Item type:Item, Mobility management with the central-based location area policy(2013-03-13) ;Liou, Ren-Huang ;Lin, Yi-Bing ;資訊工程學系Department of Computer ScienceIn Long Term Evolution (LTE), the cells (the radio coverages of base stations) are grouped into the Tracking Areas (TAs), and the TAs are further grouped into the TA List (TAL). The location of the User Equipment (UE) is tracked at the TAL level. To better capture the "movement locality" of the UE, when the UE leaves the current TAL, the UE is assigned a new TAL whose central TA is the TA where the UE currently resides. This paper investigates the performance of the central-based LTE mobility management scheme, and compares this scheme with the previously proposed central-based mobility management schemes: the movement-based and the distance-based schemes. Our study indicates that under some traffic/mobility patterns, the LTE scheme yields the best performance. (C) 2012 Elsevier B.V. Two spirobifluorene derivatives, [2,7-bis(2,2-diphenylvinyl)-9,9'-spirobifluorene] (DPVSBF) and [2,7-bis(1,2,2-triphenylvinyl)-9,9'-spirobifluorene] (TPVSBF), were doped with the red phosphor complex [Os(bpftz)(2)(PPh2Me)(2)] (Os-R). The two hosts exhibit similar host-to-guest energy transfer efficiencies; however, the backward energy transfer from the Os-R complex to TPVSBF is slower than that from Os-R to DPVSBF. Quantum chemical calculations suggest that the backward energy transfer dynamics are related to the host's triplet-state energy level. The greater energy of the TPVSBF triplet state compared to that of DPVSBF plays a crucial role in its ability to confine triplet excitons in Os-R. (C) 2013 Elsevier B. V. With Rice-Ramsperger-Kassel-Marcus theory and ab initio calculations, we have computed their dissociation and isomerization rate constants separately under the harmonic and anharmonic oscillator models. On the basis of the dissociation and isomerization rate constants, branching ratios of two primary products, [HD2O+]/[H2DO+], are predicted under various kinetics models with the harmonic or anharmonic approximation included. The feasible kinetics model accounting for experimental results is shown to include anharmonic effect in describing dissociation, while adopting harmonic approximation for isomerization. Thus, the anharmonic effect is found to play important roles affecting the dissociation reaction, while isomerization rates are shown to be insensitive to whether the anharmonic or harmonic oscillator model is being applied. However, with the recent size downscaling, ultrathin SiO2 is no longer suitable. ZrO2 has been introduced as a high-k dielectric to replace SiO2. This paper reviews recent progress of ZrO2 thin films as dielectric layers for volatile dynamic random access memory ( DRAM) applications and as a gate dielectric for CMOS devices. Materials and electrical properties of ZrO2 films obtained by different deposition methods are compared. The effects of different top and bottom electrodes, and different doping elements, on ZrO2 dielectric properties are described. Applications discussed include the use of ZrO2 in Ge and SiGe nanocrystal-embedded nonvolatile flash memory devices. ZrO2 films as charge trapping layers in SOZOS (poly-Si/SiO2/ZrO2/SiO2/Si) and TAZOS (TaN/Al2O3/ZrO2/SiO2/Si) based nonvolatile flash memory stacks, and bipolar, unipolar, and nonpolar ZrO2-based resistive switching memory devices are also briefly discussed. The impact of electrode materials, metal nanocrystals, metal implantation, metal doping, metal layers, and oxide ion conductor buffer layer on resistive switching properties and switching parameters of emerging ZrO2-based resistive switching memory devices for high speed, low power, nanoscale, nonvolatile memory devices are briefly reviewed. A roadmap of the applications of ZrO2 thin film in future low power, nanoscale microelectronic device applications is realized from this review. (c) 2013 Elsevier B.V. The resultant activated carbon/Nafion hybrid composite exhibits high water uptake and an improved proton conductivity, which can be exploited in a proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC). This hybrid membrane displays a superior performance to that of the commercial Nation 211 when used in fuel-cell measurements. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) is used to simulate the changes in resistance during the operation of the fuel cells and conclusively explains the improved performance of the composite membranes. C. ;Suresh, P.Thangaraj, K.A nonlinear optical crystal of N-Glycyl-L-Valine (GV) single crystals was grown by slow evaporation solution growth technique from an aqueous solution. The unit cell parameters and the crystal structure were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction study. The Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and proton nuclear magnetic resonance (H-1 NMR) spectral studies were carried out to identify the functional groups of the grown crystals. The ultraviolet visible near infrared (UV-Vis-NIR) spectrum was recorded to study the optical transparency of the grown crystal. The thermogravimetric (TG) and differential thermal (DTA) analyses revealed the thermal stability of the sample. The presence of second harmonic generation (SHG) for the grown crystal was confirmed by Kurtz-Perry powder technique. (C) 2012 Elsevier B.V. Different orders of harmonic mode-locking can be obtained from 30 MHz to 12.02 GHz by changing the injection current of the SOA from 80 to 660 mA together with the adjustment of polarization controllers. The highest pulse repetition rate increases almost linearly with the SOA current. As SOA current is set to 660 mA, we obtain the intracavity power of 46 mW at the highest repetition rate of 12.02 GHz, corresponding to the 1202th harmonic of the fundamental mode-locking frequency. To our best knowledge, this is the lowest intracavity power to generate the highest repetition rate with a passively mode-locked laser in the all-normal-dispersion regime. S. ;Tai, Y. T. ;工業工程與管理學系Department of Industrial Engineering and ManagementThe burn-in test scheduling problem (BTSP) is a variation of the complex batch processing machine scheduling problem, which is also a generalisation of the liquid crystal injection scheduling problem with incompatible product families and classical identical parallel machine problem. In the case we investigated on the BTSP, the jobs are clustered by their product families. The product families can be clustered by different product groups. In the same product group, jobs with different product families can be processed as a batch. The batch processing time is dependent on the longest processing time of those jobs in that batch. Setup times between two consecutive batches of different product groups on the same batch machine are sequentially dependent. In addition, the unequal ready times are considered in the BTSP which involves the decisions of batch formation and batch scheduling in order to minimise the total machine workload without violating due dates and the limited machine capacity restrictions. Since the BTSP involves constraints on unequal ready time, batch dependent processing time, and sequence dependent setup times, it is more difficult to solve than the classical parallel batch processing machine scheduling problem with compatible product families or incompatible product families. These restrictions mean that the existing methods cannot be applied into real-world factories directly. Consequently, this paper proposes a mixed integer programming model to solve the BTSP exactly. In addition, two efficient solution procedures which solve the BTSP are also presented.Item type:Item, Direct observation of quasi-coherent thermal emission by a three-dimensional metallic photonic crystal(2013-03-15) ;Hsieh, Mei-Li ;Bur, James ;Kim, Yong-Sung ;Lin, Shawn-Yu光電工程學系We report a direct observation of a quasi-coherent thermal emission from a heated three-dimensional photonic-crystal sample. While the sample was under Joule heating, we observed multiple oscillations in its emission interferogram and deduced a coherent length of L-coh congruent to 20-40 mu m, 5-10 times longer than that of a blackbody at comparable wavelengths. The observed, relatively long coherent length is attributed to coupling of thermal emission into lossy Bloch modes that oscillate coherently over a distance determined by decay length and the slow light nature of Bloch modes at the band-edges. Various neutralized nucleic acids have been demonstrated as alternative and attractive probe for the design of a DNA chip. However, the mechanism of the improvements has not been clearly revealed. In this investigation, we used a newly developed neutral ethylated DNA (E-DNA), a DNA analog with the "RO-P-O" backbone (wherein R could be methyl, ethyl, aryl, or alkyl group) obtained from synthetic procedures, and a silicon nanowire (SiNW) field-effect transistor (FET) to evaluate the difference in DNA detection performance while using E-DNA and DNA as probes. It is demonstrated that using the E-DNA probe in the FET measurement