Item type:Item, Improved measurement of the reactor antineutrino flux and spectrum at Daya Bay(2017-01) ;An, F. P. ;Balantekin, A. B. ;Band, H. R. ;Bishai, M.Blyth, S.A new measurement of the reactor antineutrino flux and energy spectrum by the Daya Bay reactor neutrino experiment is reported. The antineutrinos were generated by six 2.9 GW(th) nuclear reactors and detected by eight antineutrino detectors deployed in two near (560 m and 600 m flux-weighted baselines) and one far (1640 m flux-weighted baseline) underground experimental halls. With 621 days of data, more than 1.2 million inverse beta decay (IBD) candidates were detected. The IBD yield in the eight detectors was measured, and the ratio of measured to predicted flux was found to be 0.946 +/- 0.020 (0.992 +/- 0.021) for the Huber+Mueller (ILL+Vogel) model. A 2.9 sigma deviation was found in the measured IBD positron energy spectrum compared to the predictions. In particular, an excess of events in the region of 4-6 MeV was found in the measured spectrum, with a local significance of 4.4 sigma. A reactor antineutrino spectrum weighted by the IBD cross section is extracted for model-independent predictions.Item type:Item, Design of light guide sleeve on hyperspectral imaging system for skin diagnosis(2017-01-01) ;Yan, Yung-Jhe ;Chang, Chao-Hsin ;Huang, Ting-Wei ;Chiang, Hou-ChiWu Jeng-FuA hyperspectral imaging system is proposed for early study of skin diagnosis. A stable and high hyperspectral image quality is important for analysis. Therefore, a light guide sleeve (LGS) was designed for the embedded on a hyperspectral imaging system. It provides a uniform light source on the object plane with the determined distance. Furthermore, it can shield the ambient light from entering the system and increasing noise. For the purpose of producing a uniform light source, the LGS device was designed in the symmetrical double-layered structure. It has light cut structures to adjust distribution of rays between two layers and has the Lambertian surface in the front-end to promote output uniformity. In the simulation of the design, the uniformity of illuminance was about 91.7%. In the measurement of the actual light guide sleeve, the uniformity of illuminance was about 92.5%.Item type:Item, On Finding Socially Tenuous Groups for Online Social Networks(2017-01-01) ;Shen, Chih-Ya ;Huang, Liang-Hao ;Yang, De-Nian ;Shuai, Hong-HanLee, Wang-ChienExisting research on finding social groups mostly focuses on dense subgraphs in social networks. However, finding socially tenuous groups also has many important applications. In this paper, we introduce the notion of k-triangles to measure the tenuity of a group. We then formulate a new research problem, Minimum k-Triangle Disconnected Group (MkTG), to find a socially tenuous group from online social networks. We prove that MkTG is NP-Hard and inapproximable within any ratio in arbitrary graphs but polynomial-time tractable in threshold graphs. Two algorithms, namely TERA and TERA-ADV, are designed to exploit graph theoretical approaches for solving MkTG on general graphs effectively and efficiently. Experimental results on seven real datasets manifest that the proposed algorithms outperform existing approaches in both efficiency and solution quality.Item type:Item, Elastin-like Polypeptide-based Hydrogel Actuator for Cardiac Tissue Engineering(2017-01-01) ;Lo, Yu-Chih ;Chiang, Min-Yu ;Chen, Wen-Liang ;Chen, San-Yuan材料科學與工程學系Cardiac tissue engineering aims to reconstruct functional construction with resembling native tissue to replace damaged myocardium. To mimic native myocardium, cells with phenotypes of mature cardiomyocytes and scaffolds with elastic, electro-conductive, highly porous, and biodegradable plays two major roles. So far, although a number of cell types have been evaluated in the reports of cardiac repair, most of them cannot form functional cardiomyocytes with mature cardiac phenotypes including the formation of the myocytic syncytium with surrounding cardiomyocytes, and expression of cardiac specific proteins in completely organized pattern. The maturation of cardiomyocytes can be achieved by multiple stimuli such as electrical stimulation, mechanical stretching, and chemical stimulation. Therefore, in this study, we aimed to develop a conductive hydrogel actuator based on elastin-like polypeptide (ELP) consisting of repeating elastin-derived sequences Val-Pro-Gly-Ile-Gly (VPGIG), combining near-infrared light (NIR)-induced mechanical stretching and electrical stimulation for the simulation of immature cardiomyocytes. The hydrogel actuator can be fabricated