Moreover, LGis also hypothesized to increase human cell proliferation. However, these potential functions of LG have not been directly or thoroughly addressed. In this study, we demonstrated that LG is a potent stimulator of cell proliferation using a hybridoma cell (a splenocyte fused with amyeloma cell) model. LG's ability to promote cell proliferation was lost when the protein is denatured. To further investigate the influence of LG's conformation on cell proliferation, we chemically modified LG by either carboxymethylation (CM) or acetylation and observed significantly reduced cell proliferation when the protein structure was altered. Furthermore, we proved that LG enhances cell proliferation via receptor-mediated membrane IgM receptor. These data indicated that nondenatured LG is the major component in milk that modulates cell proliferation. Collectively, our study showed that LG plays a key role in enhancing immune responses by promoting cell proliferation through IgM receptor.Item type:Item, Error Recovery in a Micro-Electrode-Dot-Array Digital Microfluidic Biochip(2016) ;Li, Zipeng ;Lai, Kelvin Yi-Tse ;Yu, Po-Hsien ;Chakrabarty, KrishnenduPajic, MiroslavA digital microfluidic biochip (DMFB) is an attractive technology platform for automating laboratory procedures in biochemistry. However, today\'s DMFBs suffer from several limitations: (i) constraints on droplet size and the inability to vary droplet volume in a fine-grained manner; (ii) the lack of integrated sensors for real-time detection; (iii) the need for special fabrication processes and the associated reliability/yield concerns. To overcome the above problems, DMFBs based on a micro-electrode-dot-array (MEDA) architecture have been proposed recently, and droplet manipulation on these devices has been experimentally demonstrated. Errors are likely to occur due to defects, chip degradation, and the lack of precision inherent in biochemical experiments. Therefore, an efficient error-recovery strategy is essential to ensure the correctness of assays executed on MEDA biochips. By exploiting MEDA-specific advances in droplet sensing, we present a novel error-recovery technique to dynamically reconfigure the biochip using real-time data provided by on-chip sensors. Local recovery strategies based on probabilistic-timed-automata are presented for various types of errors. A control flow is also proposed to connect local recovery procedures with global error recovery for the complete bioassay. Laboratory experiments using a fabricated MEDA chip are used to characterize the outcomes of key droplet operations. The PRISM model checker and three analytical chemistry benchmarks are used for an extensive set of simulations. Our results highlight the effectiveness of the proposed error-recovery strategy.Item type:Item, 在奈米域中等向性液體與非等向性液晶分子之交互作用及開發相關應用之研究(2016)國立交通大學光電工程學系(所)Item type:Item, End of the downsizing and world after that(2016) ;Iwai, Hiroshi ;交大名義發表National Chiao Tung UniversityThe progress of the electronics has been conducted by the downsizing of electron devices for more than 100 years since its beginning in early 20th century. However, it is believed now that the downsizing will reach its limit within a few to several years because of several sure reasons. After reaching the limit there is no Moore\'s law, and we cannot expect such a tremendous progress in cost, performance and energy consumption as we experienced in the past. Although the market for CMOS devices will still keep increasing for future, the technology development will spread to large spectrum of different devices, such as sensor, memory, power, photovoltaic, battery, MEMS devices which are demanded for the coming IoT environment, where everything is connected with internet. This will become a virtual extension of Moore\'s law, and will cause a big paradigm change in a system and society level. In a long term, however, the system fabricated on the solid-state devices and there network cannot compete with the existing bio system in efficiency, and the technology how to use the bio system, and combine the electron and bio system will become important.Item type:Item, Multiplication of a Constant (2(k) +/- 1) and Its Fast Hardware Implementation(2016-01-01) ;Jui, Pin-Chang ;Wey, Chin-Long ;Shiue, Muh-Tian ;電機資訊學士班Undergraduate Honors Program of Electrical Engineering and Computer ScienceConstant multiplier performs a multiplication of a data-input with a constant value. Constant multipliers are essential components in various types of arithmetic circuits, such as filters in digital signal processor (DSP) units and they are prevalent in modern VLSI designs. This study presents efficient algorithms and their fast hardware implementation for performing