Item type:Item, Interfacial Charge Carrier Dynamics in Core-Shell Au-CdS Nanocrystals(2010-07-08) ;Yang, Ting-Ting ;Chen, Wei-Ta ;Hsu, Yung-Jung ;Wei, Kung-HwaLin, Tai-YuanThe interfacial charge carrier dynamics for core-shell Au-CdS nanocrystals with various shell thicknesses were investigated and presented. Due to the difference in band structures between Au and CdS, a pronounced photoinduced charge separation took place at the interface of Au and CdS, resulting in the electron-charged Au core and the hole-enriched CdS shell. The electron-charging of Au core in Au-CdS nanocrystals was revealed with the corresponding XPS analysis and photocurrent measurement. Time-resolved PL spectra were measured to quantitatively analyze the electron transfer event between CdS shell and Au core for Au-CdS nanocrystals. An increase in the electron-transfer rate constant was observed for Au-CdS nanocrystals with increasing shell thickness, probably due to the less pronounced electron hole interaction of thicker CdS, which enabled a fuller extent of participation of photoexcited electrons in the charge separation process. On the other hand, the hole-enriched CdS shell of Au-CdS nanocrystals upon light illumination was characterized with a photocatalytic process. The photocatalytic activity of Au-CdS nanocrystals was found to increase with increasing shell thickness, attributable to the greater capability of light absorption achieved by the extensive growth of the CdS shell. The correlation of photocatalytic activity with the shell thickness of Au-CdS nanocrystals corresponded well with that of the electron-transfer rate constant. As compared to the relevant commercial products like N-doped P-25 TiO(2), and CdS powders, the as-synthesized Au-CdS nanocrystals, exhibited superior photocatalytic performance under visible light illumination, demonstrating their potential as an effective visible-light-driven photocatalyst. Furthermore, the result of performance evaluation under natural sunlight shows that the present Au-CdS nanocrystals can be used as highly efficient photocatalysts which may practically harvest energy from sunlight.Item type:Item, Fast-Forwarding Hit to Lead: Aurora and Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor Kinase Inhibitor Lead Identification(2010-07-08) ;Coumar, Mohane Selvaraj ;Chu, Chang-Ying ;Lin, Cheng-Wei ;Shiao, Hui-YiHo, Yun-LungA focused library of furanopyrimidine (350 compounds) was rapidly synthesized in parallel reactors and in situ screened for Aurora and epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) kinase activity, leading to the identification of some interesting hits. On the basis of structural biology observations, the hit la was modified to better fit the back pocket, producing the potent Aurora inhibitor 3 with submicromolar antiproliferative activity in HCT-116 colon cancer cell line. On the basis of docking studies with EGFR hit Is, introduction of acrylamide Michael acceptor group led to 8, which inhibited both the wild and mutant EGFR kinase and also showed antiproliferative activity in HCC827 lung cancer cell line. Furthermore, the X-ray cocrystal study of 3 and 8 in complex with Aurora and EGFR, respectively, confirmed their hypothesized binding modes. Library construction, in situ screening, and structure-based drug design (SBDD) strategy described here could be applied for the lead identification of other kinases.Item type:Item, Dual-threshold-voltage two-port sub-threshold SRAM cell apparatus(2010-07-08) ;Chang, Mu-Tien ;Huang, Po-TsangHwang, WeiThe invention relates to a dual-threshold-voltage two-port sub-threshold SRAM cell apparatus. Y. ;Mohanty, U. S. ;Chou, J. H. ;應用化學系Department of Applied ChemistryThe synthesis of Sn-3.5Ag-0 5Zn alloy nanoparticles was carried out respectively at 50 and 70 degrees C by using chemical reduction method to examine the temperature effect The stirring times were 3, 12 and 24 h for each temperature X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were used to investigate the microstructures of the nanoparticle alloys. Xray diffraction patterns revealed that the compound of Ag(3)Sn was formed in the alloying process. Other intermetallic compounds such as Ag(4)Sn and Ag(5)Zn(8) were also obtained in the XRD patterns. Results on TEM revealed that the isolated particles were spherical in shape and the particle size varied from 10 to 20 nm, showing the crystalline nature of the alloy. The nanoparticles obtained were evenly dispersed and less aggregated for the stirring time of 12 h and temperature of 50 degrees C. On the other hand, the nanoparticles obtained at 70 degrees C under the stirring time of 3 h were amorphous in nature and agglomerated which are reflected in the TEM micrographs (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V All rights reservedItem type:Item, Robust observer-controller compensator design using the loop shaping design procedure and the algebraic method(2010-07-10) ;Lee, An-Chen ;Pan, Yi-Ren ;Huang, Yuan-Yong ;機械工程學系Department of Mechanical EngineeringThis paper investigates robust observer-controller compensator design using Vidyasagar's structure (VS). VS has a unit matrix parameter H similar to the Q parameter for the Youla-Kucera parameterization. VS can be designed based on the left coprimeness of the central controller in the H(infinity)-loop shaping design procedure (H(infinity)-LSDP) and therefore can preserve the intrinsic properties of the H(infinity)-LSDP. This paper introduces algebraic methods to simplify the design of H in the VS controller by solving specific algebraic equations. In particular, the algebraic design of H can achieve two things. First, a dynamic H adjusts the tracking performance and yields the integral action. Second, a dynamic H rejects the input and output sinusoidal disturbances with known frequencies. These attributes are indications of the flexibility of the proposed method since the output-feedback controller design of the H(infinity)-LSDP cannot easily deal with such conditions. This paper discusses the achieved loop and the closed-loop behavior of the system with VS, and also gives two numerical examples. The first example shows that the proposed method results in a better design in many aspects