Item type:Item, An iterative expanding and shrinking process for processor allocation in mixed-parallel workflow scheduling(2016-07-20) ;Huang, Kuo-Chan ;Wu, Wei-Ya ;Wang, Feng-Jian ;Liu, Hsiao-ChingHung, Chun-HaoParallel computation has been widely applied in a variety of large-scale scientific and engineering applications. Many studies indicate that exploiting both task and data parallelisms, i.e. mixed-parallel workflows, to solve large computational problems can get better efficacy compared with either pure task parallelism or pure data parallelism. Scheduling traditional workflows of pure task parallelism on parallel systems has long been known to be an NP-complete problem. Mixed-parallel workflow scheduling has to deal with an additional challenging issue of processor allocation. In this paper, we explore the processor allocation issue in scheduling mixed-parallel workflows of moldable tasks, called M-task, and propose an Iterative Allocation Expanding and Shrinking (IAES) approach. Compared to previous approaches, our IAES has two distinguishing features. The first is allocating more processors to the tasks on allocated critical paths for effectively reducing the makespan of workflow execution. The second is allowing the processor allocation of an M-task to shrink during the iterative procedure, resulting in a more flexible and effective process for finding better allocation. The proposed IAES approach has been evaluated with a series of simulation experiments and compared to several well-known previous methods, including CPR, CPA, MCPA, and MCPA2. The experimental results indicate that our IAES approach outperforms those previous methods significantly in most situations, especially when nodes of the same layer in a workflow might have unequal workloads.Item type:Item, The applicability of marginal abatement cost approach: A comprehensive review(2016-07-20) ;Huang, Shihping Kevin ;Kuo, Lopin ;Chou, Kuei-Lan ;科技管理研究所Institute of Management of TechnologyThe Marginal Abatement Cost (MAC) methodology is widely used in climate change policies. Policy makers rely on MAC to assess feasible strategies and related costs to achieve emission reduction goals. This paper introduces a variety of MAC methodologies, aiming at solving diverse problems, which utilizes various calculable-logic, thus producing different results and implications. This study applies a mind mapping method to capture differentiation of MAC methods, and systematically classify MAC methodologies. The applicability path analysis was proposed, based on principles such as stakeholder type, decision-making objectives, cost concept, strategy mode and information scope. Our goal is to assess the applicability of different methodologies, to reduce misuse by policy-makers, and to serve as a guide for subsequent research, which might prompt and lead to the derivation of more consequential results in future studies. The results of this study suggest that the complex method is not always better than the simplified method because policy-makers are required to select the appropriate method according to the type of information needed. It may even be suggested that MAC could be reliable by ranking relative-value of options compared with baseline, rather than focusing on the absolute value of individual measures. Influence of the double channel layers on the electrical performance and thermal stability of the devices were investigated. It is found that a-IZO/IZON-TFTs have high field effect mobility of 23.26 cm(2)/(V.s) and more positively shifted threshold voltage than that of a-IZO-TFTs. This is ascribed to the doped nitrogen which can help reduce oxygen vacancy in the channel layer, suppress carrier concentration and make the devices have a better threshold voltage. Meanwhile, employing a-IZO thin film can avoid the sharp drop of field effect mobility and drain on current caused by nitrogen doping on a-IZON layer, leading to promoting I-on/I-off ratio effectively. Besides, according to the transfer characteristics measured at temperatures from 298 K to 423 K, devices with a-IZO/IZON double layers have superior performance and thermal stability to TFTs of single channel layer, which can be ascribed to the protective effect of a-IZON thin film on the channel layers. The doped nitrogen can reduce the adsorption/desorption reaction of oxygen molecules on the back channel layer, leading to a significant improvement on thermal stability of the devices.Item type:Item, 交大e-News第213期-交大、IBM攜手合作 「eWant育網」平台共育資料科學家人才(2016-07-20) ;國立交通大學秘書室SecretariatItem type:Item, Anion receptors based on 4-nitrophenylhydrazone(2016-07-20) ;Jo, Jaeyoung ;Putikam, Raghunath ;Lin, M. C. ;Kang, Jongmin應用化學系We have designed and synthesized new chromogenic anion receptors 1 and 2, which utilized 4-nitrophenylhydrazone as anion recognition moiety. UV-vis and H-1 NMR titration showed that receptors 1 and 2 bound anions utilizing two hydrazone N-H hydrogen bond and two C-H hydrogen bond. Despite the