multiplying-by-(2(k) +/- 1), or (2(k) +/- 1)N, operation with additions. No multiplications are needed. The value of (2(k) +/- 1)N can be computed by adding (+/- N) to its k-bits left-shifted value 2(k)N. The additions can be performed by the full-adder-based (FA-based) ripple carry adder (RCA) for simple architecture. This paper presents the unit cells for additions (UCAs). Results show that the UCA-based RCA achieves 34 % faster than the FA-based RCA. Further, in order to improve the speed performance with lower hardware cost, this paper also presents a simple and modular hybrid adder with the proposed UCA concept, where the hybrid adder takes the lower-bit carry lookahead adder (CLA) as a module and many of the CLA modules are serially connected in a fashion similar to the RCA. Results show that the proposed hybrid adder achieved speed performance improvement while maintaining its modular and regular structure.Item type:Item, Item type:Item, Catalytically solid-phase self-organization of nanoporous SnS with optical depolarizability(2016) ;Cheng, Chih-Hsien ;Chi, Yu-Chieh ;Wu, Chung-Lun ;Lin, Chun-JungTsai, Ling-HsuanThe catalytic solid-phase synthesis of self-organized nanoporous tin sulfide (SnS) with enhanced absorption, manipulative transmittance and depolarization features is demonstrated. Using an ultralow radio-frequency (RF) sputtering power, the variation of the orientation angle between the anodized aluminum oxide (AAO) membrane and the axis of the sputtered ion beam detunes the catalytically synthesized SnS from nanorod to nanoporous morphology, along the sidewall of the AAO membrane. The ultraslow catalytic sputtering synthesis on the AAO at the RF plasma power of 20 W and the orientation angle of 0 degrees regulates the porosity and integrality of nanoporous SnS, with average pore diameter of 80-150 nm. When transferring from planar to nanoporous structure, the phase composition changes from SnS to SnS2-Sn2S3, and the optical bandgap shrinks from 1.43 to 1.16 eV, due to the preferred crystalline orientation, which also contributes to an ultralow reflectance of <1% at 200-500 nm when both the transmittance and the surface scattering remain at their maxima. The absorption coefficient is enhanced by nearly one order of magnitude with its minimum of >5 x 10(4) cm(-1) at the wavelength between 200 and 700 nm, due to the red-shifting of the absorption spectrum to at least 100 nm. The catalytically self-organized nanoporous SnS causes strong haze and beam divergence of 20 degrees-30 degrees by depolarized nonlinear scattering at the surface, which favors the solar energy conversion with reduced surface reflection and enhanced photon scattering under preserved transmittance.Item type:Item, 新興電子設計自動化之應用:一個智慧型配電網路最佳化平台(2016) ;江蕙如 ;Jiang Iris Hui-Ru國立交通大學電子工程學系及電子研究所Item type:Item, Target-specific identification and characterization of the putative gene cluster for brasilinolide biosynthesis revealing the mechanistic insights and connic enzymes(2016-01-01) ;Chiu, Hsien-Tai ;Weng, Chien-Pao ;Lin, Yu-Chin ;Chen, Kuan-Hung生物科技學系Brasilinolides exhibiting potent immunosuppressive and antifungal activities with remarkably low toxicity are structurally characterized by an unusual modified 2-deoxy-L-fucose (2dF) attached to a type I polyketide (PK-I) macrolactone. From the pathogenic producer Nocardia terpenica (Nocardia brasiliensis IFM-0406), a 210 kb genomic fragment was identified by target-specific degenerate primers and subsequently sequenced, revealing a giant nbr gene cluster harboring genes (nbrCDEF) required for TDP-2dF biosynthesis and those for PK-I biosynthesis, modification and regulation. The results showed that the genetic and domain arrangements of nbr PK-I synthases agreed colinearly with the PK-I structures of brasilinolides. Subsequent heterologous expression of nbrCDEF in Escherichia coli accomplished in vitro reconstitution of TDP-2dF biosynthesis. The catalytic functions and mechanisms of NbrCDEF enzymes were further characterized by systematic mix-and-match experiments. The enzymes were revealed to display remarkable substrate and partner promiscuity, leading to the establishment of in vitro hybrid deoxysugar biosynthetic pathways throughout an in situ one-pot (iSOP) method. This study represents the first demonstration of TDP-2dF biosynthesis at the enzyme and molecular levels, and provides new hope for expanding the structural diversity of brasilinolides by combinatorial biosynthesis.Item type:Item, A latent growth curve analysis of initial depression level and changing rate as predictors of problematic Internet use among college students(2016-01-01) ;Chen, Ssu-Kuang ;Lin, Sunny S. J. ;教育研究所Institute of EducationThe associations between problematic