than the resulting from H(infinity)-LSDP. The second example shows the application of the proposed method to rejecting input and output step disturbances, and input and output multiple sinusoidal disturbances, for which the H(infinity)-LSDP can hardly be used. J. ;Yu, C. ;Huang, S. Y.Chen, D. C.We prepared submicron wide trilayer spin valve wires designed with periodic "spikes" as artificial roughness. The height and the pitch of the spikes were varied systematically. No obvious dependence was found between the roughness and the domain wall velocity when the spikes were smaller than a threshold of 30 nm for NiFe. The average velocity was slowed down when the height of the spikes were larger than the threshold. In-plane transverse magnetic fields help to reduce the critical current density for current induced domain-wall motion. Our results could be attributed to the space modulation of the local magnetization. (C) 2010 American Institute of Physics. A cyclohexane solution of 9-cis retinal was photoexcited at 349 nm and the subsequent photodynamics were traced. A singular value decomposition (SVD) analysis of the time-resolved infrared data shows that there are two distinct isomerization pathways. One is the triplet pathway that takes place in the picosecond time regime from 9-cis to all-trans. The other involves the energy transfer between the all-trans triplet state and the 9-cis ground state with the resultant 9-cis triplet state subsequently reproducing the all-trans by fast isomerization on the triplet potential surface. This quantum chain process occurs in the microsecond time regime. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V. N. ;Jiang, T. F. ;Morishita, T. ;Lee, M. -H.Lin, C. D.We study theoretically the electron wave packet generated by an attosecond pulse train (APT) which is probed with a time-delayed infrared (IR) laser pulse. The APT creates an excited state and a continuum electron wave packet. By ionizing the excited state with an IR, a delayed new continuum electron wave packet is created. The interference of the wave packets from the two paths, as reflected in angle-resolved photoelectron spectra, is analyzed analytically. Using the analytical expressions, we examine the possibility of retrieving information on the electron wave packet generated by the APT.Item type:Item, Tuning Spectral and Electrochemical Properties of Porphyrin-Sensitized Solar Cells(2010-07-15) ;Lo, Chen-Fu ;Hsu, Shun-Ju ;Wang, Chin-Li ;Cheng, Yi-HuiLu, Hsueh-PeiPhenylethynyl-substituted porphyrin (PEI) sensitizers bearing a nitro, cyano, methoxy, or dimethylamino phenylethynyl substituent were prepared to examine the electron-donating or -withdrawing effects of dyes on the photovoltaic performance of the corresponding dye-sensitized solar cells. The overall efficiencies of power conversion of the devices show a systematic trend Me(2)N-PE1 > MeO-PE1 > CN-PE1 > NO(2)-PE1, for which Me(2)N-PE1 has a device performance about 90% of that of a N719-sensitized solar cell under the same experimental conditions. The superior performance of Me(2)N-PE1 is attributed to the effective electron-donating property of the dye that exhibits broadened and red-shifted spectral features. According to frontier orbitals based on DFT calculations, the electrons are effectively injected from the dye to TiO(2) for Me(2)N-PE1 and MeO-PE1 upon excitation, but that driving force reverses for NO(2)-PE1. Electrochemical tests indicate that both LUMO and HOMO levels show a systematic trend Me(2)N-PE1 > MeO-PE1 > CN-PE1 > NO(2)-PE1, consistent with the trend of variation of the short-circuit currents in this series of sensitizers. Item type:Item, Liquid crystal alignment in nanoporous anodic aluminum oxide layer for LCD panel applications(2010-07-16) ;Hong, Chitsung ;Tang, Tsung-Ta ;Hung, Chi-Yu ;Pan, Ru-PinFang, WeileunThis paper reports the implementation and integration of a self-assembled nanoporous anodic aluminum oxide (np-AAO) film and liquid crystal (LC) on an ITO-glass substrate for liquid crystal display (LCD) panel applications. An np-AAO layer with a nanopore array acts as the vertical alignment layer to easily and uniformly align the LC molecules. Moreover, the np-AAO nanoalignment layer provides outstanding material properties, such as being inorganic with good transmittance, and colorless on ITO-glass substrates. In this application, an LCD panel, with the LC on the np-AAO nanoalignment layer, is successfully implemented on an ITO-glass substrate, and its performance is demonstrated. The measurements show that the LCD panel, consisting of an ITO-glass substrate and an np-AAO layer, has a transmittance of 60-80%. In addition, the LCD panel switches from a black state to a bright state at 3 V(rms), with a response time of 62.5 ms. In summary, this paper demonstrates the alignment of LC on an np-AAO layer for LCD applications. Item type:Item, Green-emitting phosphors and process for producing the same(2010-07-20) ;Chen ;Teng-Ming ;ChiuYi-ChenThis invention relates to a green phosphor and a process for producing the same, wherein the phosphor is represented by a chemical formula: M(Tb1-xLax)4Si3O13, where M includes at least one of Ca and Sr, and 0Item type:Item, Item type:Item, Investigation of Conformation-Dependent Properties of L-Phenylalanine in Neutral and Radical Cations by Using a Density Functional Taking into Account Noncovalent Interactions(2010-07-22) ;Baek, K. Y. ;Hayashi, M. ;Fujimura, Y. ;Lin, S. H.Kim, S. K.Conformation-dependent properties of L-phenylalanine in neutral and radical cations have been studied by using density functional theory (DFT) with a new density functional M05-2X, which is applicable to molecular systems with nonconvalent interactions. Adiabatic and vertical ionization energies and charge distributions in the cationic conformers in addition to optimized geometrical structures for both the neutral and the cationic conformers were evaluated. These results were compared with DFT (B3LYP) results. The M05-2X results can explain the correspondence between the observed and predicted conformers without ambiguity. The possibility of conformerization of neutral conformers is indicated from the results of IRC (intrinsic reaction coordinate) profiles.
