Item type:Item, 2D Histogram-based player localization in broadcast volleyball videos(2016-06) ;Hsu, Chun-Chieh ;Chen, Hua-Tsung ;Chou, Chien-Li ;Lee, Suh-Yin資訊工程學系Player location is one of the most informative cues for obtaining tactics arrangement and collecting descriptive game statistics. However, state-of-the-art supervised learning-based methods for player localization require a large amount of labeled training data. Hence, the development of automatic systems for player localization becomes indispensable. Volleyball games reach a huge audience base and contain a variety of tactical strategies, necessitating the implementation of systems for inferring tactics and analyzing formations automatically. Therefore, a novel 2D histogram-based player localization method capable of locating players with occlusions is developed and presented in this paper. The proposed system is able to automatically detect the court lines for camera calibration, extract players by calculating both x and y histograms of extracted player masks, and visualize the team formations on real-world court model. The experiments on broadcast volleyball videos demonstrate efficient and effective results against a traditional object segmentation method (connected component analysis) and a supervised learning approach utilizing histogram of oriented gradient features.Item type:Item, Glitch Energy Reduction and SFDR Enhancement Techniques for Low-Power Binary-Weighted Current-Steering DAC(2016-06) ;Chou, Fang-Ting ;Hung, Chung-Chih ;電機學院College of Electrical and Computer EngineeringThis brief proposes a glitch reduction approach by dynamic capacitance compensation of binary-weighted current switches in a current-steering digital-to-analog converter (DAC). The method was proved successfully by a 10-bit 400-MHz pure binary-weighted current-steering DAC with a minimum number of retiming latches. The experiment results yield very low-glitch energy during major carry transitions at output, which is <1 pVs. This brief utilizes a layout structure to improve the spurious-free dynamic range at high signal frequencies. This chip was implemented in a standard 0.18-mu m CMOS technology and consumes 20.7 mW at 400 MS/s.Item type:Item, A numerical study of forming voltage and switching polarity dependence on Ti top electrode thickness in Zr RRAM(2016-06) ;Berco, Dan ;Tseng, Tseung-Yuen ;電子工程學系及電子研究所Department of Electronics Engineering and Institute of ElectronicsThe authors investigate the conduction filament (CF) formation voltage and reset polarity dependence of a Ti/Zr/Pt resistive switching memory device on the Ti top electrode (TE) thickness by means of numerical simulation. A calculation method which accounts for both the initial statistical nature of the resistive switching layer (RSL) and the interaction of oxygen vacancies with oxygen species (O) on the overall conductance is used. The results show a correlation between the TE thickness and the density profile of O species both along the RSL-TE interface and within the TE, and indentify the causes for the previously observed not yet fully comprehended TE thickness dependent functionality of this device. The authors demonstrate that accumulation and reduction of O, during forming, result in a charged interfacial layer which decreases the effective oxide thickness and determines the forming voltage and switching polarity. In addition, local temperature profiles within the CF during forming promote O diffusion into the TE material which reduces the local conductivity and affects the forming voltage magnitude as well. In addition the authors provide forming and reset calculations for TE thicknesses of 5, 20 and 40 nm which are in good agreement with published experimental data.Item type:Item, A 1.3-2.08 GHz Filtering Power Divider With Bandwidth Control and High In-Band Isolation(2016-06) ;Chi, Pei-Ling ;Yang, Tao ;電機學院College of Electrical and Computer EngineeringThis letter proposes a varactor-based filtering power divider that allows for reconfigurable operating frequency and bandwidth with high in-band isolation. A simple but effective tuning scheme was used to attain good impedance matching and isolation for all tunable states. Experimental results show that, for input return loss > 16.6 dB, the center frequency and 1 dB constant absolute bandwidth can be tuned from 1.3 to 2.08 GHz and from 70 to 130MHz, respectively. Moreover, this work demonstrates > 26 dB output isolation, < +/- 0.23 dB magnitude imbalance, and < +/- 1.3 degrees phase imbalance. Measured and simulated results are in good agreement.Item type:Item, Fatigue induced deformation and thermodynamics evolution in a nano particle strengthened nickel base superalloy(2016-06) ;Huang, E-W. ;Chang, C. -K. ;Liaw, P. K. ;Suei, T. -R.