Item type:Item, Amifostine-conjugated pH-sensitive calcium phosphate-covered magnetic-amphiphilic gelatin nanoparticles for controlled intracellular dual drug release for dual-targeting in HER-2-overexpressing breast cancer(2015-12-28) ;Li, Wei-Ming ;Chiang, Chih-Sheng ;Huang, Wei-Chen ;Su, Chia-WeiChiang, Min-YuWe developed a surfactant-free method utilizing amifostine to stably link a targeting ligand (Herceptin) to amphiphilic gelatin (AG)-iron oxide@calcium phosphate (CaP) nanoparticles with hydrophobic curcumin (CUR) and hydrophilic doxorubicin (DOX) encapsulated in the AG core and CaP shell (AGIO@CaP-CD), respectively. This multi-functional nanoparticle system has a pH-sensitive CaP shell and degradable amphiphilic gelatin (AG) core, which enables controllable sequential release of the two drugs. The dual-targeting system of AGIO@CaP-CD (HER-AGIO@CaP-CD) with a bioligand and magnetic targeting resulted in significantly elevated cellular uptake in HER2-overexpressing SKBr3 cells and more efficacious therapy than delivery of targeting ligand alone due to the synergistic cell multi-drug resistance/apoptosis-inducing effect of the CUR and DOX combination. This nanoparticle combined with Herceptin and iron oxide nanoparticles not only provided a dual-targeting functionality, but also encapsulated CUR and DOX as a dual-drug delivery system for the combination therapy. This study further demonstrated that the therapeutic efficacy of this dual-targeting co-delivery system can be improved by modifying the application duration of magnetic targeting, which makes this combination therapy system a powerful new tool for in vitro/in vivo cancer therapy, especially for HER2-positive cancers. We consider a black hole background in an Einstein-Maxwell- scalar system and add probe open strings to the background. Combining the various configurations of the open strings and the phase structure of the black hole background itself, we obtain the confinement-deconfinement phase diagram for heavy quarks in the holographic QCD model.Item type:Item, 4-Gbit/s visible light communication link based on 16-QAM OFDM transmission over remote phosphor-film converted white light by using blue laser diode(2015-12-28) ;Retamal, Jose Ramon Duran ;Oubei, Hassan Makine ;Janjua, Bilal ;Chi, Yu-ChiehWang, Huai-YungVisible Light Communication (VLC) as a new technology for ultrahigh-speed communication is still limited when using slow modulation light-emitting diode (LED). Alternatively, we present a 4-Gbit/s VLC system using coherent blue-laser diode (LD) via 16-quadrature amplitude modulation orthogonal frequency division multiplexing. By changing the composition and the optical-configuration of a remote phosphor-film the generated white light is tuned from cool day to neutral, and the bit error rate is optimized from 1.9 x 10(-2) to 2.8 x 10(-5) in a blue filter-free link due to enhanced blue light transmission in forward direction. Briefly, blue-LD is an alternative to LED for generating white light and boosting the data rate of VLC. This exotic helium atom has an electron in the ground state and a negative hadron rotating around the helium nucleus. We theoretically study the excitation on hadronic helium by femtosecond pulse and elucidate the influence of moleculelike structure and rotation behavior on the photoelectron spectra and high-order harmonic generation. Because of the moleculelike structure, the electronic ground state consists of several angular orbitals. These angular orbitals can enhance photoelectron spectra at high energies, and also influence the harmonic generation spectra considerably. In particular, the harmonic spectra can occur at even harmonic orders because of the transition between these angular orbitals and continuum states. On the other side, the rotation behavior of hadron can induce a frequency shift in the harmonic spectra. The magnitude of the frequency shift depends on the orbiting speed of the hadron, which is considerable because the rotation period is in a few femtoseconds, a time scale that is comparable to that of infrared laser and is feasible in current laser experiments.Item type:Item, Is Zolpidem Associated with Increased Risk of Fractures in the Elderly with Sleep Disorders? A Nationwide Case Cross-Over Study in Taiwan(2015-12-30) ;Tang, Yih-Jing ;Ho, Shinn-Ying ;Chu, Fang-Ying ;Chen, Hung-AnYin, Yun-JuBackground We conducted a study using a case-crossover design to clarify the risk of acute effects of zolpidem and benzodiazepine on all-sites of fractures in the elderly. Design of study Case-crossover design. Methods and Materials Elderly enrollees (n = 6010) in Taiwan's National Health Insurance Research Database with zolpidem or benzodiazepine use were analyzed for the risk of developing fractures. Results After adjusting for medications such as antipsychotics, antidepressants, and diuretics, or comorbidities such as hypertension, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis and depression, neither zolpidem nor benzodiazepine was found to be associated with increased risk in all-sites fractures. Subjects without depression were found to have an increased risk of fractures. Diazepam is the only benzodiazepine with increased risk of fractures after adjusting for medications and comorbidities. Hip