The red granule in the bioreactor was analyzed by using fluorescence in situ hybridization and polymerase chain reaction. The results of both analytical methods confirm the presence of anaerobic ammonium oxidizing bacteria as the predominant species along with other Planctomycete-like bacteria. Overall, the SNAD process offers the simultaneous removals of nitrogen and COD in the wastewater. (C) 2009 Elsevier B.V. More precisely, we discuss the nonrelativistic-semiclassical limit of the modulated cubic nonlinear Klein-Gordon equation with magnetic field where the Planck's constant h = epsilon and the speed of light c are related by c = epsilon(-alpha) for some alpha >= 1. When alpha = 1 the limit wave function satisfies the wave map with one extra term coming from the magnetic field. However, alpha > 1, the effect of the magnetic filed disappears and the limit is the typical wave map equation only. (C) 2009 Elsevier Inc. To systematically investigate the charge transport mechanisms in these samples, the electrical resistivities have been measured over a wide range of temperature from 300 K down to liquid-helium temperatures. We found that below about 100 K, the variable-range-hopping (VRH) conduction processes govern the charge transport properties. In particular, the Mott VRH conduction process dominates at higher temperatures, while crossing over to the Efros-Shklovskii (ES) VRH conduction process at lower temperatures. The crossover occurred at temperatures as high as a few tens degrees kelvin. Moreover, the temperature behavior of resistivity over the entire VRH conduction regime from the Mott-type to the ES-type process can be well described by a universal scaling law.Item type:Item, A callback mechanism for Private Telecommunications Networks(2010-03-15) ;Chang, Ming-Feng ;Lu, Fang-Sun ;Chia, Chung-Yung ;資訊工程學系Department of Computer SciencePrivate Telecommunications Networks (PTNs), such as enterprise telephony and Voice over IP (VoIP), have been widely deployed. A common limitation of PTNs is that PTN users are usually not assigned with Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) EA 64 numbers. A PTN user is usually identified by an extension number or a URI (universal resource identifier). When a PTN user initiates a call to a PSTN user, it is not possible to use the PTN calling party's identifier as the caller ID; instead, an E.164 number of the PBX or VoIP gateway is used. As a result, the PSTN called party cannot use the caller ID received to call back to the PTN calling party later, if the PTN user's extension number or URI is unknown. This paper proposes a callback table approach to solve this problem. We describe how the call-out information is stored into and retrieved from a callback table maintained in the PBXs; or VoIP gateways to provide callback service. Numeric analysis has been performed to evaluate the performance of this callback solution. The numeric results indicate that the callback method provides a satisfactory solution when there is sufficient voice traffic served by a VoIP gateway. (C) 2009 Elsevier B.V. Polarization-independent optical phase shift is because the propagation of an incident light is along the optic axis of PSBP-LC, and birefringence of PSBP-LC induced by Kerr effect results in electrically tunable optical phase shift. The measured optical phase shift of a PSBP-LC phase modulation is around pi radian at 150 V(rms) for the cell gap of 7 mu. The response time is about 3 ms. The focal length is around 13.1 cm at 100 V(rms).Item type:Item, Nanoindentation characterization of GaN epilayers on A-plane sapphire substrates(2010-03-15) ;Lin, Meng-Hung ;Wen, Hua-Chiang ;Huang, Chih-Yung ;Jeng, Yeau-RenYau, Wei-HungGallium nitride (GaN) epilayers was deposited on a-axis sapphire substrate by means of metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) method. The GaN epilayers has been investigated in their repetition pressure-induced impairment events from nanoindentation technique and, the relative deformation effect was observed from atomic force microscopy (AFM). From the morphological studies, it is revealed that none of crack and particle was found even after the indentation beyond the critical depth on the residual indentation impression. The 'pop-in' event was explained by the interaction of the deformed region, produced by the indenter tip, with the inner threading dislocations in the GaN films. Pop-in events indicate the generation and motion of individual dislocation, which is measured under critical depth and, no residual deformation of the GaN films is observed. (C) 2009 Elsevier B. V. The SCF can transport the oxidant and penetrate the gate oxide layer for the oxidation of SiO(2)/Ge interface at 150 degrees C. A smooth interfacial GeO(2) layer between gate SiO(2) and Ge is thereby formed after SCF treatment, and the frequency dispersion of capacitance-voltage characteristics is also effectively alleviated. Furthermore, the electrical degradation of Ge-MOS after a postgate dielectric annealing at 450 degrees C can be restored to a extent similar to the initial state.Item type:Item, Treatment of Reactive Black 5 by combined electrocoagulation-granular activated carbon adsorption-microwave regeneration process(2010-03-15) ;Chang, Shih-Hsien ;Wang, Kai-Sung ;Liang, Hsiu-Hao ;Chen, Hsueh-YuLi, Heng-ChingTreatment of an azo dye, Reactive Black 5 (RB5) by combined electrocoagulation-activated carbon adsorption-microwave regeneration process was evaluated. The toxicity was also monitored by the Vibrio fischeri light inhibition test. GAC of 100 g L(-1) sorbed 82% of RB5 (100 mg L(-1)) within 4h. RB5-loaded GAC was not effectively regenerated by microwave irradiation (800W, 