材料科學與工程學系In-situ neutron-diffraction and temperature measurements were simultaneously applied to investigate low-cycle-fatigue behaviour of a nano-precipitate strengthened nickel-based superalloy. Two transitions in the temperature-evolution are observed subjected to cyclic loading. Two models are compared with the measured temperature evolution. One is based on bulk stress, and the other is based on lattice-strain evolution. The calculated thermoelastic responses in both models qualitatively agree with the measured bulk-temperature evolution for the first transition. The in-situ neutron-diffraction results reveal that the first transition is associated with the cyclic hardening/softening dislocation-structural transformation. However, the second transition, which is observed at larger number of fatigue cycles during the steady cycles, does not correlate with the dislocation evolution. A phenomenological model is applied to describe the second temperature-transition stages. The energy dissipation evolutions in the second fatigue stage indicate the initiation and the growth activities of fatigue microcrack. The data reported here may be useful for cohesive zone model.Item type:Item, Diode-Pumped Nd:YAP Intracavity Optical Parametric Oscillator Emitting at 1603 nm: Influence of Energy-Transfer Upconversion(2016-06-01) ;Cho, H. H. ;Huang, Y. J. ;Chen, W. D. ;Zhang, G.Chen, Y. F.A diode-end-pumped actively Q-switched Nd:YAP laser at 1080 nm is originally designed to intracavity pump a Potassium Titanyl Phosphate KTiOPO4 (KTP)-based optical parametric oscillator for obtaining the signal wavelength at 1603 nm. Under an absorbed pump power value of 11 W, the maximum average output power at the eye-safe radiation is efficiently generated to be 1.11 W at a pulse repetition rate of 10 kHz. At a pulse repetition rate of 5 kHz, the shortest pulse duration, the largest pulse energy, and the highest peak power are found to be 2.4 ns, 190 mu J, and 67.3 kW, respectively. In addition, the influence of energy-transfer upconversion effect on the capability of power scaling of the developed Nd: YAP fundamental laser is experimentally investigated and theoretically analyzed.Item type:Item, The relevance of communication media in conflict contexts and their effectiveness: A negotiation experiment(2016-06) ;Chen, I-Shuo ;Tseng, Fang-Tai ;經營管理研究所Institute of Business and ManagementConflict negotiation is a communication process in which participants exchange huge amounts of cognitive and emotional information interactively to achieve a mutually acceptable solution regarding previous inconsistency. The present paper approaches this issue from the perspective of intervention in emotional negotiation by examining the moderating effect of communication media on the relationships between conflict contexts and their effectiveness. Given the different effectiveness of emotional delivery between face-to-face communication and computer-mediated communication, we hypothesize that the choice of communication media will ultimately affect negotiation effectiveness. A negotiation experiment was designed to test our research hypotheses. We find that face-to-face communication functions effectively in the functional conflict context, whereas computer-mediated communication functions effectively in dysfunctional conflict context. M. ;交大名義發表National Chiao Tung UniversityElectrical impedance tomography (EIT) is a non-invasive imaging technique. The main task of this work is to solve a non-linear inverse problem, for which several techniques have been suggested, but none of which gives a very high degree of accuracy. This paper introduces a novel approach, based on radial basis function (RBF) artificial neural networks (ANNs), to solve this problem, and uses several ANNs to obtain the best solution to the EIT inverse problem. ANNs have the potential to directly estimate the solution of the inverse problem with a high degree of accuracy. While different radial basis neural networks do not always perform well on different problems, they usually give good results on some specific problems. This paper evidences a strong correlation between the area of the target and the spread constant of the RBF network that gives the best reconstruction. A solution to automatically estimate the size of the target and pick the best neural network directly from voltage measurements