by rapidly crosslinking by tetrakis(hydroxymethyl) phosphonium chloride (THPC) to form a high density porous structure, providing cardiac muscle cell an extracellular matrix (ECM)-like nanostructure with bioactive Arg-Gly-Asp (RGD) peptide. It showed appropriate mechanical strength and sufficient electroactivity, which is suitable for myocardial cell culture system. In addition, the actuation leads a specific and efficient way to regulate activity in cardiac muscle cell by physical cue of the hydrogel. In the future, we expect the ELP-baesd hydrogel actuator to show great potential to be used in the differentiation and maturation of cardiomyocytes.Item type:Item, The Planar Thermophotovoltaic Selective Nearly-Perfect Absorbers/Emitters(2017-01-01) ;Parashar, Parag ;Jian, Ding-Rung ;Huang, Weiming ;Huang, Yi-WenLin, AlbertThe spectral response of thermophotovoltaic (TPV) absorber is a key factor for TPV system efficiency. We have shown that the planar TPV emitters can be realized by using thin-metal-dielectric stacking (IEEE Photonics J. 8, 1300109, 2016). In this paper, we provide a new structure composed of alternating dielectric and deep-sub-skin-depth (DSSD) metal layers for TPV selective absorbers. The RCWA calculation and the Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) measurement of tantalum (Ta) based planar absorber shows a high absorbance below the cut-off wavelength (lambdalambda c).Item type:Item, Parallel and Local Diagnostic Algorithm for Wireless Sensor Networks(2017-01-01) ;Wang, Lidan ;Zhang, Xiaofei ;Tseng, Yu-Chee ;Lin, Cheng-Kuan資訊工程學系In wireless sensor networks (WSNs), the sensing data of nodes have spatial similarity, so the network fault diagnosis can be done by comparing the data of neighbor nodes. When sending data, the node may send erroneous data because of the interference of the signal, thereby affecting the diagnostic accuracy of the network. This paper presents a parallel and local diagnostic algorithm (PLD) for WSN. In order to avoid the problem of signal collision, this paper constructs a special diagnosis structure, which effectively avoids the influence of signal collision on node diagnosis. The algorithm can be divided into three parts: generate the candidate sub-node set, establish the fault diagnosis structure and the diagnostic test. Diagnostic test contains four rounds. The first three rounds quickly compare perceived data of adjacent nodes in parallel, greatly reduces the time of diagnosis. In the fourth round, the most reliable node is tested with the first three rounds. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can guarantee higher diagnostic accuracy.Item type:Item, 33 similar to 50GHz CMOS Receiver with Wideband RF, IF and LO Chain(2017-01-01) ;Huang, Ching-Ying ;Wu, Kung-Long ;Hu, Robert ;Chang, Chi-Yang電子工程學系及電子研究所This manuscript describes the Q-band 90nmCMOS receiver design where the 33 similar to 50GHz RF-LNA, actively-biased double-balanced mixer, 10GHz IF amplifier, wideband frequency tripler and power amplifier in the LO chain are all integrated into one single chip. With overall power consumption of 170mW under 1.2V bias, the measured conversion gain is 15dB, noise figure close to 8dB, inputreferred P1dB around -30dBm, and the LO-IF port isolation is more than 60dB. Therefore, it can be easily driven by an external 11 similar to 16GHz signal source and used in applications such as next-generation broadband mobile communications where several specific Q-band frequency points have been considered. However, contrary to most receiver designs where the optimization is carried out over a relatively narrow bandwidth, here the main challenge lies in how to effectively extend the RF, IF, and LO bandwidth simultaneously without rendering performance deterioration. By possessing such broadband RF, IF, and LO characteristics, this Q-band circuit is also eligible for use in radio-astronomical, atmospheric, and other scientific instrumentations.Item type:Item, One-pot synthesis of benzazoles and quinazolinones via iron pentacarbonyl mediated carbonylation of aryl iodides under microwave irradiation(2017) ;Lin, Wun-Huei ;Wu, Wen-Chun ;Selvaraju, Manikandan ;Sun, Chung-Ming應用化學系A direct and unconventional method for the synthesis of benzazoles and quinazolinones is discovered by using iron pentacarbonyl as a reducing agent and a carbon monoxide source under microwave irradiation. WongItem type:Item, Performance Evaluation of Pass-Transistor-Based Circuits using Monolayer and Bilayer 2-D Transition Metal Dichalcogenide (TMD) MOSFETs for 5.9nm Node(2017-01-01) ;Yu, Chang-Hung ;Zheng, Jun-Teng ;Su, Pin ;Chuang, Ching-Te電子工程學系及電子研究所We comprehensively evaluate and benchmark the performance of pass-transistor logic (PTL) circuits using monolayer and bilayer transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) devices based on ITRS 2028 node. Our study indicates that the higher V-T of bilayer TMD devices significantly degrades the performance of single pass-transistor based circuits compared with the monolayer counterparts despite the higher mobility of bilayer TMD devices. The effect can be mitigated by using full transmission gate or providing a complementary path.Item type:Item, Editorial(2017-01-01) ;Wu, I-Chen ;資訊工程學系Department of Computer ScienceItem type:Item, Energy-Efficient Dynamic Point Selection for Cloud Radio Access Networks (C-RAN)(2017-01-01) ;Hsu, Ching-Kuo ;Liang, Jia-Ming ;Wu, Kun-Ru ;Chen, Jen-JeeTseng, Yu-CheeCloud-RAN (C-RAN) is a promising network architecture for next-generation wireless communications. C-RAN separates computation entities, i. e., Baseband Units (BBUs) from base stations (BSs), and puts BBUs in a cloud located at a centralized network. With C-RAN, user equipments (UEs) can receive data from multiple collaborative cells and thus can leverage the dynamic point selection (DPS) technology to improve network efficiency. To save the energy of UEs, 3GPP LTE-A has defined the Discontinuous Reception (DRX) mechanism to allow UEs to turn off their radio interfaces and go to sleep in a periodical manner. However, how to cooperate DRX with DPS under the C-RAN architecture is still an open issue. Therefore, this paper addresses the resource allocation problem in C-RAN by asking how to optimize the energy conservation of UEs based on DRX while reserving sufficient bandwidths for UEs considering their quality-of-service (QoS) in C-RAN with DPS. To solve this problem, we propose an energy-efficient DPS scheduling scheme. The key idea of our scheme is to serve the UEs in the intersection of cells continuously and allocate resource tightly to avoid additional wake-up intervals. Extensive simulation results show that our scheme can serve more UEs while enhancing throughput and reducing their energy consumption as compared to the existing schemes.Item type:Item, Robot Trajectory Modification Using Human-Robot Force Interaction(2017-01-01) ;Liu, Hung-Shen ;Song, Kai-Tai ;資訊工程學系Department of Computer ScienceThis paper presents a method to teach a humanoid robot arm a new trajectory by using human-robot shared control. The robot trajectory is first taught by using the technique of programming by demonstration (PbD). If the environment changes for the learned trajectory, a user can intervene and modify the trajectory by using the proposed control method. We propose a method to modify part of the trajectory based on shared control to resolve this problem. During task execution, the user applies force to guide the robot arm and modify the trajectory in collaboration with the robot. Through shared control, control weights are adjusted respectively for human teaching and the robot automation.. Practical experiments have been carried out to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.Item type:Item, Variational Recurrent Neural Networks for Speech Separation(2017-01-01) ;Chien, Jen-Tzung ;Kuo, Kuan-Ting ;電機工程學系Department of Electrical and Computer EngineeringWe present a new stochastic learning machine for speech separation based on the variational recurrent neural network (VRNN). This VRNN is constructed from the perspectives of generative stochastic network and variational auto-encoder. The idea is to faithfully characterize the randomness of hidden state of a recurrent neural network through variational learning. The neural parameters under this latent variable model are estimated by maximizing the variational lower bound of log marginal likelihood. An inference network driven by the variational distribution is trained from a set of mixed signals and the associated source targets. A novel supervised VRNN is developed for speech separation. The proposed VRNN provides a stochastic point of view which accommodates the uncertainty in hidden states and facilitates the analysis of model construction. The masking function is further employed in network outputs for speech separation. The benefit of using VRNN is demonstrated by the experiments on monaural speech separation.Item type:Item, Channel Modification Engineering by Plasma Processing in Tin-Oxide Thin Film Transistor: Experimental Results and First-Principles Calculation(2017-01-01) ;Chiu, Y. C. ;Chen, P. C. ;Chang, S. L. ;Zheng, Z. W.Cheng, C. H.In this paper, we investigated