weak hydrogen bonding abilities of binding motifs, receptor 1 showed affinities for dihydrogen phosphate and acetate and receptor 2 showed relatively strong affinities for dihydrogen phosphate in polar solvent such as 5% DMSO in CH3CN. These molecules provide an opportunity to examine in-depth the impact of side-chain variations (methyl vs p-tolyl) on the crystallization behaviors, solid-state morphology, physical properties, and optoelectronic characteristics relevant for practical applications. X-ray analyses on single-crystal structures indicate that methyl-substituted MIDTP forms coplanar antiparallel dimers via C-H center dot center dot center dot S interactions and organizes into an ordered slip-staircase arrays. In contrast, p-tolyl-bearing TIDTP shows cofacial centrosymmetric dimers via pi-pi interactions and packs into a less-ordered layered structures. The X-ray diffraction analyses upon thermal treatment are consistent with a superior crystallinity of MIDTP, as compared to that of TIDTP. This difference indicates a greater propensity to organization by introduction of the smaller methyl group versus the bulkier p-tolyl group. The increased propensity for order by MIDTP facilitates the crystallization of MIDTP in both solution-processed and vacuum-deposited thin films. MIDTP forms solution-processed single-crystal arrays that deliver OFET hole mobility of 6.56 x 10(-4) cm(2) V-1 s(-1), whereas TIDTP only forms amorhpous films that gave lower hole mobility of 1.34 x 10(-5) cm(2) V-1 s(-1). MIDTP and TIDTP were utilized to serve as donors together with C-70 as acceptor in the fabrication of small-molecule organic solar cells (SMOSCs) with planar heterojunction (PHJ) or planar-mixed heterojunction (PMHJ) device architectures. OPV devices based on higher crystalline MIDTP delivered power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) of 2.5% and 4.3% for PHJ and PMHJ device, respectively, which are higher than those of TIDTP-based cells. The improved PCEs of MIDTP-based devices are attributed to better hole-transport character.Item type:Item, Conformational Preferences and the Phase Stability of Fullerene Hexa-adducts(2016-07-20) ;Wu, San-Lien ;Hong, Chen-Yang ;Wu, Kuan-Yi ;Lan, Shih-TingHsieh, Chou-TingMolecular conformation and the assembly structure determine the spatial arrangements of the constituent units and the functions of a molecule. Although, fullerene hexa-adducts (FHAs) have been known as functional materials with great versatility, their conformational preferences and phase stability remain a complicate issue. By choosing bithiophene (T-2) and dodecyl bithiophene (C12T2) as the peripheral units of FHA, and using microscopic, scattering and diffraction characterizations, our study reveals how the intramolecular interaction and environmental stimulus affects the conformational preferences and phase stability of FHAs.Item type:Item, Stark Spectroscopy of Rubrene. II. Stark Fluorescence Spectroscopy and Fluorescence Quenching Induced by an External Electric Field(2016-07-21) ;Iimori, Toshifumi ;Ito, Ryuichi ;Ohta, Nobuhiro ;應用化學系應用化學系分子科學碩博班We report Stark fluorescence spectroscopy investigation of rubrene dispersed in a poly(methyl methacrylate) film. The features of the fluorescence spectrum are analogous to those in solutions. In the Stark fluorescence spectrum, the decrease of the fluorescence quantum yield in the presence of an external electric field is observed. This result shows that the yield of nonradiative decay processes is increased by the application of an external electric field. It is known that the fluorescence quantum yield for rubrene, which is nearly unity at room temperature, depends on temperature, and a major nonradiative decay process in photoexcited rubrene is ascribed to a thermally activated intersystem crossing (ISC). Equations that express the field-induced fluorescence quenching in terms of the molecular parameters are derived from the ensemble average of electric field effects on the activation energy of the reaction rate constant in random orientation systems. The molecular parameters are then extracted from the observed data. It is inferred that the field-induced increase in the yield of other intramolecular and intermolecular photophysical processes in addition to the ISC should be taken into account.Item type:Item, Prominent role of oxygen in the multiferroicity of DyMnO3 and TbMnO3: A resonant soft x-ray scattering spectroscopy study(2016-07-21) ;Huang, S. W. ;Lee, J. M. ;Jeng, Horng-Tay ;Shao, YuChengWray, L. AndrewOxygen is known to play an important role in the multiferroicity of rare earth manganites; however, how this role changes with rare earth elements is still not fully understood. To address this question, we have used resonant soft x-ray scattering spectroscopy to study the F-type (0, tau, 0) diffraction peak from the antiferromagnetic order in DyMnO3 and TbMnO3. We focus on the measurements at O K edge of these two manganites, supplemented by the