Item type:Item, Memory characteristics of laser-crystallized polycrystalline-silicon silicon-oxide-nitride-oxide-silicon thin-film transistor with location-controlled grain boundary perpendicular to the channel(2012-06-11) ;Lee, I-Che ;Tsai, Chun-Chien ;Kuo, Hsu-Hang ;Yang, Po-YuWang, Chao-LungAn excimer-laser-crystallized polycrystalline-silicon silicon-oxide-nitride-oxide-silicon thin-film transistor with recessed-channel structure has been designed to achieve only one grain boundary with a protrusion perpendicular to the channel for investigating the grain boundary location effects on the memory characteristics. After programming, the devices demonstrated better memory characteristics as the grain boundary was allocated near the source junction. In contrast, the memory characteristics were degraded when the grain boundary was located near the drain junction. The phenomenon was explained by the 2-D device simulation and the energy band diagrams. (C) 2012 American Institute of Physics. V. ;Gritsenko, V. A. ;Cheng, C. H.Chin, A.Model of evenly distributed traps in bulk dielectric is proposed for the resistive memory switching mechanism. Switching from high resistance to the low resistance state is explained by several-fold increase in trap concentration after the application of switching voltage. Both high and low resistance conductivities are governed by multi-phonon ionization and tunneling between neighboring traps. Thermal trap energy for oxygen vacancy and electron effective mass for crystal alpha-GeO2 were calculated using density functional theory and used for the fitting of our charge transport model of resistive memory. The model was verified on the TaN-GeO2-Ni structure with good semi-quantitative agreement with experiment. (C) 2012 American Institute of Physics. H. ;Niu, H. ;Yan, D. C. ;Hsieh, H. H.Lee, C. P.Ferromagnetic GeMn was prepared by Mn implantation followed by ion beam-induced epitaxial crystallization annealing. The damage caused by Mn implantation was repaired by subsequent helium ion irradiation. Various structural analyses were performed and Mn ions were found to incorporate uniformly into the Ge lattice without the formation of any secondary phases. The remnant magnetic moment exhibited room temperature ferromagnetism. Anomalous Hall effect and field dependent magnetization were measured at the same time at room temperature indicating spin polarized free carrier transport. Additional measurement using x-ray magnetic circular dichroism also revealed that the carriers were spin-polarized. (C) 2012 American Institute of Physics. The encoding method uses gray levels of a 2D detector to encode a certain amount of original bits of the original data, and then sends them to a spatial light modulator (SLM) for encryption. The decoding method corrects the received gray levels to the original gray levels, and then compares the maximum gray level with the original gray levels to decode the original gray level into binary data. The proposed encoding and decoding method can better make use of storage locations of the 2D detector and get a code rate close to 1.Item type:Item, Preservation of Photoluminescence Efficiency in the Ordered phases of Poly(2,3-diphenyl-1,4-phenylenevinylene) via Disturbing the Intermolecular pi-pi Interactions with Dendritic Aliphatic Side Chains(2012-06-12) ;Wu, Yu-Chun ;Ren, Xiang-Kui ;Chen, Er-Qiang ;Lee, Hsun-MeiDuvail, Jean-LucTo understand the relation between the solid-state phase structures and the photophysical properties of poly(2,3-diphenyl-1,4-phenylenevinylene) (DP-PPV) derivatives, three DP-PPV derivatives, P1-P3, were designed, synthesized via Gilch polymerization and characterized. Among the polymers, PI is a reported highly emissive poly(2,3-diphenyl-5-hexyl-p-phenylenevinylene), and P2 and P3 are novel DP-PPV derivatives, which are purposely designed to bear hydrophobic and hydrophilic Percec-type dendrons as side chains. The bulkiness and hydrophobic hydrophilic natures of the side chains show strong effects on photophysical properties of the polymers. The solutions and as-casted films of P1-F3 all show remarkably high photoluminescence (PL) efficiency (Phi(PL)) (>80% in chloroform solution, and >63% for the as-casted films). However, Phi(PL) of P1 and P3 decrease significantly to 30% after cooled their polymer melts to room temperature. Through the phase behavior analysis by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and phase structure analysis by wide-angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD), the decrease of Phi(PL) can be elucidated and attributed to the ordering of the solid-state structures of PI and P3. To our surprise, Phi(PL) of P2 is preserved even in an ordered solid-state phase, and it is insensitive to the structural ordering. Structural analysis of P2 revealed that the aliphatic dendritic side chains of P2 effectively disturbing the intermolecular pi-pi interactions among the conjugated backbones, which allows the preservation of Phi(PL) in the environment with ordered packing of DP-PPV molecules. The results of time-resolved PL decay experiments also confirmed that P2 possesses long-lived decay time because of excitons confined more effectively for emissive relaxation. Item type:Item, Phosphors and Light-Emitting Devices Using the Same(2012-06-14) ;CHEN Teng-MingKuo Te-WenThe present invention relates to novel phosphors, which are represented by a formula of (A1-xMx)8D12O24S2, wherein x, A, M and D are defined the same as the specification. Numerous mathematical models proposed in past years were very complicated. Furthermore, other neural networks models can not provide a certain equation for managers