is presented, making the reconstruction process automatic. By automatically selecting the best ANN for each specific set of voltage measurements, the proposed solution gives a more accurate reconstruction of both small and large targets.Item type:Item, 「模聯」新起之秀-陽明模擬聯合國社簡介(國立陽明大學, 2016-06)周孟樵Item type:Item, Energy-Assisted Information Detection for Simultaneous Wireless Information and Power Transfer: Performance Analysis and Case Studies(2016-06-01) ;Chang, Chih-Hua ;Chang, Ronald Y. ;Chien, Feng-Tsun ;電子工程學系及電子研究所Department of Electronics Engineering and Institute of ElectronicsIn simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT), practical receiver architectures consisting of an information receiver and an energy harvester have been proposed in place of an ideal receiver capable of performing two tasks simultaneously using the same circuits. In this paper, we present a novel receiver architecture design incorporating an interplay between the information receiver and the energy harvester to enhance the performance of the practical SWIPT receiver. In particular, the energy level of the received signal monitored at the energy harvester is fed back to the information receiver to assist information decoding at the information receiver. The symbol-error-rate (SER) and diversity analyses show that the proposed receiver architecture could yield a higher diversity order for unconventional constellations where any two distinct symbols have distinct energy levels, and the same diversity order for conventional modulations. Simulation of PAM and QAM modulations verifies the analysis, shows the improved SER performance of the proposed receiver architecture, and illustrates the energy-dimension-augmented decision regions. Some insights into designing enhanced practical SWIPT receivers are provided as a result.Item type:Item, Travel and Activity Choices for Transit Travelers at Terminals with Dynamic Information Provision(2016-06) ;Hsu, Chaug-Ing ;Li, Chia-Wen ;運輸與物流管理系 註:原交通所+運管所 ;運輸研究中心Department of Transportation and Logistics ManagementThis study explores the impacts of providing dynamic information on travelers\' behavior and the induced demand for terminal-surrounding activities. A nested logit model was used to identify the important factors, and a questionnaire was designed to explore the preference of travelers regarding activities and travel choices. Adopting dynamic information was found to have a significant influence on travel decisions. The results show that an increased duration of activity participation may accompany an alteration of departure time or mode choice. The results also show that the use of dynamic information for travelers is related to induced activity participation and travelers\' socioeconomic characteristics. The content of the dynamic information should be designed in accordance with the preference of travelers to encourage travelers participating in terminal-surrounding activities.Item type:Item, The Classical Braess Paradox Problem Revisited: A Generalized Inverse Method on Non-Unique Path Flow Cases(2016-06) ;Hwang, Ming-Chorng ;Cho, Hsun-Jung ;運輸與物流管理系 註:原交通所+運管所 ;友訊交大聯合研發中心Department of Transportation and Logistics ManagementThe classical Braess paradox problem refers to a user-equilibrium assignment model which all started with Braess\'s (Unternehmensforschung 12; 258-268, 1968) demonstrated example network. Some variants of Braess paradox and related theories were subsequently developed to detect this paradoxical phenomenon on a general network. In this paper, the authors are devoted to the classical Braess paradox problem involving situations whenever considering new links to be added to a network. Historical literature told us that existing theories for this problem were limited to networks which admit unique path flow solution. A generalized inverse approach is suggested to solve this problem without the assumption of unique path flow solution in this study. The change of equilibrium cost after link additions is derived as a generalized inverse formulation of which solution possesses the non-uniqueness and flow conservation over all perturbed paths. Based on this generalized inverse formulation of the change of equilibrium cost, the authors show that there exists at least one of the O/D pairs, connected by new added routes, such that Braess paradox doesn\'t (does) occur if the proposed test matrix is positive (negative) semi-definite. The derivations extend existing theories towards the situations when multiple routes are arbitrarily generated after link additions. These