results at Mn L-2 and Dy M-5 edge of DyMnO3. We show that the electronic states of different elements are coupled more strongly in DyMnO3 than in TbMnO3, presumably due to the stronger lattice distortion and the tendency to develop E-type antiferromagnetism in the ferroelectric state that promote the orbital hybridization. We also show that the anomaly in the correlation length of (0, tau, 0) peak in DyMnO3 signifies the exchange interaction between Mn and rare earth spins. Our findings reveal the prominent role of oxygen orbitals in the multiferroicity of rare earth manganites and the distinct energetics between them.Item type:Item, Dual Strong Couplings Between TPPS J-Aggregates and Aluminum Plasmonic States(2016-07-21) ;Li, Jie ;Ueno, Kosei ;Uehara, Hiyori ;Guo, JingchunOshikiri, TomoyaWe report on the spectral properties of strong coupling between the localized surface plasmon resonances (LSPRs) of aluminum (Al) nanostructures and tetraphenylporphyrin tetrasulfonic acid hydrate (TPPS) J-aggregates. Because of their wide spectral range of LSPR bands from ultraviolet to near-infrared wavelengths by controlling structural size, Al nanodisks can realize strong coupling with different excitons of TPPS J-aggregates. The Rabi splitting energies of the excitons based on Soret and Qbands are 300 and 180 meV, respectively. In addition to extinction spectrum, we have also measured an excitation spectrum to determine the essential absorption of the hybrid states and successfully confirmed a shoulder peak corresponding to a lower branch of hybrid states. In Al nanorod systems, strong coupling with two excitons can also be selectively induced by merely rotating the polarization of the incident light, which constituted a simple platform for the dynamic control of exciton/plasmon coupling states.Item type:Item, Noninvasive, label-free, three-dimensional imaging of melanoma with confocal photothermal microscopy: Differentiate malignant melanoma from benign tumor tissue(2016-07-22) ;He, Jinping ;Wang, Nan ;Tsurui, Hiromichi ;Kato, MasashiIida, MachikoSkin cancer is one of the most common cancers. Melanoma accounts for less than 2% of skin cancer cases but causes a large majority of skin cancer deaths. Early detection of malignant melanoma remains the key factor in saving lives. However, the melanoma diagnosis is still clinically challenging. Here, we developed a confocal photothermal microscope for noninvasive, label-free, three-dimensional imaging of melanoma. The axial resolution of confocal photothermal microscope is similar to 3 times higher than that of commonly used photothermal microscope. Three-dimensional microscopic distribution of melanin in pigmented lesions of mouse skin is obtained directly with this setup. Classic morphometric and fractal analysis of sixteen 3D images (eight for benign melanoma and eight for malignant) showed a capability of pathology of melanoma: melanin density and size become larger during the melanoma growth, and the melanin distribution also becomes more chaotic and unregulated. The results suggested new options for monitoring the melanoma growth and also for the melanoma diagnosis.Item type:Item, ? 【選??】?1Item type:Item, Biomimic nickel thiolate catalyst with CdS nanomaterial for photocatalytic hydrogen production in aqueous phase(2016-07-25) ;Gliniak, Jacek ;交大名義發表National Chiao Tung UniversityItem type:Item, Synergy of using neutralized DNA on nanowire field effect transistor as next generation biosensor(2016-07-25) ;Chen, Wen-Yih ;Yang, Yuh-Shyong ;Chan, Hardy W. ;交大名義發表National Chiao Tung UniversityItem type:Item, Mobile-phone based visible light communication using region-grow light source tracking for unstable light source(2016-07-25) ;Liang, Kevin ;Chow, Chi-Wai ;Liu, Yang ;光電工程學系光電工程研究所In order to increase the data rate of the camera-based visible light communication (VLC) system, using rolling shutter effect has been demonstrated successfully, in which the pixel rows of the complementary-metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) image sensor are activated sequentially. Previous camera-based VLCs focused on using a stable LED light source, and its illumination area is positioned at the center of an image frame. In this work, we investigate the performance of a camera-based VLC with light source at different parts of an image frame. We propose and demonstrate using region-grow algorithm to track the light source. We also evaluate and discuss different scenarios when the light source is moved. Besides, a recorded > 5 kbit/s net data rate can be achieved by using only a single phosphor-based white-light LED source. Here, we demonstrate that 4.502 pixel/bit can be achieved. The resonance wavelength of a binary-grating metasurface is adjustable by changing the width and thickness of the nanostructure. We propose a novel combination of nematic liquid crystals and a binary-grating metasurface with which the diffraction efficiency can be controlled by adjusting the applied voltage.