could have a significantly enhanced effect upon the detection sensitivity. Surface plasmon resonance imaging (SPRi) was used to evidence the mechanism of the improved detection sensitivity. SPRi analysis showed the amounts of probe immobilization on the sensor surface and the hybridization efficiency were both enhanced with the use of E-DNA. Consequently, neutral ethylated DNA probe hold a great promise for DNA sensing, especially in the electrical-based sensor. (C) 2012 Elsevier B.V. In this study, we demonstrated a facile approach for generating glycan-bound gold nanoclusters (AuNCs). The generated AuNCs were used as sensing probes for corresponding target bacteria. Mannose-capped AuNCs (AuNCs@Mann) were generated and used as the model sensors for target bacteria. A one-step synthesis approach was employed to generate AuNCs@Mann. In this approach, an aqueous solution of tetrachloroauric acid and mannoside that functionized with a thiol group (Mann-SH) was stirred at room temperature for 48 h. The mannoside functions as reducing and capping agent. The size of the generated AuNCs@Mann is 1.95 +/- 0.27 nm, whereas the AuNCs with red photoluminescence have a maximum emission wavelength of similar to 630 nm (lambda(excitation) = 375 nm). The synthesis of the AuNCs@Mann was accelerated by microwave heating, which enabled the synthesis of the AuNCs@Mann to complete within 1 h. The generated AuNCs@Mann are capable of selectively binding to the urinary tract infection isolate Escherichia coli J96 containing the mannose binding protein FimH expressed on the type 1 pili. On the basis of the naked eye observation, the limit of detection of the sensing approach is as low as similar to 2 x 10(6) cells/mL.Item type:Item, Analysis of optical properties in cylindrical dielectric photonic crystal(2013-03-15) ;Hu, Chung-An ;Wu, Chien-Jang ;Yang, Tzong-Jer ;Yang, Su-Lin電子物理學系In this work, theoretical formulas for the H-polarization electromagnetic propagation in a cylindrical multilayer structure (CMS) are given. The relationships between two modes, H- and E-polarization are pointed out. With the derived formulae, we present the numerical results for three model structures such as the single cylindrical interface, the single cylindrical slab, and the cylindrical photonic crystal (CPC). In the single cylindrical interface, it is found that there exists a Brewster starting radius at which a minimum reflectance is attained in H-polarization. In the single cylindrical slab, the result illustrates that the reflectance response in the wavelength domain contains the oscillating and nonoscillating regions. As for the CPC, we find the PBG structure at zero azimuthal mode number is very similar to that of planar photonic crystal. The PBG, however, can be strongly influenced by increasing the azimuthal mode number in a CPC. (C) 2012 Elsevier B.V. N. ;土木工程學系Department of Civil EngineeringThe electroelastic singularities at the vertex of a rectilinearly polarized piezoelectric wedge are investigated using three-dimensional piezoelasticity theory. An eigenfunction expansion approach is combined with a power series solution technique to find the asymptotic solutions at the vertex of the wedge by directly solving the three-dimensional equilibrium and Maxwell's equations in terms of the displacement components and electric potential. This study is the first to address the problems in which the polarization direction of the piezoelectric material is not necessarily either parallel to the normal of the mid-plane of wedge or in the mid-plane. The correctness of the proposed solution is verified by convergence studies and comparison with the published results that are based on generalized plan strain assumption. The solution is further employed to study comprehensively the effect of the direction of polarization on the electroelastic singularities of wedges that contain a single material (PZT-5H), bounded piezo/isotropic elastic materials (PZT-5H/Si), or piezo/piezo materials (PZT-5H/PZT-4). The gate materials, buffer concentration and surface condition of graphene have been optimized to achieve the DNA detection sensitivity as low as 1 pM (10(-12) M), which is more sensitive than the existing report based on few-layer graphene. The graphene films obtained using conventional PMMA-assisted transfer technique exhibits PMMA residues, which degrade the sensing performance of graphene. We have demonstrated that the sensing performance of the graphene samples prepared by gold-transfer is largely enhanced (by 125%). (C) 2012 Elsevier B.V.