to use. Thus, a novel design of this paper is to construct a new wafer yield model with a handy polynomial by using group method of data handling (GMDH). In addition to defect cluster index (CIM), 12 critical electrical test parameters are also considered simultaneously. Because the number of input variables for GMDH is inadvisable to be too many, principal component analysis (PCA) is used to reduce the dimensions of 12 critical electrical test parameters to a manageable few without much loss of information. The proposed approach is validated by a case obtained in a DRAM company in Taiwan. (C) 2011 Elsevier Ltd. This study aims to develop a mathematical model to predict mole fraction distributions and migration of evaporation front for two VOCs emanating from residual non-aqueous phase liquid (NAPL) due to the leak from the tank in a homogeneous soil. Considering the location of the front and the regions above and below the front, a numerical model for the diffusive transport of VOCs in unsaturated soils was developed using the finite difference method with a moving grid approach. The model was further simplified to the case of single VOC and solved analytically by Boltzmann's transformation with a moving boundary. Analytical expressions for the depth and moving speed of the front for a single VOC were then obtained for practical use. Finally, the developed model was used to predict the concentration distributions of VOCs below the land surface and examine the factors affecting the location and moving speed of the evaporation front. We prove the global bifurcation of bifurcation curves for varying epsilon > 0. More precisely, there exists (epsilon) over tilde > 0 such that, on the (lambda, parallel to u parallel to infinity)-plane, the bifurcation curve is S-shaped for 0 < epsilon < (epsilon) over tilde and is monotone increasing for epsilon >= (epsilon) over tilde. Thus we are able to determine the exact number of positive solutions by the values of epsilon and lambda. Our results extend those of Hung and Wang (K.-C. Hung, S.-H. Wang, Global bifurcation and exact multiplicity of positive solutions for a positone problem with cubic nonlinearity and their applications, Trans. Amer. Math. Soc., in press) from kappa <= 0 to kappa <= root sigma rho. (C) 2012 Elsevier Inc. These attached carboxylic acid groups were further condensated with o-phenylene diamine into amide catalyzed by dicyclohexyl carbodiimide (DCC). The obtained amidized MWCNTs were in situ-polymerized with aniline monomers to graft a conducting polyaniline (PANI) onto MWCNT (ES-g-MWCNTs) through the polymerization occurring in the ortho- and meta-positions. The reduced conductivity of the MWCNT after carboxylation can be recovered after grafting with PANI, which owns a strong ?max at the near infrared region due to the extended conjugation from MWCNTs to PANI. Transmission electronic microscopic pictures show a gradual broadening of the MWCNT diameter after carboxylation, amidization, and polymerization. The weight loss from the thermogravimetric thermograms due to the carboxylations of MWCNTs, amidized MWCNTs, and the PANI grafted MWCNTs into CO2 can be used to estimate the degree of carboxylation, amidization, and grafting of PANI. The degree of carboxylation of MWCNT calculated from ESCA spectrum is around 23% close to that estimated from TGA thermogram. The doping level of redoped PANI-grafted MWCNT is found to be 27.78% much less than the maximum 50% of neat PANI. (c) 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. With the use of the grading layer, the conversion efficiency is markedly promoted due to the reduction of potential barrier height for holes and due to the decrease of polarization. Optimized conversion efficiency is obtained when the thickness of the grading layer increases to a critical value. This critical thickness is strongly influenced by the polarization charges and doping concentration of the grading layer. When the density of the polarization charges is high or the doping concentration is low, a thick grading layer is required to achieve high efficiency.Item type:Item, Effects of the PdO nanoflake support on electrocatalytic activity of Pt nanoparticles toward methanol oxidation in acidic solutions(2012-06-15) ;Chen, Chung-Shou ;Pan, Fu-Ming ;材料科學與工程學系Department of Materials Science and EngineeringWe prepared PdO nanoflake thin films on carbon cloths by reactive sputtering deposition, and studied electrocatalytic performance of Pt nanoparticles electrodeposited on the PdO thin film in methanol oxidation reaction (MOR) in acidic media. The PdO nanoflake thin film exhibits a cyclic voltamperometric (CV) behavior similar to metallic Pd electrodes because a metallic Pd surface layer is formed on the PdO thin film electrode under the CV measurement condition. The nanoflake morphology of the PdO electrode provides a large surface area for Pt nanoparticle loading, resulting in a large electrochemical active surface area (ESA). The Pt/PdO electrode has a high electrocatalytic activity toward MOR, and the good electrocatalytic performance of the Pt/PdO electrode is ascribed to a high CO tolerance and the large ESA. We suggest that the high CO tolerance of the catalyst on the Pt/PdO electrode is a result of the synergism of the bifunctional mechanism and the electronic effect. XPS analyses indicate that negative charge transfer occurs from the PdO support to the Pt nanoparticles, indicating the presence of the electronic effect. Pt nanoparticles on the PdO support can greatly alleviate the nanoflake damage during the CV measurement, which results from anodic dissolution of metal Pd from the PdO support in acidic media.
