Valley-dependent resonant inelastic transmission through a time-modulated region in graphene

We investigate resonant sideband processes in the transmission through a time-modulated-potential region in graphene. Valley-dependent features in the time-dependent transmission due to trigonal-warping effects in the electronic structures are explored within a tight-binding model. Three main results obtained are dip structures in the transmission, valley dependence of the dip structures, and nontypical-Fabry-Perot behavior in the dip-structure amplitudes. Dip structures in the transmission are obtained when a relevant band edge is available for the sideband processes. The relevant band edges are shown to become valley dependent, when the incident flow is formed from states of the same group-velocity direction. This is a consequence of the trigonal-warping effects, and it leads to the valley dependence in the dip structures. The dip-structure amplitudes, on the other hand, are found to exhibit a nontypical Fabry-Perot oscillatory behavior, in their dependence on the width of the time-modulated region. This is shown, in our multiple sideband scattering analysis, to result from resonant sideband processes to a relevant band edge. As such, the nontypical Fabry-Perot oscillatory behavior serves as another evidence for the key role the relevant band edges play in the transmission dip structures.

課程首頁本課程是由交通大學新文藝復興閱讀計畫提供。 96 年 8 月當各大學紛紛摩拳擦掌準備迎接新生的同時，交通大學校長吳重雨則因為一則來自於七月份泰晤士報，有關於英國首相布朗公布其夏日讀書清單的新聞中，看到了他對知識的尊重。在這同時，吳重雨校長也思考著，要如何為學生準備追求知識的環境和激發他們對知識的尊重與喜愛。台積電張忠謀董事長曾陳述他 18 歲進入哈佛那一年，博覽文史哲理工經典群籍，至此奠定了他求知的基礎，並借海明威名言，將其改為「哈佛這一年為人生可帶走的盛宴。」吳重雨校長以張董事長的學習為借鏡，認為學生固然能藉由自我閱讀的方式學習到豐沛的知識，但透過名人、大師親臨現場地介紹經典書籍，更能加深學子們對於書籍的認識與興趣，這也是「新文藝復興閱讀計劃」 ( 以下簡稱 : 「經典名著選讀」 ) 活動展開籌劃的緣由。於是，吳重雨校長便積極敦請「交大通識教育委員會」，接手籌備本計劃的相關活動，而該中心也成為實際施行本計畫的策動、開課以及認證單位。至此，期許交大學子藉由閱讀、聽講來提昇人文素養、開拓視野的「新文藝復興閱讀計劃」，就此展開。
Low repetition rate and broad frequency tuning from a grating-coupled passively mode-locked quantum dot laser

Passively mode-locked quantum dot lasers with a grating-coupled external cavity arrangement are investigated. A broad repetition-rate tuning range of fundamental mode-locking from 2GHz to a record-low frequency of 79.3 MHz is achieved with selecting the wavelength at 1.28 mu m. A narrow RF linewidth of similar to 25 Hz and an intrinsic linewidth as low as 0.15 Hz are also obtained. (C) 2013 AIP Publishing LLC.

An arithmetic module is provided, including a first adder, a first shifter coupled to the first adder, a multiplier coupled to the first shifter for receiving an external coefficient signal, a digit alignment unit coupled to the multiplier, a second adder coupled to the digit alignment unit, and a second shifter coupled to the second adder. The arithmetic module reduces the overall computation time effectively, as compared with a scalar processor, by employing a serial data connection design, and also significantly reduces power consumption of the digital signal processor by requiring fewer input and output ends than those of a multi-issue processor.

High performance of graphene oxide-doped silicon oxide-based resistance random access memory

In this letter, a double active layer (Zr:SiO (x) /C:SiO (x) ) resistive switching memory device with outstanding performance is presented. Through current fitting, hopping conduction mechanism is found in both high-resistance state (HRS) and low-resistance state (LRS) of double active layer RRAM devices. By analyzing Raman and FTIR spectra, we observed that graphene oxide exists in C:SiO (x) layer. Compared with single Zr:SiO (x) layer structure, Zr:SiO (x) /C:SiO (x) structure has superior performance, including low operating current, improved uniformity in both set and reset processes, and satisfactory endurance characteristics, all of which are attributed to the double-layer structure and the existence of graphene oxide flakes formed by the sputter process.
Single-incision vs three-incision laparoscopic cholecystectomy for complicated and uncomplicated acute cholecystitis

