The present invention discloses a wavelength-multiplex and space-multiplex holographic storage device, which comprises a storage medium, a plurality of signal light beams and at least one reference light beam. The signal light beams have different wavelengths and illuminate the storage medium. The reference light beam illuminates the storage medium and interferes with the signal light beams to form a plurality of interference patterns. The interference patterns are respectively stored on different-depth storage layers of the storage medium. The present invention not only has a high access rate but also has a large storage capacity.

Electrical stimulation system and method for generating virtual channels are disclosed. The electrical stimulation system comprises: an electrode controller, a carrier, a plurality of electrode units, and a buffer layer. The electrode units are disposed on the carrier, and each of the electrode units are electrically connected to the electrode controller independently. Besides, the electrode units and the carrier are covered with the buffer layer. When the electrode controller receive a control signal and drive the corresponding electrode units, the electrical currents output from the corresponding electrode units can electrically interfere with each other to generate a virtual channel between the corresponding electrode units.

A sensing element includes a field-effect transistor (FET) with an ultra-thin channel, a reference electrode, a first and a second passivation layer, and a microchannel. The first and the second passivation layer enclose a first and a second portion of the FET, respectively. The microchannel is bonded to the first and the second passivation layer, such that the microchannel is extended across the channel of the ultra-thin channel FET. The ultra-thin channel has a chemically or physically modified surface. When an analyte to be tested passes through the microchannel and is in contact with the modified surface of the ultra-thin channel, it results in changes in the conductance of the ultra-thin channel FET. Trace detection may be conducted on the analyte by observing changes in the conductance. A method for manufacturing the sensing element and a biological detection system employing the sensing element are also provided.

The present invention relates to an adjustable optical signal delay module, particularly to a module, which adjusts power of an amplified spontaneous emission generated by a semiconductor optical amplifier and reversely feeds the adjusted amplified spontaneous emission back to the semiconductor optical amplifier to vary a group refractive index of the semiconductor optical amplifier and delay the timing of an optical signal, whereby the present invention can replace the pump laser conventionally required by a CPO mechanism. In the present invention, the feedback optical loop comprises a variable optical attenuator, an optical filter, and optical circulators. An user can control the delay timing of optical signals via adjusting optical power in the feedback optical loop. The present invention can decrease the fabrication cost of an optical signal delay module and reduce the volume thereof.

Background: Six3a belongs to the SIX family of homeodomain proteins and is expressed in the most anterior neural plate at the beginning of neurogenesis in various species. Though the function of Six3a as a crucial regulator of eye and forebrain development has been thoroughly investigated, the transcriptional regulation of six3a is not well understood. Results: To elucidate the transcriptional regulation of six3a, we performed an in vivo reporter assay. Alignment of the 21-kb region surrounding the zebrafish six3a gene with the analogous region from different species identified several conserved non-coding modules. Transgenesis in zebrafish identified two enhancer elements and one suppressor. The D module drives the GFP reporter in the forebrain and eyes at an early stage, while the A module is responsible for the later expression. The A module also works as a repressor suppressing ectopic expression from the D module. Mutational analysis further minimized the A module to four highly conserved elements and the D module to three elements. Using electrophoresis mobility shift assays, we also provided evidence for the presence of DNA-binding proteins in embryonic nuclear extracts. The transcription factors that may occupy those highly conserved elements were also predicted. Conclusion: This study provides a comprehensive view of six3a transcription regulation during brain and eye development and offers an opportunity to establish the gene regulatory networks underlying neurogenesis in zebrafish.

文化創意產業發展法正式在年初通過，對於台灣的創意市場而言，無疑地是往前跨了一大步，然而許多先進國家近幾年來愈趨重視「文化創意產業」的概念，也是此立法背後的推力之一；台灣以往不論在文化或是創意方面，始終都沒有成為國家的重點發展項目，甚至在拼經濟的口號聲中，許多精神層面的建設，很容易被漠視與遺忘，這也導致台灣在文化創意產業的領域中沒辦法有所突破，而與許多國家出現相當程度的落差。

死刑存廢經過多年以來爭論未果，近日更因前法務部長王清峰拒絕簽署死刑執行令而成為新聞焦點。一直以來，死刑制度的複雜層次缺乏嚴肅的正視，更缺乏必要的公共辯論，不但造成相關知識和資訊缺乏，深思熟慮的政策或替代措施也無從形成。四個專精於法學和社會學的學者，分別對此議題表達個人觀點，死刑存廢的抉擇，正考驗台灣司法與民眾的智慧。

二○○六年，紙風車文教基金會執行長李永豐不願意見到台灣的小孩子，因為外在環境而有了欣賞藝術的差距，因此發願展開「紙風車３１９鄉村兒童藝術工程」，期望讓偏遠地區的小孩子，一樣能觀賞到國家劇院規格的兒童劇；每一個鄉鎮只需要募款到三十五萬，紙風車劇團就到這些地方免費招待演出，而《孩子的第一哩路》是紙風車劇團在演出第一百場之後所出的特輯，用以紀念這中間對活動辛苦付出的所有人。
