Catalytic function of a newly purified exo-beta-D-glucosaminidase from the entomopathogenic fungus Paecilomyces lilacinus

An entomopathogenic fungus, Paecilomyces lilacinus, was found to grow on chitosanase-detecting plates. Besides an endo-chitosanase, an exo-beta-D-glucosaminidase was purified by cation-exchange chromatography from this microorganism cultivated in M9 minimal media containing 0.5% chitosan as the sole carbon source. The molecular weight of the enzyme is 95 kDa; the optimum pH and temperature for activity are 6.0 and 45 degrees C, respectively. The purified exo-beta-D-GlcNase promotes the hydrolysis of 95% deacetylated chitosan from its non-reducing end and liberates 2-amino-2-deoxy-D-glucopyranose (GlcN) as the sole product; however, 2-acetamido-2-deoxy-D-glucopyranose (GlcNAc) was not detected when chitin was used as the substrate. The cleavage pattern confirmed using real-time mass spectrometry shows that exo-beta-D-glucosaminidase cleaves the glycosidic bonds between GlcN-GlcN and GlcN-GlcNAc but not between GlcNAc-GlcN or GlcNAc-GlcNAc. In the presence of a 10% solution of various alcohols, many alkyl-beta-D-glucosaminides were obtained, indicating that exo-beta-D-glucosaminidase is a retaining enzyme. (c) 2012 Elsevier Ltd. METHOD FOR IDENTIFYING STIMULATION TARGET

A method for identifying a stimulation target is provided, which uses microelectrode recording and electrical impedance tomography techniques together in a composite probe. The composite probe includes at least a microelectrode recording sensor and a plurality of microelectrodes, so that after the composite probe is guided and implanted to a depth suitable for the stimulation target based on microelectrode recording signals, tissue structures surrounding the composite probe are delineated by using the plurality of microelectrodes, and the boundary of the stimulation target and the precise location of the composite probe within the stimulation target are determined. Accordingly, the present invention provides a quick and accurate direction for surgeons, eliminating the problem of not knowing the exact location of the implanted probe within the stimulation target as in the case during deep brain stimulation surgeries.

The integrated antenna includes a first resonant element disposed on a chip, and receiving a first signal having a frequency from the chip; and a second resonant element disposed on a substrate, wherein the chip is disposed on the substrate, and the first signal enables a non-contact resonant coupling to be established between the first resonant element and the second resonant element due to the frequency to cause the second resonant element to generate and radiate a second signal.

A method to determine a fiducial point for holographic data storage is disclosed, which utilizes a gray-level frame to sequentially retrieve a regional image used as a retrieved image with the size equal to that of the frame from a received gray-level image. The gray-level frame is compared with each retrieved image to obtain a plurality of values and construct a 2D proto-matrix. The 2D proto-matrix is transformed into a 2D matrix via letting the values smaller than 0 be 0. The 2D matrix and a retrieving matrix, which has a dimensionality equal to or smaller than that of the frame, are used to obtain an anchor matrix. A greatest value in the central region of the 2D matrix is found to function as an anchor value according to the anchor matrix, thereby find a fiducial point in the gray-level image.

Palladium-catalyzed oxidative carbonylation of N-sulfonyl-2-aminobiaryls through C-H bond activation and C-C, C-N bond formation under TFA-free and milder conditions has been developed. The reaction tolerates a variety of substrates and provides biologically important phenanthrldlnone derivatives in yields up to 94%.

We present the first lattice QCD determination of the Lambda(b) -> Lambda transition form factors that govern the rare baryonic decays Lambda(b) -> Lambda l(+)l(-) at leading order in heavy-quark effective theory. Our calculations are performed with 2 + 1 flavors of domain-wall fermions, at two lattice spacings and with pion masses down to 227 MeV. Three-point functions with a wide range of source-sink separations are used to extract the ground-state contributions. The form factors are extrapolated to the physical values of the light-quark masses and to the continuum limit. We use our results to calculate the differential branching fractions for Lambda(b) -> Lambda l(+)l(-) with l = e, mu, tau within the standard model. We find agreement with a recent CDF measurement of the Lambda(b) -> Lambda mu(+)mu(-) differential branching fraction. DOI: 10.1103/PhysRevD.87.074502

中國大陸的H7N9禽流感疫情越演越烈，相繼有人受到感染。雖然當地政府已經下令銷毀禽類雞隻，但不能滅絕所有病毒源頭。雖然台灣不是疫區，但是不排除鳥類等傳播。市民要注意自己的個人衛生，千萬不要接觸禽鳥、喂飼野鴿等。