30s). Electrocoagulation showed high decolorization of RB5 within 8 min at pH(0) of 7, current density of 277 A m(-2), and NaCl of 1 g L(-1). However, 61% COD residue remained after treatment and toxicity was high (100% light inhibition). GAC of 20g L(-1) effectively removed COD and toxicity of electrocoagulation-treated solution within 4h. Microwave irradiation effectively regenerated intermediate-loaded GAC within 30s at power of 800 W, GAC/water ratio of 20 g L(-1), and pH of 7.8. The adsorption capacity of GAC for COD removal from the electrocoagulation-treated solution did not significantly decrease at the first 7 cycles of adsorption/regeneration. The adsorption capacity of GAC for removal of both A(265) (benzene-related groups) and toxicity slightly decreased after the 6th cycle. (C) 2009 Elsevier B.V. However, quantification of PEG and PEGylated small molecules remains laborious and unsatisfactory. In this report, we stably expressed a functional anti-PEG antibody on the surface of BALB 3T3 cells (3T3/alpha PEG cells) to develop a competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for PEG quantification. The alpha-PEG cell-coated plate bound biotinylated PEG(5K) (CH(3)-PEG(5K)-biotin) and CH(3)-PEG(5K)-(131)I more effectively than did a traditional anti-PEG antibody-coated plate. Competitive binding between PEG (2, 5, 10, or 20 kDa) and a known amount of CH(3)-PEG(5K)-biotin allowed construction of a reproducible competition curve. The alpha PEG cell-based competition ELISA measured small molecules derivatized by PEG(2K), PEG(5K), PEG(10K), PEG(20K), and PEG(5K) at concentrations as low as 58.6, 14.6, 3.7, 3.7, and 14.6 ng/mL respectively. Notably, the presence of serum or bovine serum albumin enhanced PEG measurement by the alpha PEG cell-based competition ELISA. Finally, we show here that the alpha PEG cell-based competition ELISA accurately delineated the pharmacokinetics of PEG(5K), comparable to those determined by direct measurement of radioactivity in blood after intravenous injection of CH(3)-PEG(5K)-(131)I into mice. This quantitative strategy may provide a simple and sensitive method for quantifying PEG and PEGylated small molecules in vivo.Item type:Item, A Novel Passive Optical Network Architecture Supporting Seamless Integration of RoF and OFDMA Signals(2010-03-15) ;Lin, Yu-Min ;Tien, Po-Lung ;Yuang, Maria C. ;Lee, Steven S. W.Chen, Jason (Jyehong)In this letter, we propose a novel passive optical network (PON) architecture supporting radio-over-fiber signals and orthogonal frequency-division multiple access (OFDMA) PON signals. The architecture transports upstream multiple remote antenna's wireless signals using only one upstream wavelength. In addition, the windowed-orthogonal frequency-division-multiplexing technique is employed to mitigate interference during the integration process. Experimental results shows that 10-Gb/s OFDMA and three radio-frequency signals at 2.1 GHz are successfully transmitted over 20-km single-mode fiber in a 32-optical-network-unit PON.Item type:Item, A rule-based CBR approach for expert finding and problem diagnosis(2010-03-15) ;Tung, Yuan-Hsin ;Tseng, Shian-Shyong ;Weng, Jui-Feng ;Lee, Tsung-PingLiao, Anthony Y. H.It is important to find the person with right expertise and the appropriate solutions in the specific field to solve a critical situation in a large complex system such as an enterprise level application. In this paper, we apply the experts' knowledge to construct a solution retrieval system for expert finding and problem diagnosis. Firstly, we aim to utilize the experts' problem diagnosis knowledge which can identify the error type of problem to suggest the corresponding expert and retrieve the solution for specific error type. Therefore, how to find an efficient way to use domain knowledge and the corresponding experts has become an important issue. To transform experts' knowledge into the knowledge base of a solution retrieval system, the idea of developing a solution retrieval system based on hybrid approach using RBR (rule-based reasoning) and CBR (case-based reasoning), RCBR (rule-based CBR), is proposed in this research. Furthermore, we incorporate domain expertise into our methodology with role-based access control model to suggest appropriate expert for problem solving, and build a prototype system with expert finding and problem diagnosis for the complex system. The experimental results show that RCBR (rule-based CBR) can improve accuracy of retrieval cases and reduce retrieval time prominently. (C) 2009 Elsevier Ltd. However, these co-regulated genes may behave almost independently under other conditions. Furthermore, the similarity in the expression pattern might be time-shifted. In that case, we need to be concerned with grouping genes that share similar expression patterns under a contiguous subset of conditions and where the similarity in expression pattern might have time lags. in addition, to be considered a time-shifted similar pattern, because co-regulated genes in a biological process may show a periodic pattern in their cell cycle expression, we also should group genes with periodic similar patterns over multiple cell cycles. If this is carried out, we can regard such grouped genes as cell-cycle regulated genes. Results: We propose a method that follows the q-cluster concept [Ji, L., & Tan, K. L. (2005). Identifying time-lagged gene clusters using gene expression data. Bioinformatics, 21(4), 509-516] and further advances this approach towards the identification of cell-cycle regulated genes using cell cycle microarray data. We used our method to Cluster a microarray time series of yeast genes to assess the statistically biological significance of the