Internet use (PIU) and depressive symptoms have been found to be positive and statistically significant. However, whether the trajectory change of depressive feeling is related to PIU has not been discovered. The present study aimed to investigate the trajectory change of depressive symptoms in a group of Taiwanese college students and to examine the influence of the initial level and the changing rate in depression on the PIU level, with a simultaneous evaluation of gender effect. The survey employed a five-wave panel design in which the data were collected five times from the freshman to junior years for the same participants. The first-year data included 757 freshmen (51.1% male). The results showed that the females exhibit a faster decreasing rate in depression than the males. A student with a higher initial level of depression tends to have a serious initial level of PIU. Additionally, the PIU level at the end of study period could be reduced while the rapidly decreasing rate of depression was observed. The faster the decline in depression is, the lower the PIU level is. The trajectory change of depression plays an important role in predicting the severity of PIU. (C) 2015 Elsevier Ltd. In addition to supporting multi-core coherent data accesses to shared memory, each processor core in JAIP-MP is a hardwired Java core that is capable of dynamic class loading, two-fold bytecode execution, object-oriented dynamic resolution, method/object caching, Java exception handling, preemptive multi-threading, and memory management. Most of the essential OS kernel functions are implemented in hardware. In particular, the preemptive multi-threading performance is much higher than that of a software-based VM running on a traditional OS kernel such as Linux. Currently, single-cycle context switching with a time quantum as small as 20 mu s can be achieved by each core. More importantly, the Java language model itself makes it possible to maintain binary portability of application software regardless of the hardwired OS kernel component. In summary, JAIP-MP could be used to study the potential benefits of OS kernel implementation in hardware. Item type:Item, Facile multi-dimensional profiling of chemical gradients at the millimetre scale(2016-01-01) ;Chen, Chih-Lin ;Hsieh, Kai-Ta ;Hsu, Ching-Fong ;Urban, Pawel L.應用化學系A vast number of conventional physicochemical methods are suitable for the analysis of homogeneous samples. However, in various cases, the samples exhibit intrinsic heterogeneity. Tomography allows one to record approximate distributions of chemical species in the three-dimensional space. Here we develop a simple optical tomography system which enables performing scans of non-homogeneous samples at different wavelengths. It takes advantage of inexpensive open-source electronics and simple algorithms. The analysed samples are illuminated by a miniature LCD/LED screen which emits light at three wavelengths (598, 547 and 455 nm, corresponding to the R, G, and B channels, respectively). On presentation of every wavelength, the sample vial is rotated by similar to 180 degrees, and videoed at 30 frames per s. The RGB values of pixels in the obtained digital snapshots are subsequently collated, and processed to produce sinograms. Following the inverse Radon transform, approximate quasi-three-dimensional images are reconstructed for each wavelength. Sample components with distinct visible light absorption spectra (myoglobin, methylene blue) can be resolved. The system was used to follow dynamic changes in non-homogeneous samples in real time, to visualize binary mixtures, to reconstruct reaction-diffusion fronts formed during the reduction of 2,6-dichlorophenolindophenol by ascorbic acid, and to visualize the distribution of fungal mycelium grown in a semi-solid medium.Item type:Item, Regioselective synthesis of imidazo[1,5-a]quinoxalines and methyl N-phenylbenzimidats on an ionic liquid support(2016-01-01) ;Chen, Li-Hsun ;Kao, Chih-Hsien ;Dhole, Sandip ;Barve, Indrajeet J.Shen, Li-ChingAn ionic liquid (IL) supported, regioselective synthesis of imidazo[1,5-a]quinoxalines and methyl N-phenylbenzimidats under microwave conditions was reported. The IL-immobilized aromatic amines were reacted with various ketones and aliphatic aldehydes using an unconventional Pictet-Spengler reaction to generate polycyclic imidazo[1,5-a]quinoxalines. Alternatively, aromatic aldehydes afforded auto-oxidized imidazo[1,5-a]quinoxalines first which further converted to novel methyl N-phenylbenzimidats unexpectedly during the cleavage of the IL-support. In the reported strategy, rapidness is achieved through microwave conditions while the IL-support assists purification by simple precipitation.
