One-dimensional photonic crystal fishbone hybrid nanocavity with nanoposts

We propose and investigate a one-dimensional photonic crystal (PhC) fishbone (FB) hybrid nanocavity lying on silver substrate with a horizontal air slot. With very few PhC periods, the confined transverse-magnetic, TM10 hybrid mode concentrated within the air slot shows high quality factor over effective mode volume ratio larger than 10(5) lambda(-3). Most importantly, this FB hybrid nanocavity allows formation of low-index nanoposts within the air slot without significantly affecting the mode properties. These nanoposts guarantee the structural stabilities under different environmental perturbations. Furthermore, capabilities of our proposed design in serving as optical sensors and tweezers for bio-sized nanoparticles are also investigated. (C) 2014 AIP Publishing LLC.

A wastewater treatment method using annularly arranged microorganism carriers in a reaction tank, which defines therein an upper reaction area, a lower reaction area and a passage area surrounded by the microorganism carriers and kept in communication between the upper reaction area and the lower reaction area. Microorganisms including nitrifying bacteria and autotrophic denitrifying bacteria are attached to the surface of each microorganisms carriers and suspending in the water of the reaction tank for causing Anammox reaction to convert NH4+ and NO2− in wastewater into nitrogen gas, achieving removal of total nitrogen compounds from water. The microorganism carriers are used to retain microorganisms in the reaction tank, enhancing the treatment efficiency.

A vertical electro-optical component and a method for forming the same are provided. The vertical electro-optical component includes a substrate, a first electrode layer formed on the substrate, a patterned insulating layer formed on the first electrode layer, a metal layer formed on the patterned insulating layer, a semiconductor layer formed on the first electrode layer, and a second electrode layer formed on the semiconductor layer, wherein the semiconductor layer encapsulates the patterned insulating layer and the metal layer. The vertical electro-optical component thus has a low operational voltage of a vertical transistor and a high reaction speed of a photo diode, and may be used to form light-emitting transistors.

The present invention provides a vertical type sensor, including a substrate; a first electrode formed on the substrate; a sensing layer formed on the first electrode layer and reactive to a target substance, wherein the first electrode layer is interposed between the substrate and the sensing layer; and a second electrode layer formed on the sensing layer and having a plurality of openings, wherein the sensing layer is interposed between the first electrode layer and the second electrode layer, and the target substance contacts the sensing layer via the plurality of openings. The vertical type sensor of the present invention provides instant, sensitive and rapid detection.
Functional Production of a Soluble and Secreted Single-Chain Antibody by a Bacterial Secretion System

Single-chain variable fragments (scFvs) serve as an alternative to full-length monoclonal antibodies used in research and therapeutic and diagnostic applications. However, when recombinant scFvs are overexpressed in bacteria, they often form inclusion bodies and exhibit loss of function. To overcome this problem, we developed an scFv secretion system in which scFv was fused with osmotically inducible protein Y (osmY), a bacterial secretory carrier protein, for efficient protein secretion. Anti-EGFR scFv (alpha EGFR) was fused with osmY (N- and C-termini) and periplasmic leader sequence (pelB) to generate alpha EGFR-osmY, osmY-alpha EGFR, and pelB-alpha EGFR (control), respectively. In comparison with the control, both the osmY-fused alpha EGFR scFvs were soluble and secreted into the LB medium. Furthermore, the yield of soluble alpha EGFR-osmY was 20-fold higher, and the amount of secreted protein was 250-fold higher than that of osmY-alpha EGFR. In addition, the antigenbinding activity of both the osmY-fused alpha EGFRs was 2-fold higher than that of the refolded pelB-alpha EGFR from inclusion bodies. Similar results were observed with alpha TAG72-osmY and alpha Her2-osmY. These results suggest that the N-terminus of osmY fused with scFv produces a high yield of soluble, functional, and secreted scFv, and the osmY-based bacterial secretion system may be used for the large-scale industrial production of low-cost alpha EGFRprotein.

The present invention provides a multi-phase inverter control device and a current control method for the same. The multi-phase inverter control device comprises a discrete circuit receiving CT IOCCS, CT IOCS and CT LIVS, and converting them into a plurality of DT signals; a multi-dimensional quantization circuit calculating according to an MDFQCC (Multi-Dimensional Feedback Quantization Current Control) algorithm to obtain DT IOVS for determining a plurality of switching signals; a driver circuit receiving the switching signals, and converting the switching signals into a plurality of switch driving signals; and an inverter circuit receiving the switch driving signals to output voltage across the load. The present invention decreases switching frequency, reduces switching loss and controls the inverter to output current efficiently.