obtained clusters we used the p-value obtained from the hypergeometric distribution. We found that several clusters provided findings suggesting a TF-target relationship. In order to test whether our method could group related genes that other methods have found difficult to group, we compared our method with other measures such as Spearman Rank Correlation and Pearson Correlation. The results of the comparison demonstrate that our method indeed could group known related genes that these measures regard as having only a weak association. (C) 2009 Elsevier Ltd. We observed quenching in the photoluminescence spectra of our polymers after incorporating pendent electron-deficient perylene diimide (PDI) moieties on the side chains, indicating more efficient photoinduced electron transfer. Electrochemical measurements revealed that the PDI-containing copolymers displayed reasonable and sufficient offsets of the energy levels of their lowest unoccupied molecular orbitals for efficient charge dissociation. The performance of bulk heterojunction photovoltaic cells incorporating the copolymer/[6,6]-phenyl-C(61)-butyric acid methyl ester blends (1:4, w/w) was optimized when the active layer had a thickness of 70 nm. The photocurrents of the devices were enhanced as a result of the presence of the PDI moieties, thereby leading to improved power conversion efficiencies. (C) 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The obtained sidebands show small angle dispersion, but have good beam quality with M(2) factor better than 1.1 in the measurement. The center wavelength of the generated multicolor sideband can be conveniently tuned by replacing the nonlinear medium with one of several different materials. Theoretical analysis and calculation based on the phase-matching condition with the consideration of broadband spectra of the two incident pulses clarified the mechanism of this process. Self-compressed multicolor 20-fs pulses, which were nearly transform-limited, were obtained when one of the two input beams was appropriately negatively chirped and the other was positively chirped. However, current performance evaluation models have been criticized for two reasons. First, the measurement criteria currently used are not completely in accordance with the characteristics of different university types, research-intensive university, teaching-intensive university, and professional-intensive university. Second, the models assume independence of measured criteria. Nonetheless, in the real world, such measured criteria are seldom independent. To address these issues, we first reviewed the literature and interviewed Taiwanese higher education experts to integrate critical measurement criteria and develop an original performance appraisal system (OPAS). Next, we adapted a decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) method to present complex interdependent relationships and to construct a relation structure among measurement criteria for performance appraisal. A fuzzy analytic network process (FANP) was generated to address the dependence and feedback among each of the measurement criteria, Finally, we proposed a Pro-performance appraisal system (PPAS). This study offers a Pro-performance appraisal system (PPAS) to aid in future performance appraisals and improvements for all three university types. (C) 2009 Elsevier Ltd. DFMEA is not only an important risk assessment technique but also a major task for enterprises in implementing production management. The purpose is to ensure that the product can achieve its designed functions under specific operating conditions. Most current DFMEA methods use the Risk Priority Number (RPN) value to evaluate the risk of failure. However, conventional RPN methodology has the serious problem of measurement scales and loses some valued information, which experts have to provide. In order to improve the method of RPN evaluation, this paper proposes a novel technique, combining 2-tuple and the Ordered Weighted Averaging (OWA) operator for prioritization of failures in a product DFMEA. A case of the Color Super Twisted Nematic (CSTN) that has been drawn from a midsized manufacturing factory is presented to further illustrate the proposed approach. After comparing the result that was obtained from the proposed method with the other two listed approaches, it was found that the proposed approach can effectively solve the problem of measurement scales and has not lost any expert to provide the useful information. As a result, stability of the product and process can be assured. (C) 2009 Elsevier Ltd. However, these institutes generally rely greatly on academic research to evaluate innovation performance. Nevertheless, the performance of innovation may be affected by numerous factors that are often beyond the scope of a single academic study. Thus, to address this concern, this paper constructs an innovation support system (ISS) for Taiwanese higher education institutes to comprehensively evaluate their innovation performance. Previous research often evaluates performance by independently considering a number of criteria. However, this assumption of independence does not model the so-called "real world"; thus, we present a novel conjunctive multiple criteria decision-making (MCDM) approach that addresses dependent relationships among each measurement criteria. As such, we utilize a decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL), a fuzzy analytical network process (FANP), and a technique for order preference by similarity to an ideal solution (TOPSIS) forming order to develop an innovation support system (ISS) that considers the interdependence and the relative weights of each measurement criterion.
