Item type:Item, Characterization of the Mechanodynamic Response of Cardiomyocytes with Atomic Force Microscopy(2013-02-05) ;Chang, Wei-Tien ;Yu, David ;Lai, Yu-Cheng ;Lin, Kuen-YouLiau, IanCharacterization of the Mechanodynamic Response of Cardiomyocytes with Atomic Force MicroscopyItem type:Item, Luminescence Enhancement of Pyrene/Dispersant Nanoarrays Driven by the Nanoscale Spatial Effect on Mixing(2013-02-05) ;Lo, Kuan-Hsin ;Li, Ming-Chia ;Ho, Rong-Ming ;Zhao, Yuan-ChunMassuyeau, FlorianThis work presents a simple method to generate ordered chromophore/dispersant nanoarrays through a pore-filling process for a nanoporous polymer template to enhance chromophore luminescence. Fluorescence results combining with the morphological evolution examined by scanning probe microscopy reveal that the enhanced luminescence intensity reaches the maximum intensity as the nanopores of the template are completely filled by the chromophore/dispersant mixture. The variation is attributed to nanoscale spatial effect on the enhanced mixing efficiency of chromophore and dispersant, that is, the alleviation of self-quenching problem, as evidenced by the results of attenuated total reflection Fourier transform IR spectroscopy combining with grazing incident wide-angle X-ray diffraction. The enhanced luminescence of the chromophore/dispersant nanoarrays driven by the nanoscale spatial effect is highly promising for use in designing luminescent nanodevices.Item type:Item, 交大e-News第135期(2013-02-05) ;Secretariat國立交通大學秘書室Item type:Item, Iris image definition estimation system using the astigmatism of the corneal reflection of a non-coaxial light source(2013-02-05)Shih Sheng-WenAn iris image definition estimation system using the astigmatism of the corneal reflection of a non-coaxial light source to assess both the resolution of the iris patterns and the direction of focus adjustment. The corneal reflection results in two virtual images on the meridional and the sagittal planes. These virtual images are formed behind the cornea and close to the iris. Yet, both are projected onto the same location and result in a composite glint area. In addition, the shape of the glint area of a non-coaxial light source varies with different camera focus settings. Furthermore, due to the high intensity of the glint area, the shape can be easily observed, and the size and the shape of the glint area can be used to determine the resolution of the iris image and the direction of focus adjustment, respectively.Item type:Item, Sensing device with arm actuating in seesaw approach(2013-02-05) ;Cheng Shih-Tung ;Chou Po-ChienLin Yu-ChengA sensing device including a base, a pillar, an arm, a sensing element and a driving module is provided. They were isolated from one pot reduction and intramolecular cyclization to afford quinoxalinone ring system with traceless cleavage of ionic liquid support. Besides, the ionic-supported other isomer was further cleaved in methanol. All the reactions were carried out on an ionic liquid support under various conditions to deliver biologically relevant scaffolds with high purity and excellent yields. (C) 2012 Elsevier Ltd. The large-scale mesoscopic transport is manifest as a parallel conduction channel to 2D variable range hopping, with a Coulomb quasigap around the Fermi level. The opening of the correlation quasigap, observable below 25 K through the temperature dependence of conductance, makes possible the exponential suppression of inelastic electron-electron scatterings and thereby leads to an observed dephasing length of 10 mu m. Pyridine and Cl-2 were co-deposited with p-H-2 at 3.2 K; a planar C5H5N-Cl-2 complex was identified from the observed infrared spectrum of the Cl-2/C5H5N/p-H-2 matrix. Upon irradiation at 365 nm to generate Cl atom in situ and annealing at 5.1 K for 3 min to induce secondary reaction, the 1-chloropyridinyl radical (C5H5N-Cl) was identified as the major product of the reaction Cl + C5H5N in solid p-H-2; absorption lines at 3075.9, 1449.7, 1200.6, 1148.8, 1069.3, 1017.4, 742.9, and 688.7 cm(-1) were observed. The assignments are based on comparison of observed vibrational wavenumbers and relative IR intensities with those predicted using the B3PW91/6-311++G(2d, 2p) method. The observation of the preferential addition of Cl to the N-site of pyridine to form C5H5N-Cl radical but not 2-, 3-, or 4-chloropyridine (ClC5H5N) radicals is consistent with the reported theoretical prediction that formation of the former proceeds via a barrierless path. Whereas the substitution of only fluorine in the RD12 device has an effect of enhancing the open-circuit voltage (V-OC), additional substitution of thiophene in the RD16-RD18 sensitizers showed a slightly decreased V-OC. Systematic enhanced short-circuit current density (J(SC)) and efficiency (eta) of power conversion of the devices had the order RD18 > RD17 > RD16 > RD12 > N719, attributed to the increasing light-harvesting ability and the broadened spectral features with thiophene-based ligands. Measurements of charge extraction and intensity-modulated photovoltage spectra indicate that thiophene substitution shifts downward the TiO2 potential and accelerates charge recombination, but inclusion of a long hexyl chain on the thiophene moiety retards charge recombination to account for the variation of V-OC in the series. For a duration test of device performance at ambient temperature, only similar to 2% degradation of cell performance was found for the devices of RD18 and RD12 over 2000 h, but a 10% decrease in overall efficiency was observed in the N719 device.Item type:Item, Interfacial charge carrier dynamics of type-II semiconductor nanoheterostructures(2013-02-07) ;Lin, Yi-Fang ;Hsu, Yung-Jung ;材料科學與工程學系Department of Materials Science and EngineeringSemiconductor nanoheterostructures with type-II band offset have exhibited unique optoelectronic properties that are beneficial to photoconversion applications. Debatable arguments however exist in the literature for interpreting the most enhanced photocatalytic performance of type-II semiconductor nanoheterostructures when an optimal content of the constituents is employed. In this work, time-resolved photoluminescence is used to investigate the interfacial charge carrier dynamics for CdSnO3-decorated