Item type:Item, Dextran-encapsulated photoluminescent gold nanoclusters: synthesis and application(2014-06-17) ;Chiu, Wei-Ju ;Chen, Wei-Yu ;Lai, Hong-Zheng ;Wu, Ching-YiChiang, Hsiang-LinDextrans are widely used as additives in food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetics because of their hydrophilicity, biocompatibility, and low toxicity. These features allow the use of dextrans to modify the surface of nanoparticles to improve cell compatibility for biomedical applications. Additionally, dextran molecules covalently bound with fluorescent dyes are frequently used as tracers in animal studies. These facts show that dextrans are useful compounds for biomedicine-related applications and research. Our aim was to explore a facile way to generate dextran-derived nanoparticles with photoluminescent property for the use in fluorescence imaging of bacteria and cancer cells. Dextran-encapsulated gold nanoclusters (AuNCs@ dextran) were generated through a one-pot reaction by stirring dextrans and aqueous tetrachloroauric acid overnight. The generated AuNCs exhibit bright and green photoluminescence under the illumination of an ultraviolet lamp (lambda(max) = 365 nm), and high cell biocompatibility was found as well. Therefore, the generated AuNCs can be used as fluorescence tracers and nanoprobes. We explored the suitability of AuNCs@ dextran as labeling agents for bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. After the bacteria were labeled by AuNCs@ dextran, they became quite visible under a fluorescence microscope. Additionally, we demonstrated that nanocomposites composed of AuNCs@ dextran and silica beads can be readily internalized by cancer cells. The nanocomposites can be readily detected in the cells through their photoluminescence, suggesting possible applications in drug delivery and fluorescence imaging.Item type:Item, Ring oscillator(2014-06-17) ;Ho Ying-Chieh ;Yang Yu-ShengSu Chau-ChinA ring oscillator includes (2N+1) inverting delay circuit cells, and each delay circuit cell has an input port and an output port, where N is an integer larger than zero. In the method, an output switching circuit dynamically selects several conversion cells (at least containing know weight conversion cells (KWCC)) as a reference conversion cell group (RCCG) from all conversion cells, and dynamically selects at least one unknown weight conversion cell (UWCC) from all UWCCs. An ADC digitalizes the difference of the output of RCCG and the sum of the outputs of the UWCCs, and inputs the result to a digital controller. The digital controller controls the input of the RCCG according to the output of the ADC to make the output of the RCCG approximate the output of the UWCC. The digital controller uses the outputs of the ADC to work out the actual weights of the UWCCs and stores the actual weights in a calibration memory.Item type:Item, Toward a new cognitive neuroscience: modeling natural brain dynamics(2014-06-19) ;Gramann, Klaus ;Jung, Tzyy-Ping ;Ferris, Daniel P. ;Lin, Chin-TengMakeig, ScottItem type:Item, MUSIC PLAYING SYSTEM AND MUSIC PLAYING METHOD BASED ON SPEECH EMOTION RECOGNITION(2014-06-19) ;Song Kai-TaiCervantes CarlosA music playing system and a music playing method suitable for playing music based on speech emotion recognition are provided. In recent years, a novel approach for emotion recognition has been reported, which is by keystroke dynamics. This approach can be considered to be rather desirable in HCI because the data used is rather non-intrusive and easy to obtain. However, there were only limited investigations about the phenomenon itself in previous studies. This study aims to examine the source of variance in keystroke typing patterns caused by emotions. Methods: A controlled experiment to collect subjects' keystroke data in different emotional states induced by International Affective Picture System (IAPS) was conducted. Two-way Valence (3) x Arousal (3) ANOVAs were used to examine the collected dataset. Results: The results of the experiment indicate that the effect of emotion is significant (p < .001) in the keystroke duration, keystroke latency, and accuracy rate of the keyboard typing. However, the size of the emotional effect is small, compare to the individual variability. Conclusions: Our findings support the conclusion that the keystroke duration, keystroke latency, and also the accuracy rate of typing, are influenced by emotional states. Notably, the finding about the size of effect suggests that the accuracy rate of the emotion recognition could be further improved if personalized models are utilized. On the other hand, the finding also provides an explanation of why real-world applications which authenticate the identity of users by monitoring keystrokes may not be interfered by the emotional states of users. The experiment was conducted using standard instruments and hence is expected to be highly reproducible.Item type:Item, 交大e-News第165期(2014-06-20) ;Secretariat國立交通大學秘書室Item type:Item, The influence of emotion on keyboard typing: an experimental study using visual stimuli(2014-06-20) ;Lee, Po-Ming ;Tsui, Wei-Hsuan ;Hsiao, Tzu-Chien ;分子醫學與生物工程研究所資訊工程學系Background: Emotion recognition technology plays the essential role of enhancement in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). Y. ;Cheng, H. M. ;Chen, H. R. ;Huang, K. F.Tsai, L. N.Temperature dependent magnetic and phonon anomalies in epitaxial self-assembled CoFe2O4 (CFO) rods embedded in BaTiO3 (BTO) matrix nanostructures were investigated. The temperature dependence of A(1)(2TO) phonon frequency of BTO indicates that the BTO matrix experiences structural transformations. The lattice strain produced during the structural transformations drives spin reorientation in CFO rods, resulting in anomalous changes of magnetization. Through correlating the phonon anomalies with the increase of in-plane spin ordering, we show the spin-phonon coupling induces the softening of A(1g) and A(1)(2TO) phonons. It suggests that spin strongly couples with lattice strain and phonons in this nanostructure. A.We previously reported a highly efficient protocol for bimetallic Ni-Al-catalyzed hydroheteroarylation of styrene with benzimidazole based on C-H bond activation. We have now delineated the mechanism of this process, providing a rationale for an observed switch in regioselectivity in the presence of the Lewis acid, AlMe3. The present mechanistic study gives insights for the rational development of catalysts that exhibit required linear/branched selectivity.Item type:Item, Universal fluorescent tri-probe ligation equipped with capillary electrophoresis for targeting SMN1 and SMN2 genes in diagnosis of spinal muscular atrophy(2014-06-23) ;Wang, Chun-Chi ;Shih, Chi-Jen ;Jong, Yuh-Jyh ;Wu, Shou-Mei生物科技學院This is the first ligase chain reaction used for diagnosis of spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). Universal fluorescent tri-probe ligation (UFTPL), a novel strategy used for distinguishing the multi-nucleotide alternations at single base, is developed to quantitatively analyze the SMN1/SMN2 genes in diagnosis of SMA. Ligase chain reaction was performed by adding three probes including universal fluorescent probe, connecting probe and recognizing probe to differentiate single nucleotide polymorphisms in UFTPL. Our approach was based on the two UFTPL products of survival motor neuron 1 (SMN1) and SMN2 genes (the difference of 9 mer) and analyzed by capillary electrophoresis (CE). We successfully determined various gene dosages of SMN1 and SMN2 genes in homologous or heterologous subjects. By using the UFTPL-CE method, the SMN1 and SMN2 genes were fully resolved with the resolution of 2.16 +/- 0.37 (n = 3). The r values of SMN1 and SMN2 regression curves over a range of 1-4 copies were above 0.9944. Of the 48 DNA samples, the data of gene dosages were corresponding to that analyzed by conformation sensitive CE and denatured high-performance liquid chromatography (DHPLC). This technique was found to be a good methodology for quantification or determination of the relative genes having multi-nucleotide variants at single base. (C) 2014 Elsevier B.V.