AIM: To compare the clinical outcome of single-incision laparoscopic cholecystectomy (SILC) and three-incision laparoscopic cholecystectomy (3ILC) for acute cholecystitis. METHODS: From July 2009 to September 2012, 136 patients underwent SILC or 3ILC for acute cholecystitis at a tertiary referral hospital. One experienced surgeon performed every procedure using 5 or 10 mm 30-degree laparoscopes, straight instruments, and conventional ports. Five patients with perforated gallbladder and diffuse peritonitis and 23 patients with mild acute cholecystitis were excluded. The remaining 108 patients were divided into complicated and uncomplicated groups according to pathologic findings. Patient demog-raphy, clinical data, operative results and complications were recorded and analyzed. RESULTS: Fifty patients with gangrenous cholecystitis, gallbladder empyema, or hydrops were classified as the complicated group, and 58 patients with acute cholecystitis were classified as the uncomplicated group. Twenty-three (46.0%) of the patients in the complicated group (n = 50) and 39 (67.2%) of the patients in the uncomplicated group (n = 58) underwent SILC; all others underwent 3ILC. The postoperative length of hospital stay (PLOS) was significantly shorter in the SILC subgroups than the 3ILC subgroups (3.5 +/- 1.1 d vs 4.6 +/- 1.3 d, P < 0.01 in the complicated group; 2.9 +/- 1.1 d vs 3.7 +/- 1.4 d, P < 0.05 in the uncomplicated group). The maximum body temperature recorded at day 1 and at day 2 following the procedure was lower in the SILC subgroups, but the difference reached statistical significance only in the uncomplicated group (37.41 +/- 0.56. vs 37.80 +/- 0.72., P < 0.05 on postoperative day 1; 37.10 +/- 0.43. vs 37.57 +/- 0.54., P < 0.01 on postoperative day 2). The operative time, estimated blood loss, postoperative narcotic use, total length of hospital stay, conversion rates, and complication rates were similar in both SILC and 3ILC subgroups. The complicated group had longer operative time (122.2 +/- 35.0 min vs 106.6 +/- 43.6 min, P < 0.05), longer PLOS (4.1 +/- 1.3 d vs 3.2 +/- 1.2 d, P < 0.001), and higher conversion rates (36.0% vs 19.0%, P < 0.05) compared with the uncomplicated group. CONCLUSION: SILC is safe and efficacious for patients with acute cholecystitis. The main benefit is a faster recovery than that achieved with 3ILC. (C) 2013 Baishideng Publishing Group Co., Limited. RRSM with a data-dependent threshold for miRNA target prediction

Predicting miRNA target genes is one of the important issues in bioinformatics. The correlation analysis is a widely used method for exploring miRNA targets through microarray data. However, the experimental results show that correlation analysis leads to large false positive or negative results. In addition, the correlation analysis is not appropriate when multiple miRNAs simultaneously regulate a gene. Recently, the relative R squared method (RRSM) has been proposed for miRNA target prediction, which is shown to be superior to some existing methods. To adopt the RRSM, we need first to set thresholds to select a proportion of potential targets. In the previous studies, the threshold is set to be fixed, which does not depend on the characteristic of a gene. Due to the diversity of the functions of genes, a data-dependent threshold may be more feasible in real data applications than a data-independent threshold. In this study, we propose a threshold selection method which is based on the distribution of the relative R squared statistic. The proposed method is shown to significantly improve the previous prediction results by selecting more experimentally validated targets. (C) 2013 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

本發明係揭露一種用於可調式視訊編碼系統之選擇性移動向量預測方法、移動估測方法及其裝置。此選擇性移動向量預測方法包含下列步驟：執行一畫面間預測機制以取得第一移動向量預測中心值，接著執行一層間移動向量預測機制以取得第二移動向量預測中心值；若兩個移動向量預測中心值符合預設條件，則使用相同的參考資料來計算畫面間預測機制及層間移動向量預測機制的位元率失真成本值，根據位元率失真成本值來選擇使用哪一種預測機制於此可調式視訊編碼系統。藉由共用參考資料來減少編碼時記憶體存取，以降低記憶體的存取成本及功率消耗。