and spine were particular sites for increased fracture risk, but following adjustment for comorbidities, the associations were found to be insignificant. Conclusion Neither zolpidem nor benzodiazepine was associated with increased risk of all-site fractures in this case cross-over study after adjusting for medications or comorbidities in elderly individuals with insomnia. Clinicians should balance the benefits and risks for prescribing zolpidem or benzodiazepine in the elderly accordingly.Item type:Item, Thermoelectric Efficiency of Single-Molecule Junctions: Phase Diagram Constructed from First-Principles Calculations(2015-12-31) ;Amanatidis, Ilias ;Kao, Jing-Yao ;Du, Li-Yang ;Pao, Chun-WeiChen, Yu-ChangTo understand the behavior of thermoelectric efficiency of single-molecule junctions from 0 K to room temperature, we investigated the thermoelectric properties of a dibenzenedithiol (DBDT) single-molecule junction. We investigated its Seebeck coefficient (S), electric conductance (sigma), and electron\'s thermal conductance (kappa(el)) in the framework of Ai/parameter-free density functional theory combined with the Lippmann Schwinger formalism in scattering approach. We observe that the nanojunction is p-type and the value of the Seebeck coefficient at room temperature is around 40 mu V/A, in agreement with the results of the experiment. In addition, we investigate the phonon\'s thermal conductance (kappa(ph)) using (i) the weak-link model suitable for ballistic phonon transport mechanism in the low-temperature quantum regime and (ii) the nonequilibrium molecular dynamics (NEMD) simulation in the high-temperature classical regime. We finally construct the phase diagram for ZT, where the value of ZT reveals the power law behavior that falls into four phases because of the competition between kappa(el) and kappa(ph) and the crossover from the quantum to classical phonon transport mechanism for kappa(ph). Our theory shows the following ZT proportional to T-alpha where x = 2, 0, 2.26, and 3 in different temperature regimes labeled by I, II, III, and IV, respectively.Item type:Item, A turn-on fluorescent sensor for cysteine based on BODIPY functionalized Au nanoparticles and its application in living cell imaging(2015-12-31) ;Lo, Shu-Hua ;Wu, Ming-Chun ;Wu, Shu-Pao ;應用化學系Department of Applied ChemistryBODIPY functionalized Au nanoparticles (PyBDP-AuNPs) have been developed for detecting cysteine. Gold nanoparticles were prepared by reducing HAuCl4 with sodium citrate, using PyBDP as the capping agent. Upon addition of cysteine, PyBDP molecules are liberated from the AuNP surface through ligand-exchange displacement based on the strong affinity of Au with the thiol group and result in green fluorescence from PyBDP molecules. This cysteine-induced displacement of PyBDP-AuNPs was monitored by fluorescent spectroscopy with a detection limit of 1.2 mu M. Optimal detection of cysteine was achieved over a pH range from 5 to 12. In addition, PyBDP-AuNPs can be used as a fluorescent probe for detecting cysteine in living cells. (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V. Moreover, LGis also hypothesized to increase human cell proliferation. However, these potential functions of LG have not been directly or thoroughly addressed. In this study, we demonstrated that LG is a potent stimulator of cell proliferation using a hybridoma cell (a splenocyte fused with amyeloma cell) model. LG's ability to promote cell proliferation was lost when the protein is denatured. To further investigate the influence of LG's conformation on cell proliferation, we chemically modified LG by either carboxymethylation (CM) or acetylation and observed significantly reduced cell proliferation when the protein structure was altered. Furthermore, we proved that LG enhances cell proliferation via receptor-mediated membrane IgM receptor. These data indicated that nondenatured LG is the major component in milk that modulates cell proliferation. Collectively, our study showed that LG plays a key role in enhancing immune responses by promoting cell proliferation through IgM receptor.Item type:Item, Error Recovery in a Micro-Electrode-Dot-Array Digital Microfluidic Biochip(2016) ;Li, Zipeng ;Lai, Kelvin Yi-Tse ;Yu, Po-Hsien ;Chakrabarty, KrishnenduPajic, MiroslavA digital microfluidic biochip (DMFB) is an attractive technology platform for automating laboratory procedures in biochemistry. However, today\'s DMFBs suffer from several limitations: (i) constraints on droplet size and the inability to vary droplet volume in a fine-grained manner; (ii) the lack of integrated sensors for real-time detection; (iii) the need for special fabrication processes and the associated reliability/yield concerns. To overcome the above problems, DMFBs based on a micro-electrode-dot-array (MEDA) architecture have been proposed recently, and droplet manipulation on these devices has been experimentally demonstrated. Errors are likely to occur due to defects, chip degradation, and the lack of precision inherent in biochemical experiments. Therefore, an efficient error-recovery strategy is essential to ensure the correctness of assays executed on MEDA biochips. By exploiting MEDA-specific advances in droplet sensing, we present a novel error-recovery technique to