new theories deliver prior information to foresee Braess paradox taking place on a class of transportation networks which is more general than before and never reached by existing studies on the indicated classical Braess paradox problem.Item type:Item, Optimizing a new cuffless blood pressure sensor via a solid-fluid-electric finite element model with consideration of varied mis-positionings(2016-06) ;Kao, Yung-Hua ;Tu, Tse-Yi ;Chao, Paul C. -P. ;Lee, Yung-PinWey, Chin-LongThe sizes of a newly-developed non-invasive, cuffless blood pressure sensor are successfully optimized for maximizing its output signal quality. The optimization is conducted via establishing a coupled solid-fluid-electric model and considering varied mis-positionings. The non-invasive, cuffless blood pressure sensor consists of a gel-capsule and a strain sensor in a number of parallel electrodes. Towards sensing blood pressure, the BP sensor is designed to sense the vibration of radial artery by converting the deformation of the sensor electrodes to electrical signals. In practical uses, it is inevitable that the sensor is not placed right on the location where maximum vibration of the artery occurs, thus undermining the signal quality of the sensor output signals for accurate BP estimates. This study is dedicated to optimize the sizes of sensor electrodes with a required level of robustness to be able to obtain quality signals with presence of reasonable mis-positionings. The optimization is made possible by first establishing a coupled fluid-mechanics-electric model to predict sensor output due to dynamic artery dilations, and then the sizes of sensor electrodes are successfully optimized for maximum sensor outputs with consideration of reasonable mis-positionings. The range of sensor mis-positions considered is between -5 and +5 mm to cover all possible users in different heights, weights, ages, genders, etc. The optimal electrode length of the sensor is found to be 7 mm, while the accuracy of the predicted pressure levels are within +/- 7 mmHg, which conforms to the required accuracy of +/- 8 mmHg by The Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI).Item type:Item, On the influence of spread constant in radial basis networks for electrical impedance tomography(2016-06) ;Martin, Sebastien ;Choi, Charles T. R. ;Yang, Judy P. ;Yang, Y. B. ;土木工程學系Department of Civil EngineeringBased on force equilibrium and rigid body considerations, a novel approach is proposed for deriving the state equations and then the buckling equations of pretwisted spatially curved beams. Based on statical consideration of an infinitesimal element from the last calculated configuration C-1 to the current configuration C-2, a set of condition equations for the state matrix is derived. Next, by enforcing the rigid body rule for the beam, another set of condition equations for the state matrix is derived. From these two sets of equations, the state matrix of the beam is derived that leads directly to the buckling differential equations. The merit of the proposed approach is that it only requires simple differential and matrix operations. No hidden errors are possible because no higher-order terms need to be treated. In addition, a direct link is established between the straight and curved beam theories. Finally, examples are provided to demonstrate the application of the theory to the buckling analysis of various curved beams, including the helical ones. Item type:Item, Multi-Decadal Monitoring of Lake Level Changes in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau by the TOPEX/Poseidon-Family Altimeters: Climate Implication(2016-06-01) ;Hwang, Cheinway ;Cheng, Yung-Sheng ;Han, Jiancheng ;Kao, RickyHuang, Chi-YunLake levels in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (QTP) provide valuable records for climate change studies. We use two decades of measurements (January 1993-December 2014) from the TOPEX/Poseidon (T/P)-family satellite altimeters (T/P, Jason-1 and -2) to detect lake level variations at 23 lakes along their repeat ground tracks every 10 days. We employ an optimal processing technique to obtain quality measurements, including outlier detection, averaging and filtering. The lake level accuracies are improved by subwaveform retracking. Jason-1 delivers few measurements after waveform retracking and a cluster classification at most lakes. From January 1993 to December 2014, most lake levels in eastern Tibet rose, while those in western Tibet declined. In Qinghai, lake levels dropped before 2005 and then rose afterwards, coinciding