the effects of oxygen plasma treatment on tin oxide (SnOx) thin film transistors (TFTs). By using oxygen plasma treatment on SnOx active channel layer, excess oxygen was incorporated to the channel layer and converted oxygen-deficient SnOx to oxygen-rich SnO2-x, which in turn causes the device operation from p-type to n-type. Tuning the different exposure time of oxygen plasma, the optimal TFT device exhibits n-type properties with an on/off current ratio of 2.6 x 10(4), a very high field-effect mobility of 89 cm(2) V-1 s(-1), and a threshold voltage of -0.95 V. Furthermore, the effects of oxygen plasma treatment on band structure, density of states and electron density difference of the SnOx channel layer were performed by the first-principles calculation using density functional theory. The results show that the oxygen plasma treatment approach has high potential for high-performance TFT applications. (C) 2017 The Electrochemical Society. The complexities involved in the subjective experience of pain make it difficult to obtain a quantitative assessment from the induced spatiotemporal patterns of brain activity of high dimensionality. Most previous studies have investigated the perception of pain by analyzing the amplitude or spatial patterns in the response of the brain to external stimulation. This study investigated the decoding of endogenous pain perceptions according to resting-state magnetoencephalographic (MEG) recordings. In our experiments, we applied a beamforming method to calculate the brain activity for every brain region and examined temporal and spectral features of brain activity for predicting the intensity of perceived pain in patients with primary dysmenorrhea undergoing menstrual pain. Our results show that the asymmetric index of sample entropy in the precuneus and the sample entropy in the left posterior cingulate gyrus were the most informative characteristics associated with the perception of menstrual pain. The correlation coefficient (p=0.64, p < 0.001) between the predicted and self-reported pain scores demonstrated the high prediction accuracy. In addition to the estimated brain activity, we were able to predict accurate pain scores directly from MEG channel signals (p=0.65, p < 0.001). These findings suggest the possibility of using the proposed model based on resting-state MEG to predict the perceived intensity of endogenous pain.Item type:Item, Shelves: A User-Defined Block Management Tool for Visual Programming Languages(2017-01-01) ;Hsu, Sheng-Yi ;Lou, Yuan-Fu ;Jung, Shing-Yun ;Sun, Chuen-Tsai交大名義發表Block editors such as the one used in Scratch are now found in many visual programming languages (VPLs). While considered user-friendly for non-programmers or program learners, they have at least three important display limitations: readability, program structure, and re-use. To address these issues we have developed block shelves, a formatting and organizing tool in support of user-defined VPL structures. Usability experiment results indicate that block shelves can significantly enhance block code navigation and searches, as well as project structure clarification. In the interest of improving project collaboration and code re-use, users can utilize the extensible markup language file format to export/import shelves, and thereby share block codes between projects. Features designed for shelves and the experiment findings are value for course design in project-based learning and future block editor interface improvements.Item type:Item, A NOVEL SELF-POWERED PIEZOELECTRIC THREE-AXIS MEMS MAGNETIC SENSOR(2017-01-01) ;Yeh, Po-Chen ;Duan, Hao ;Chung, Tien-Kan ;機械工程學系國際半導體學院This paper demonstrates a self-powered piezoelectric three-axis MEMS magnetic sensor. The sensor consists of a silicon diaphragm, a PZT thin film with Pt top and bottom electrodes, and two patterned Ni thick films. When three-axial magnetic fields are applied to the sensor, alternating magnetic forces/torques are induced in two Ni films and consequently corresponding deformation/bending are produced in the diaphragm structure. The deformation/bending of the diaphragm generate the strains in the PZT thin film and thus produce corresponding different piezoelectric voltage responses. The testing results show the sensor successfully senses three-axial magnetic fields and has a decent linearity in the range of 5-70 Gauss.Item type:Item, Novel Detection in V-band MIMO OFDM RoF Systems Using ADCs with Sub-Nyquist Sampling(2017-01-01) ;Huang, Yao-Lun ;Wei, Chia-Chien ;Lin, Chun-Ting ;Lin, Chi-Hsiang光電系統研究所A novel detection scheme in :MIMO-OFDM-RoF systems is proposed.