dynamically reconfigure the biochip using real-time data provided by on-chip sensors. Local recovery strategies based on probabilistic-timed-automata are presented for various types of errors. A control flow is also proposed to connect local recovery procedures with global error recovery for the complete bioassay. Laboratory experiments using a fabricated MEDA chip are used to characterize the outcomes of key droplet operations. The PRISM model checker and three analytical chemistry benchmarks are used for an extensive set of simulations. Our results highlight the effectiveness of the proposed error-recovery strategy.Item type:Item, 在奈米域中等向性液體與非等向性液晶分子之交互作用及開發相關應用之研究(2016)國立交通大學光電工程學系(所)Item type:Item, End of the downsizing and world after that(2016) ;Iwai, Hiroshi ;交大名義發表National Chiao Tung UniversityThe progress of the electronics has been conducted by the downsizing of electron devices for more than 100 years since its beginning in early 20th century. However, it is believed now that the downsizing will reach its limit within a few to several years because of several sure reasons. After reaching the limit there is no Moore\'s law, and we cannot expect such a tremendous progress in cost, performance and energy consumption as we experienced in the past. Although the market for CMOS devices will still keep increasing for future, the technology development will spread to large spectrum of different devices, such as sensor, memory, power, photovoltaic, battery, MEMS devices which are demanded for the coming IoT environment, where everything is connected with internet. This will become a virtual extension of Moore\'s law, and will cause a big paradigm change in a system and society level. In a long term, however, the system fabricated on the solid-state devices and there network cannot compete with the existing bio system in efficiency, and the technology how to use the bio system, and combine the electron and bio system will become important.Item type:Item, Multiplication of a Constant (2(k) +/- 1) and Its Fast Hardware Implementation(2016-01-01) ;Jui, Pin-Chang ;Wey, Chin-Long ;Shiue, Muh-Tian ;電機資訊學士班Undergraduate Honors Program of Electrical Engineering and Computer ScienceConstant multiplier performs a multiplication of a data-input with a constant value. Constant multipliers are essential components in various types of arithmetic circuits, such as filters in digital signal processor (DSP) units and they are prevalent in modern VLSI designs. This study presents efficient algorithms and their fast hardware implementation for performing multiplying-by-(2(k) +/- 1), or (2(k) +/- 1)N, operation with additions. No multiplications are needed. The value of (2(k) +/- 1)N can be computed by adding (+/- N) to its k-bits left-shifted value 2(k)N. The additions can be performed by the full-adder-based (FA-based) ripple carry adder (RCA) for simple architecture. This paper presents the unit cells for additions (UCAs). Results show that the UCA-based RCA achieves 34 % faster than the FA-based RCA. Further, in order to improve the speed performance with lower hardware cost, this paper also presents a simple and modular hybrid adder with the proposed UCA concept, where the hybrid adder takes the lower-bit carry lookahead adder (CLA) as a module and many of the CLA modules are serially connected in a fashion similar to the RCA. Results show that the proposed hybrid adder achieved speed performance improvement while maintaining its modular and regular structure.Item type:Item, Item type:Item, Catalytically solid-phase self-organization of nanoporous SnS with optical depolarizability(2016) ;Cheng, Chih-Hsien ;Chi, Yu-Chieh ;Wu, Chung-Lun ;Lin, Chun-JungTsai, Ling-HsuanThe catalytic solid-phase synthesis of self-organized nanoporous tin sulfide (SnS) with enhanced absorption, manipulative transmittance and depolarization features is demonstrated. Using an ultralow radio-frequency (RF) sputtering power, the variation of the orientation angle between the anodized aluminum oxide (AAO) membrane and the axis of the sputtered ion beam detunes the catalytically synthesized SnS from nanorod to nanoporous morphology, along the sidewall of the AAO membrane. The ultraslow catalytic sputtering synthesis on the AAO at the RF plasma power of 20 W and the orientation angle of 0 degrees regulates the porosity and integrality of nanoporous SnS, with average pore diameter of 80-150 nm. When transferring from planar to nanoporous structure, the phase composition changes from SnS to SnS2-Sn2S3, and the optical bandgap shrinks from 1.43 to 1.16 eV, due to the preferred crystalline orientation, which also contributes to an ultralow reflectance of <1% at 200-500 nm when both the transmittance and the surface scattering remain at their maxima. The absorption coefficient is enhanced by nearly one order of magnitude with its minimum of >5 x 10(4) cm(-1) at the wavelength between 200 and 700 nm, due to the red-shifting of the absorption spectrum to at least 100 nm. The catalytically self-organized nanoporous SnS causes strong haze and beam divergence of 20 degrees-30 degrees by depolarized nonlinear scattering at the surface, which favors the solar energy conversion with reduced surface reflection and enhanced photon scattering under preserved transmittance.