with the measure in 2005 that protects the Qinghai ecosystem (e.g., grassland conservation). The overall pattern of lake level change in the QTP is largely affected by monsoons and lake locations. Most lake levels show clear annual and inter-annual oscillations. Certain lakes show alternating level highs and lows in the same seasons and varying amplitudes of annual oscillations due to lake level changes. We detect a sudden rise of lake level by 7 m caused by floods, varying lake level trends associated with the 199798 El Nino and other factors, and persistently rising and declining lake levels associated with the long-term precipitation trends in the QTP. The T/P-family satellites will continue to monitor lake levels here as long as the sea level monitoring program lasts, collecting a long-term climate record at highlands echoing sea level change.Item type:Item, A Current Index Approach to Compensate Commutation Phase Error for Sensorless Brushless DC Motors With Nonideal Back EMF(2016-06-01) ;Lee, An-Chen ;Wang, Samuel ;Fan, Chia-Juei ;機械工程學系Department of Mechanical EngineeringCommutation phase errors during implementation are inevitable in the sensorless drive of the brushless dc (BLDC) motor. This paper analyzed the current waveform during the conducting phase under commutation phase error and nonideal back electromotive force (EMF). The relation between the elapsed time of the commutation phase error with the current waveform, the supplied voltage, and the nonideal back-EMF is derived. Based on this relationship, a reliable optimization method for commutation phase errors compensation is presented. Such method is to minimize the elapsed time of the commutation phase error with robustness properties with respect to parameter variations. In such a way, the peak values of the current at the front and back of the current waveform at each conducting period become more identical, which leads to minimum torque ripple. A digital signal processor-based sensorless BLDC motor controller to implement the proposed method is developed to verify its effectiveness experimentally. Experiment results showed that the proposed sensorless drive is capable of running in different speed and load torque with good performance.Item type:Item, Optimization of Guard Ring Structures to Improve Latchup Immunity in an 18 V DDDMOS Process(2016-06) ;Dai, Chia-Tsen ;Ker, Ming-Dou ;電子工程學系及電子研究所Department of Electronics Engineering and Institute of ElectronicsThe optimization of guard ring structures to improve latchup immunity in an 18 V double-diffused drain MOS (DDDMOS) process with the DDDMOS transistors has together been investigated in a silicon test chip. The layout parameters including the anode-to-cathode spacing and the guard ring width are also studied to seek their impacts on latchup immunity. The measurement results demonstrated that the test devices isolated with the specific guard ring structure of n-buried layer can highly improve the latchup immunity. The suggested guard ring structures can be applied to the high-voltage circuits in this 18 V DDDMOS process to meet the new Joint Electron Device Engineering Council standard (JESD78D) with the trigger current of over +/- 200 mA.Item type:Item, Extending the Lifetime of Dynamic Underwater Acoustic Sensor Networks Using Multi-Population Harmony Search Algorithm(2016-06-01) ;Lin, Chun-Cheng ;Deng, Der-Jiunn ;Wang, Shang-Bin ;工業工程與管理學系Department of Industrial Engineering and ManagementLike wireless sensor networks, lifetime of sensors is the main constraint for performance of underwater acoustic sensor networks (UASNs). Most previous works on UASNs did not consider dynamics of networks, i.e., as time goes by, in practice, part of sensors may be malfunctioned, deplete their battery power, or get lost due to violent underwater environment changes. Therefore, this paper considers a UASN in ocean and proposes a sleep scheduling scheme in which sensor nodes and autonomous underwater vehicles in this network can dynamically choose to sleep or work to adapt to the environmental change. The concerned problem is to dynamically determine a sufficient number of active nodes in the UASN at different times, such that the targets required to be detected are covered. A special static scenario of the problem has been shown to be NP-complete. Hence, this paper proposes an improved multi-population harmony search algorithm to solve this dynamic problem. By simulation, the proposed algorithm shows high performance in terms of extending network lifetime, robustness, and computing time.