CdS nanowires, a prototype type-II nanoheterostructures system, with varying CdSnO3 contents. Our results show that the CdSnO3 content of 2.5 at% rendered CdS-CdSnO3 NWs the most significant charge carrier separation, above which electron hole recombination across CdS/CdSnO3 interface mediated carrier transfer to compromise the overall charge separation efficiency. The carrier dynamics results are in good accordance with that of photoconversion performance evaluation in dye photodegradation, which assists in resolving the very critical but still controversial issue as to the factors causing the depressed photocatalytic efficiency of type-II nanoheterostructures when the constituent content exceeds the optimal value. Performing the calculation directly in the tight binding approach without the usual prior reduction to the massless Dirac (Weyl) theory, it is found that, to leading order in the interaction strength alpha = e(2)/(h) over barv(0), the dc conductivity sigma/sigma(0) = 1 + C alpha + O(alpha(2)) is significantly enhanced with respect to the independent-electron result sigma(0), i.e., with the value C = 0.26. The ambiguity characterizing the various existing approaches is nontrivial and related to the chiral anomaly in the system. In order to separate the energy scales in a model with massless fermions, contributions from regions of the Brillouin zone away from the Dirac points have to be accounted for. Experimental consequences of the relatively strong interaction effect are briefly discussed. In flies and mice, the pseudogene transcripts can be processed into short interfering RNAs (siRNAs) that regulate protein-coding genes through the RNAi pathway. Following these findings, we construct an innovative and comprehensive database to elucidate siRNA-mediated mechanism in human transcribed pseudogenes (TPGs). To investigate TPG producing siRNAs that regulate protein-coding genes, we mapped the TPGs to small RNAs (sRNAs) that were supported by publicly deep sequencing data from various sRNA libraries and constructed the TPG-derived siRNA-target interactions. In addition, we also presented that TPGs can act as a target for miRNAs that actually regulate the parental gene. To enable the systematic compilation and updating of these results and additional information, we have developed a database, pseudoMap, capturing various types of information, including sequence data, TPG and cognate annotation, deep sequencing data, RNA-folding structure, gene expression profiles, miRNA annotation and target prediction. As our knowledge, pseudoMap is the first database to demonstrate two mechanisms of human TPGs: encoding siRNAs and decoying miRNAs that target the parental gene. pseudoMap is freely accessible at http://pseudomap.mbc.nctu.edu.tw/. This approach provides two major contributions: (1) increased synchronization efficiency, especially for parameters tracing and (2) a simpler controller design. Two simulated cases are presented for comparison: Case 1 utilizes normal adaptive synchronization, whereas Case 2 utilizes the Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model-based Lorenz systems to realize adaptive synchronization via the new adaptive scheme. The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness and feasibility of our new adaptive strategy. (C) 2012 Elsevier Inc. Although elevated blood glucose levels cause various immune problems, its effects on K. pneumoniae virulence are unknown. This study investigated the regulation of capsular polysaccharide (CPS) biosynthesis, a major determinant for K. pneumoniae virulence, in response to exogenous glucose. We found that K. pneumoniae produce more CPS in glucose-rich medium via reduction in cyclic AMP (cAMP) levels. Individual deletion of cyaA or crp, which respectively encode adenylate cyclase and cAMP receptor protein in K. pneumoniae, markedly increased CPS production, while deletion of cpdA, which encodes cAMP phosphodiesterase, decreased CPS production. These results indicate that K. pneumoniae CPS biosynthesis is controlled by the cAMP-dependent carbon catabolite repression (CCR). To investigate the underlying mechanism, quantitative real-time PCR and promoter-reporter assays were used to verify that the transcription of CPS biosynthesis genes, which are organized into 3 transcription units (orf1-2, orf3-15, and orf16-17), were activated by the deletion of crp. Sequence analysis revealed putative CRP binding sites located on Porf3-15 and Porf16-17, suggesting direct CRP-cAMP regulation on the promoters. These results were then confirmed by electrophoretic mobility shift assay. In addition, we found putative CRP binding sites located in the promoter region of rcsA, which encodes a cps transcriptional activator, demonstrating a direct repression of CRP-cAMP and P-rcsA. The deletion of rcsA in mutation of crp partially reduced CPS biosynthesis and the transcription of orf1-2 but not of orf3-15 or orf16-17. These results suggest that RcsA participates in the CRP-cAMP regulation of orf1-2 transcription and influences CPS biosynthesis. Finally, the effect of glucose and CCR proteins on CPS biosynthesis also reflects bacterial resistance to serum killing. We here provide evidence that K. pneumoniae increases CPS biosynthesis for successful infection in response to exogenous glucose via cAMP-dependent CCR.Item type:Item, Item type:Item, Influence of structural anisotropy to anisotropic electron mobility in a-plane InN(2013-02-11) ;Ahn, H. ;Chia, J. -W. ;Lee, H. -M. ;Gwo, S.光電工程學系This study reports on the anisotropic electron transport properties and a correlation between the electron mobility (mu) and the stacking faults (SFs) in the a-plane InN film. Electron mobilities measured by terahertz time-domain spectroscopy and Hall effect measurement along the in-plane [(1) over bar 100] (c(perpendicular to)) orientation were much higher than those of the in-plane [0001] (c(parallel to)) orientation. This result shows a sharp contrast to higher defect density for the c(perpendicular to) orientation as measured by x-ray diffraction. The electrons transporting through the planar SFs aligned along the c(perpendicular to) direction are expected to experience more scattering by defects, resulting in lower mu for the c(parallel to) orientation.
