According to X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and temperature-programmed desorption, Pt nanoparticles can modify the electronic structure of the PdO thin film, thus improving the kinetics of PdO reduction by CO. The CO sensing response of the Pt-PdO sensor is greatly influenced by PdO reduction and reoxidation in the temperature range between 100 and 200 degrees C. The dramatic difference in the CO sensing behavior at 150 degrees C between the Pt-PdO and the bare PdO sensors is ascribed to the kinetic competition between PdO reduction and oxidation of growing Pd nanoislands on which dissociative oxygen adsorption takes place. On the other hand, the CO sensing characteristic of the Pt-PdO sensor at 100 degrees C and below is similar to that of the bare PdO sensor because PdO reduction is negligible in the temperature range. The Pt-PdO sensor exhibits a distinct delay in the recovery profile at 100 degrees C as a result of the sluggish replacement of CO adspecies by oxygen on Pt nanoparticles. At temperatures above 200 degrees C, the sensing behavior of the Pt-PdO sensor can be understood on the basis of the oxygen vacancy model. A highly CO-selective sensor based on the pattern recognition of the peculiar sensing response profile at 150 degrees C is suggested.Item type:Item, Epitaxial growth of a monolayer WSe2-MoS2 lateral p-n junction with an atomically sharp interface(2015-07-31) ;Li, Ming-Yang ;Shi, Yumeng ;Cheng, Chia-Chin ;Lu, Li-SyuanLin, Yung-ChangTwo-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) such as molybdenum sulfide MoS2 and tungsten sulfide WSe2 have potential applications in electronics because they exhibit high on-off current ratios and distinctive electro-optical properties. Spatially connected TMDC lateral heterojunctions are key components for constructing monolayer p-n rectifying diodes, light-emitting diodes, photovoltaic devices, and bipolar junction transistors. However, such structures are not readily prepared via the layer-stacking techniques, and direct growth favors the thermodynamically preferred TMDC alloys. We report the two-step epitaxial growth of lateral WSe2-MoS2 heterojunction, where the edge of WSe2 induces the epitaxial MoS2 growth despite a large lattice mismatch. The epitaxial growth process offers a controllable method to obtain lateral heterojunction with an atomically sharp interface.Item type:Item, HCV NS5A Up-Regulates COX-2 Expression via IL-8-Mediated Activation of the ERK/JNK MAPK Pathway(2015-07-31) ;Chen, Wei-Chun ;Tseng, Chin-Kai ;Chen, Yen-Hsu ;Lin, Chun-KuangHsu, ShihhsienChronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection leads to intrahepatic inflammation and liver cell injury, which are considered a risk factor for virus-associated hepatitis, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma worldwide. Inflammatory cytokines are critical components of the immune system and influence cellular signaling, and genetic imbalances. In this study, we found that cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and interleukin-8 (IL-8) were significantly induced by HCV infection and HCV NS5A expression, and induction of COX-2 correlated with HCV-induced IL-8 production. We also found that the ERK and JNK signaling pathways were involved in the regulation of IL-8-mediated COX-2 induction in response to HCV infection. Using a promoter-linked reporter assay, we identified that the C/EBP regulatory element within the COX-2 promoter was the dominant factor responsible for the induction of COX-2 by HCV. Silencing C/EBP attenuated HCV-induced COX-2 expression. Our results revealed that HCV-induced inflammation promotes viral replication, providing new insights into the involvement of IL-8-mediated COX-2 induction in HCV replication.Item type:Item, Carrier generation and recombination dynamics in type-II ZnSeTe/ZnMnSe quantum structures(2015-07-31) ;Lin, Yan-Cheng ;Chou, Wu-Ching ;電子物理學系Department of ElectrophysicsType-II band alignment structure is coveted in the design of photovoltaic devices, since it is beneficial for the transport of photogenerated carriers. Here we study the generation and recombination dynamics of carriers in a type-II quantum structure composed of ZnSe0.92Te0.08 highly mismatched alloys (HMAs) and Zn0.97Mn0.03Se. The photoinduced holes at the ZnSe0.92Te0.08 HMAs firstly undergo rapid relaxation to the isoelectronic centers above the valence band edge and subsequently recombine with the free electrons in the Zn0.97Mn0.03Se. The long carrier lifetimes over 120 ns induced by spatially indirect excitons that are bound to isoelectronic Te trapping states further increase with increasing temperature.Item type:Item, 編案:汙名連線的可能性(深河出版有限公司, 2015-08-01)人間思想編輯部Item type:Item, Homoepitaxial growth and stress analysis of (111) diamond film with embedded gold islands(2015-08-01) ;Chiu, Kim-An ;Wu, Ping-Hsun ;Peng, Chun-Yen ;Tian, Jr-ShengChang, LiThe internal stress in high-quality (111) homoepitaxial diamond film grown on high-pressure high temperature (HPHT) synthesized single crystal diamond substrate by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) can be reduced effectively by embedding Au islands in diamond. Au islands formed from an Au layer deposited on the diamond substrate by electron beam evaporation can be obtained after hydrogen plasma annealing. Transmission electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction results show that the Au islands covered with CVD diamond have a size in a few hundreds of nanometers and are oriented with diamond in the orientation relationship of {111}Au//{111}(Dia) and < 110 > Au//< 110 > Dia. The surfaces of the CVD diamond films grown on substrate with and without Au coating exhibit cracks when the film thickness reaches 3.5 mu m. As evaluated from the Raman peak shift, it is shown that the internal tensile stress in the film with Au islands is less than in the same thick film on substrate without Au coating. A crack-free (111) homoepitaxial diamond film in the same thickness can be obtained by insertion of multilayers of Au islands in CVD diamond. (c) 2015 Elsevier Ltd. Each nanowire has three sharp corners fabricated by a sidewall spacer formation technique to obtain high local electrical fields. Owing to the higher carrier concentration in the channel and the high local electrical field from the three sharp corners, such a JL SONOS memory device exhibits a significantly enhanced P/E speed, a larger memory window, and better data retention properties than a conventional inversion mode NW-channel memory device. Here, a 1.2-GHz RSOA can be enhanced to similar to 3 GHz by utilizing a self-injected mechanism. In the measurement, applying the optical orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing quadrature amplitude modulation (OFDM-QAM) with a bit-loading algorithm on the self-injected RSOA directly, the proposed laser can achieve a 3.5-Gb/s data rate in a 20-km single-mode-fiber transmission below a forward error correction (FEC) threshold. Moreover, the related output performance of the proposed RSOA-based laser is also discussed, whereas the FRM and the FM are utilized for comparisons.Item type:Item, Synthesis of nanostructures in nanowires using sequential catalyst reactions(2015-08-01) ;Panciera, F. ;Chou, Y. -C. ;Reuter, M. C. ;Zakharov, D.Stach, E. A.Nanowire growth by the vapour-liquid-solid (VLS) process enables a high level of control over nanowire composition, diameter, growth direction, branching and kinking, periodic twinning, and crystal structure. The tremendous impact of VLS-grown nanowires is due to this structural versatility, generating applications ranging from solid-state lighting and single-photon sources to thermoelectric devices. Here, we show that the morphology of these nanostructures can be further tailored by using the liquid droplets that catalyse nanowire growth as a \'mixing bowl\', in which growth materials are sequentially supplied to nucleate new phases. Growing within the liquid, these phases adopt the shape of faceted nanocrystals that are then incorporated into the nanowires by further growth. We demonstrate this concept by epitaxially incorporating metal silicide nanocrystals into Si nanowires with defect-free interfaces, and discuss how this process can be generalized to create complex nanowire-based heterostructures.Item type:Item, Extended depth-of-field 3D endoscopy with synthetic aperture integral imaging using an electrically tunable focal-length liquid-crystal lens(2015-08-01) ;Wang, Yu-Jen ;Shen, Xin ;Lin, Yi-Hsin ;Javidi, Bahram光電工程學系Conventional synthetic-aperture integral imaging uses a lens array to sense the three-dimensional (3D) object or scene that can then be reconstructed digitally or optically. However, integral imaging generally suffers from a fixed and limited range of depth of field (DOF). In this Letter, we experimentally demonstrate a 3D integral-imaging endoscopy with tunable DOF by using a single large-aperture focal-length-tunable liquid crystal (LC) lens. The proposed system can provide high spatial resolution and an extended DOF in synthetic-aperture integral imaging 3D endoscope. In our experiments, the image plane in the integral imaging pickup process can be tuned from 18 to 38 mm continuously using a large-aperture LC lens, and the total DOF is extended from 12 to 51 mm. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on synthetic aperture integral imaging 3D endoscopy with a large-aperture LC lens that can provide high spatial resolution 3D imaging with an extend DOF. Exponential exciton relaxation and oscillatory responses are observed in transient reflectivity measurements of the films. Laser-induced coherent acoustic waves (LCAW) are proposed to be responsible for this oscillation. Despite their fast attenuation with the increase in temperature, LCAWs are successfully detected at room temperature through probing at a large oblique angle near the low-energy absorption edge of the Q-Band. From the oscillation period of the LCAW, the sound velocity is estimated to be similar to 3.1 x 10(3) m/s, and an acoustic echo arising from the boundary between the films and substrate is also observed. A retrospective observational study(2015-08-01) ;Chuang, Shu-Hung ;Yang, Wen-Jui ;Chang, Chih-Ming ;Lin, Chih-ShengYeh, Meng-ChingBACKGROUND: Single-incision laparoscopic cholecystectomy (SILC) has been shown to be safe for uncomplicated gallbladder diseases. Routinely applying SILC is debatable. METHODS: Two hundred SILCs were performed with single-incision multiple-port longitudinal-array and self-camera techniques. RESULTS: Eighty-eight (44%) procedures were scheduled for complicated diseases. The routine group had a higher comorbidity rate, a lower preoperative endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography rate, a higher intraoperative cholangiography rate, a higher proportion of complicated gallbladder diseases, shorter operative time, more intraoperative blood loss, and lower postoperative pethidine dose than the selective group (the first 73 patients). The conversion and complication rates showed no statistical difference. It took fewer cases but longer time to pass the learning phase of SILC for complicated gallbladder diseases. The multivariate analysis showed that male sex and complicated gallbladder diseases were associated with a higher procedure conversion rate, and increased patient age was related to a higher complication rate. CONCLUSIONS: Routine SILC for benign gallbladder diseases is feasible in the experienced phase. Practicing SILC for uncomplicated gallbladder diseases helps to achieve competence in this technique for complicated diseases. (C) 2015 Elsevier Inc. The OPVs fabricated with AuNP-GOs exhibited significant improvement in both the short-circuit current and fill factor compared to a reference device fabricated with neat GOs. We attribute the improvement in the efficiency of the device to the plasmonic effects of the AuNP-GO nanocomposites, which induced local enhancement of the electromagnetic field. More importantly, the inverted OPVs also exhibited better reliability after the use of AuNP-GO nanocomposites.Item type:Item, Application of multi-scale (cross-) sample entropy for structural health monitoring(2015-08-01) ;Lin, Tzu-Kang ;Liang, Jui-Chang ;土木工程學系Department of Civil EngineeringThis study proposes an information-theoretic structural health monitoring (SHM) system based on multi-scale entropy (MSE) and multi-scale cross-sample entropy (MSCE). By measuring the ambient vibration signal from a structure, the damage condition can be rapidly evaluated via MSE analysis. The damage location can then be detected by analyzing the signals of different floors under the same damage condition via MSCE analysis. Moreover, a damage index is proposed to efficiently quantify the SHM process. Unlike some existing SHM methods, no experimental database or numerical model is required. Instead, a reference measurement of the current stage can initiate and launch the SHM system. A numerical simulation of a four-story steel structure is used to verify that the damage location and condition can be detected by the proposed SHM algorithm, and the location can be efficiently quantified by the damage index. A seven-story scaled-down benchmark structure is then employed for experimental verification. Based on the results, the damage condition can be correctly assessed, and average accuracy rates of 63.4 and 86.6% for the damage location can be achieved using the MSCE and damage index methods, respectively. As only the ambient vibration signal is required with a set of initial reference measurements, the proposed SHM system can be implemented practically with low cost.Item type:Item, 第十支隊鬥爭史(深河出版有限公司, 2015-08-01) ;莫哈默.沙勒.藍利(Mohamed Salleh Lamry)吳小保Item type:Item, LUTSim: A Look-Up Table-Based Thermal Simulator for 3-D ICs(2015-08-01) ;Lee, Yu-Min ;Pan, Chi-Wen ;Huang, Pei-Yu ;Yang, Chi-Ping電機資訊學士班To sustain Moore\'s law, three-dimensional integrated circuit (3-D IC) is a promising solution to achieve high performance and low cost targets. However, its operating temperature is higher than that of a 2-D IC because of its high power density of stacked dies and ill of heat dissipation capability. Therefore, on-chip thermal effects have become major concerns of 3-D ICs. Utilizing look-up table approach, this paper, LUTSim, provides two thermal simulation engines, I-LUTSim and S-LUTSim, to efficiently calculate the thermal profile of a 3-D IC. I-LUTSim is suitable for full-chip thermal analysis, and S-LUTSim is suited for incremental-thermal updating. With utilizing the prebuilt tables, compared with a commercial tool ANSYS, the absolute error of I-LUTSim is less than 0.29%. Moreover, with negligible loss of accuracy, I-LUTSim can be 38.8 times faster than a well-known matrix solver SuperLU for performing full-chip thermal simulation. Besides, S-LUTSim can be over 1.05 million times faster than SuperLU for adjusting the thermal profile after inserting/removing a through silicon via.