「火焰蟲，唧唧蟲……」輕快的客家兒歌，在教室裡朗朗傳唱，站在講台上的是今年剛取得博士學位，進入交通大學教授客語的賴文英。清澈的眼神，還有總是紮起的馬尾，似乎為她認真的教學風格做了鮮明的標示。賴文英先後於「高雄師範大學台灣語言及教學研究所」、「新竹教育大學台灣語文及語言教育研究所」完成碩、博士學位，皆以研究客語為主。但她在考研究所之前，從沒想過以後會用自己的語言來教學，並把語言當成吃飯的工具。賴文英在大學時念的是圖書館學系，畢業之後在文化大學圖書館工作了十年。因為大學有寒暑假，賴文英幾乎年年出國，在琉球、菲律賓、香港、英國、美東、北京等地都留過足跡。除此之外，她也養成了畫國畫（工筆花鳥畫）、攝影、文學等興趣，這些興趣讓她的視野寬廣，然而她很清楚，這些興趣永遠只是興趣，不會變成謀生的工具。

蓄著大大的霸子，有著粗獷的外表，這大概是每個人對他的第一印象。但與他外型差距甚大的是，由他唱出來的客語歌，竟是柔和且情感豐沛的音律，這就是謝宇威。拿過第十五屆金曲獎最佳客語演唱人獎的謝宇威，是個在台北生長的客家人，他從小說住在台北，老家則在苗栗新屋。謝宇威很慶幸小時候是跟阿公阿婆住，所以即使是住在台北這樣的大都市，但在家中、上幼雅圖前都是講客家話，才能一直接觸到客家文化。謝宇威從小說知道自己是客家人，也沒特別想過跟其他族群有什麼樣的關係，小時候他的心裡認為族群間是不用畫分那麼清楚的，也因為他小時往家前面是閩南宗族的四合院，旁邊則是縣令司令部的眷村，那時他看到的族群是很和諧相處的，同時也不認為客家有什麼不一樣的地方。

走進竹北客家文化園區，彷彿從一個繁華鬧市中，驟然闖進了一個寧靜的小鄉村裡。在這裡，人們注意到一個散發著清新氣息的客籍作曲家——陳永淘。陳永淘出生於一九五六年關西鎮的南門鎮，上天賦予他客家人的身份，也賦予了他音樂的天份。從小在農村長大的他，每天可以在寬闊的樹林裡與那清澈的溪水一起唱唱歌，培養了陳永淘熱愛大自然的那份情懷。再加上他的家族都很喜歡唱歌，在祖父母、父母的潛移默化下，客家民謠、山歌成為他小時候的回憶，也激發了他對音樂的熱情。

DNA mimic proteins have DNA-like negative surface charge distributions, and they function by occupying the DNA binding sites of DNA binding proteins to prevent these sites from being accessed by DNA. DNA mimic proteins control the activities of a variety of DNA binding proteins and are involved in a wide range of cellular mechanisms such as chromatin assembly, DNA repair, transcription regulation, and gene recombination. However, the sequences and structures of DNA mimic proteins are diverse, making them difficult to predict by bioinformatic search. To date, only a few DNA mimic proteins have been reported. These DNA mimics were not found by searching for functional motifs in their sequences but were revealed only by structural analysis of their charge distribution. This review highlights the biological roles and structures of 16 reported DNA mimic proteins. We also discuss approaches that might be used to discover new DNA mimic proteins.

豪邁的笑聲傳遍鄰里，爽朗的個性令人印象深刻，當遇見她時，就可以輕易的被她吸引，她，就是陳金莉，大家都叫她「阿莉」，出生於苗栗縣大湖鄉的傳統客家庄——水流東。阿莉在三十年前嫁給閩南籍的先生謝吉祥，育有五女，現定居於苗栗縣的傳統閩南村落。不管是海陸腔或四縣腔的客家話，或是閩南語都難不倒她，在她身上，也完全看不到閩客之間的差異與不適。

The method includes steps of providing a substrate and an organic material; coating the organic material onto the substrate; heating the substrate to form a first carrier transport layer; doping a material having a metal ion to an organic solvent to form an organic solution; and applying the organic solution onto the first carrier transport layer to form a second carrier transport layer.
